Japanese curry is another favorite...and please don't tell me "curry is Indian", Japanese curry is significantly different from Indian. It may not be a traditional Japanese food, but it is Japanese.

A Japanese version of a foreign dish doesn't automatically make it "Japanese food." If that's the case, then I could say my favorite food is the good old Japanese hamburger or the Japanese pizza. You have to realize that almost every country will tweak ethnic foods to match the tastes of its people. For example, sushi in California tastes different from sushi in Tokyo. Does that mean sushi is now an American food? Of course not.

If you specify that you like Japanese hamburgers or pizza, and they're significantly different than the way hamburgers or pizza are served in other countries, then I would definitely consider it a (non-traditional) Japanese food.

I would say that, yes, sushi as served in California is indeed an American food if it is significantly different from sushi served in Japan. (Never eaten sushi, myself.) But then just about every "American" food is based on something that originated from somewhere else... 🤣

Now you're just playing with words...

Like I said before, almost every country will tweak ethnic foods to match the tastes of its people but that doesn't make it food. Just because the pizza I get in Japan comes with weird seafood/pineapple toppings doesn't make it a Japanese pizza. If the hamburger I get in Japan comes without the bun, that doesn't mean it's Japanese food either. You can't expect to get something significantly different by copying 90% of a pre-existing dish and modifying only 10%. It just doesn't work that way.

Polite bump.

Never in my life have I eaten Japanese food before. I shame myself as an anime/manga fan. commits seppuku I'd love to try it out in the future though, when the opportunity arises.

Any good recommendations?

I like almost anything, really, as long as it is not made of some weird fish that I don't like. Most regular materials are fine. I am just fond of Japanese food. Dunno why. I also have no problem with raw fish (in fact I like it if it's the type I'm into and well-made). But I can't eat it for every meal or too often... Isn't that one of the reasons why I like it? 🙄

You don't have to like Japanese food to be an anime/manga fan. Some people just can't stand that kind of food, I know. 🤣 But do try curry if you are one of them. It might be easier. Though curry is my least favorite. Yes, it's different from Indian.

I have a takoyaki grill in my room, but nothing beats the ones at the festival.

We had a natsumatsuri at the Mitsuwa Market in July? down in Torrance, California. Hot steaming takoyaki w/ sauce and bonito flakes and a dab of mayo. Yum .

Ramen. China origin be damned.

I much prefer chinese food, and raw food is DISGUSTING. DISGUSTING. Oh, did I say DISGUSTING? Especially fish, which I hate. So raw + fish; doesn't get any worse than that. I would eat sushi for 50$, minimum. Anything else is out of the window, and definitely pieces of meat that don't look like meat, wtf is it? do not want

Though their noodles, non-fishy meats, snacks & sweets are all good to go 😀

I am pretty picky about Chinese food though. I hate the terribly made and greasy types. As long as it is on the light side and close to the authentic (e.g. food from certain region of China), not made of weird ingredients, I could give it a try and might even like it. 🤣

Give a man a Chinese dish and you feed him for three days. Take him to a buffet and you feed him for a lifetime.
