Considering the One Piece forum has not updated in over 50 days, I feel this was probably a unilaterial change without alot of transparency. https://www.mangaupdates.com/topics.php?fid=38. I am kind of shocked by this, but more shocked by the fact that how unnoticed this is. Considering one piece popularity and age, I wonder if mangaupdates has now lowered the bar of what for mangas are considered "echii", perverted, and/or necessary to censor from a certain age group.

• Have we raised the bar of what is considered socially non-offensives and thus non-sexually offensive or perverted?
• In other words, has mangaupdates lowered the bar for what should be considered "echii"? Why or why not? How so or how not?
• Is a popular manga grow up with their audience? Does its themes change? Or should we expect that characters to remain static?
• What does a change in definition of echii mean about changes in society? What does it mean about what common popular themes we might see in manga's future?

P.S. If you don't think One Piece being added will change how we view the "echii" genre, then clearly you underestimate how popular the series in and how many mime's it has generated.

I have already had several middle school students complain about how they are blocked by the state's 18+ anti-porn blocker from buying, viewing, or even googling the term, One Piece in their free time. 🙁

Umm are you sure shiratori...?

Because I am pretty sure I cannot edit categories and regular users cannot until they ask for permission (uploaders and reviewers are not special users above regular users). I believe you have to ask for special priviliges before that is allowed:

Well... The other day I wanted to edit something.. and a message popped up saying that I needed to type a letter telling the administrators (bless their hard-working souls...) for permission to 'udgrde' my account. So duskyderp you are correct in that sense. However, the process to upgrade you account is fairly easy, as laid out by the message I had read stating that all you needed in your letter of recommendation by you was 'I was to edit so and so manga, just cause...' So -shiratori- is correct in the sense that anyone could edit.. Yup, yup. So you're both right!

It's not new. I remember I also had to ask to upgrade a few years ago since I wanted to add missing info to certain series. It's either you don't remember or they just did it for you since you add releases.

But as F_J says. Anyone can be an updater. You just have to ask. MU is pretty much run by users.

The term is "ecchi", not "echii". How do you introduce spelling errors while copying & pasting?

So hello may have been i who gave One Piece ecchi and here is my reason:
The ecchi wiki page (also written by avengers of the night but wiki has way too much random administration) states this:

Ecchi themes are a type of fan service, and can be found in comedy shōnen and seinen manga and harem anime.

Many other fitting quotes can be found there and in books about manga. I decided that this tag is somewhat warranted as multiple storylines (especially after the time skip) have Team Ninja-esque boob jiggling, girls in scarce bikinis all the time for no reason and some (very nice!) man service. Why did i do it if it is so only side business?
It is increasing without a doubt (aka. it started to annoy me) and most importantly Soul Eater and old king in waiting Dragon Ball had that tag since forever as big selling shonen tends do. An echii series without mature attached to it is mass market reader fiendly and i guarantee you that the block software will react allergic to something else.
Ecchi has no real bar and the genre just mean titillation/fanservice and the manga has that in spades as popular shonen tends to do. There is no science to indexation in general just experience but don´t ask anyone what is adult or mature as we do not know. I for example worked in libraries since i exited school (and even there) so updating MU on the side is a hobby to me and keeps me occupied @ work. The countless series i took care of over the years tend to stay the way i left them. Everything you see here Batman (KUWATA Jirou) or a lot of the information here Kamui Gaiden is my doing.
Now back on track. Ecchi has nothing to do with sexual content (Our description reads a bit extreme) and is tv-14 at the very most. Even the children show Doraemon has random bathing scenes you won´t find in some international versions. I am not even anti-hentai but dislike ecchi in most cases unless it it is Dr. Slump pre Z Dragon Ball. Or Jigokuren/The Penisman which are good "mature" versions of the theme. I would have even removed the that tag just now but but mastermind blakraven66 is also a reader and he did not.
I will not be part of some edit war so someone else can take it away if you think that i am mistaken (but have your mother look at it first 🙂 ) as i have no hard feelings here for now (we have 10+ more years left if i last so let´s see) but the community has talked about the changing content of One Piece more often then you think. I registered here at a time when on did not need to write letters to admins to upgrade but i find this a good idea as taking 3 minutes out of your day is no bar of entry at all.
Most importantly and the reason i write this. If you see something that is looked incorrectly like a missing genre, or a completely inappropriate categories(or even a dumb categories itself that snuck by), or a locked volumes count where you know that the series has moved on in japan, or ... then please report it in your CP.
