There are some biographical works. One of them outright says on the title that it's about him being a pedophile

I avoid sports and ecchi. Anything to do with sports doesn't seem entertaining to me and oddly placed panty shots aren't appealing. I usually avoid harem and reverse harem as well because most of the time it's trash.

I try not to write off anything. In my early days of manga-reading, I tended to avoid sports, mecha, and ecchi, but I've read some excellent mangas in those genres, so now, I think it really just depends on the manga. (OK, well, I've yet to read a hentai that impressed me -- but I haven't given up hope yet.)

Though it really depends on the quality of the work... I recently started to read some shounen-ai and sports manga which weren't all that bad.

I haven't read enough to really say how or why or when I do or don't like it. It depends on the characters, story, and amount of romance and smut, is all I can really say.

Historical, Sports, and Martial Arts are genres that discourage me from reading, but no genre is completely out of the way.

Avoid:
Smut- Mainly with shoujo. Haven't read that many though.
Ecchi- Same as above.
Harem- I avoid it more than smut and ecchi, don't like it much.
Yaoi- Just haven't read many of it it. From the ones I've read and disliked I can more or less grasp a feel of what the rest are like. Hence why I tend to avoid it. o_o;;

But this is me being biased since the genres I dislike I've never tried, I dislike them because I know what I'll find if I read them. The genres I avoid I don't dislike because I've read at least one or two series from each which were pleasantly good...O_O

I dislike ecchi, hentai, shoujo-ai, lolicon, shotacon and yuri, though I haven't read any and I will never will.

I also want to avoid harem, because I find the set-up annoying, some mecha and martial arts, because I find it boring, and some sport manga, because I'd rather watch it as anime.
