shrugs I love the Naruto dub (Orochimaru's creepiness totally shines through), but I've also got most of the subs floating around harddrives.
I do the same thing with manga-read the scans to get ahead and then reread the official copies when they show up in my library. Comparing the translation differences is always fun, and Del Ray always adds some great translation notes.

laughs at my local B&N the employees have to kick people out of the manga section 'cause the floor is completely impassable.
I'd buy more manga 'cause it's perfect for a commute-1 volume lasts about a trip and it doesn't take up much space in my bag. But, that's 50 dollars a week on manga-which I think would be pushing it for anyone.

If you look at a single volume it might be an appropriate price considering the effort to draw and publish it.
However, if you are a big manga fan this will definitely add up to a ridiculous point.I'm currently reading 150 titles, have finished 40, and plus some unfinished ones, i've gone through more than 200 titles.
If I were to buy all that... 🤢
Something like 10000$?
200 titles i find this kind of hard to believe.

Well, to own 200 is not hard to believe at all. At least for me. My manga in English is over 340 books (just received 19 of it yesterday and 6 today; not included are 11 more that are still on the way to my country), read 80% of it and restrain myself as best as I can to read the long series until the last volume are published.
This is only a little chunk of my manga colletion. I have more than 8,000 books of local-licensed manga (my country has been in manga licensing business for 17 years already, and the price when converted into US$ is only about US$2-3 per book). I think I read half of it, but I buy almost everything my eyes lay on. My collection that I don't really read are the ones in Chinese, 1,800something books. As well as the Japanese, 500something. Only picture reading it, and if I'm lucky I could find scanlations of the same books to help me trully reading it. Or, buy the same title. I can't read either Chinese nor Japanese, unfortunately.
I don't count what I have in my harddisk and CD-s, as those aren't included in my book collection, but I count my dj in Japanese.
No, I'm not a filthy rich, I am just a single middle age woman who has no life and don't have any interest or hobby other than manga in life. So, there goes everything that I earn.

Yep yep, at last count I think I had 300-400 manga. Now that's for myself & my boys all together (I have some they don't read, they have some I don't read, some all three of us read) and some of it is in Japanese but most are English. (I'm trying to learn Japanese, but so far can only read bits & pieces. 😔 ) That's not counting manga I've bought, read, and then sold on eBay because I have no idea how many volumes I've done that with. 🤣 If I had the money, I would buy a LOT more, but as it is I have to wait for sales, coupons, look for it used, etc. My budget is very limited; manga is my one real indulgence~
In HS I had over 1000 books in my room (some of which I still have, but most I don't), so I've actually cut down a lot. 😛

I ment the number of manga titles i'm currently reading on my computer, and i think Disaro ment it too. 200 books is indeed nothing, 4xOnePiece and you have that amount.

In my honest opinion, Mangas are not that expensive if you know where to buy them.
I live in Canada, and at Chapters, mangas usually cost 12-15 canadian dollars. I refuse to buy manga from there though because when you add tax, it becomes too pricey.
Thus, I normally buy my mangas at anime/manga speciality stores. They have huge selection, plus they normally sell their mangas at american pricing which are at 7 - 11 dollars.
Cosidering that a normal novel/hardcover books range from 20 to 50 dollars...I say Mangas are not that pricey at all.
(I know this because I collect normal books too! 😛 )

I myself think manga (at least in the US) is moderately priced. I think people may think manga is expensive because it seems like a perpetual cost when you are following a lengthy and popular series. As long as a volume comes out, your money will go there. I'm still planning for the time when I can buy the whole Hana Kimi series >.<

10$ per volume is a fair price for all the work the company does (translating, cleaning the text, replacing, etc. etc.)

My girlfriend is convinced that I've put off getting married because I spend so much on manga that I don't have enough for the engagement ring. The sad thing is that she has every reason to believe it.
Manga costs for April 2008 (to date, including shipping, not including website fees): $289
And personally, I think that anything over 6 or 7 for a standard volume (no color inserts or the like) is highway robbery. It doesn't cost the English company as much to translate and edit the book than it does for the Japanese company to make it in the first place, so why is it more expensive over here?

It IS expensive when you live in another country and have to order online to buy. I bought $16 per volume of Merupuri and it just saddens me that my wallet is flying away to lala land. Though the Japanese raws are cheaper, it's still expensive if you add the shipping fee.
But if it supports the publishers and mangakas, I don't mind really. It's not as if I'm buying everyday.
