Hey,
I'm looking for any manga (shoujo, hentai, whatever) containing the motiff of a gay guy falling for a girl (e.g. his friend). I've made some research and found out that such situations do happen in reality quite often and I'm really surprised that I can't find ANY fiction on that matter. And I'm wondering why? Am I looking in the wrong places, wrong phrases? Is it such a boring topic that nobody wants to write about it?
The only fiction about love between a gay man and a girl i know is a british tv show "Bob and Rose". But it CAN'T be all! Hope that you can help me with that.

A fluffy shoujo, but:

Atashi wa Bambi

(didn't post link as it defeats purpose of spoiler tag xD)

Utopia of Homosexuality I think this one is one too, I haven't read it yet but I'm pretty sure it ends up like that. I'm curious... how did you do research on this subject?

Venus wa Kataomoi
Exactly what you're looking for. The gay guy falls in love with his rival/friend/neighbor girl.
To an extent, NG Life is somewhat this. Not totally. Just a bit.

i just googled every phrase hitting on the subject. and all i could find were lots of forum boards and journals and that's all :/ surprised how many people deal with it. in majority of cases it's just awkward and unsolved, but there are some cases where the guy and gal got married 😛 anyway, it got me really interested in the matter 🙂

Isn't that a form of bisexuality, then? Or maybe they're just awfully lucky...after all, it's much easier in every way to be with a woman than another man; and unlike people who're just pretending to be straight, these guys are actually happy. Talk about being lucky in love! 🤣

Anyway, the only such series I know of is Utopia of Homosexuality (the title is totally misleading) And I don't consider it a spoiler, since the pairings are obvious from like...the first page.

Edit - Early days yet to say, but I'm pretty certain Crush on You will turn out like that eventually.

Edit #2 - There was also an instance where a gay guy and a lesbian got married and had a kid; Love My Life. But they are NOT the main couple (the MC is the daughter), so I dunno whether you'll be interested.

Edit #3 - Oh, and Cardcaptor Sakura too, somewhat. Guy and girl, fighting over another guy...and eventually ending up with each other. But since it's a manga for kids, the subject of sexuality is never actually brought up.

Edit #4 - Found the name for that 'condition' -- it's called heteroromantic homosexuality; sexually attracted only to the same gender, romantically attracted only to the opposite gender. Lately, the number of sexuality types is getting a little out of hand, imo. Whatever happened to the good old "everyone is bi"? Lol, kidding 🤣
That being said, you could hardly expect a manga to deal with such a complicated issue in a serious or realistic way...

Karma: What Goes Around Comes Around

Amakusa 1637

Only girl the gay guy likes is his friend the Main Character, but it doesn't help she has always looked boyish anyway :p. Later on the gay guy sort of becomes one of a bad guy.

Not a manga, but "The Peach Keeper" by Sarah Addison Allen has a sub-plot like that. I totally recommend any of her books though.

Sex Crime ( hentai )

Cross and Crime ( not hentai, but is a more detailed retelling of Sex Crime )

I second Venus wa Kataomoi. This is exactly the one I was thinking of suggesting to you.

thx guys for your comments. they're very helpful, yeeeet... these still are not 100% what i had in mind ;P. most of the plots focus on competition of two charas over a boy. they fight against each other and in the end fall for each other. i was looking for something more psychological, without such cliches.

and yes, calstine, i guess that after a gay falls for a girl he can count himself as bi 😛 . but i guess there are some guys out there who strongly believe they're gay... until they eventually fall in love with a girl.
and i like another thing that you mentioned: sexuality is one thing and romantic attraction is another. i believe that when you start to adore somebody for who he/she is to such an extent that he/she becoms sexually attractive to you, it is a perfect way to a healthy well founded relationship 🙂

An all around very interesting topic, I must say. ^_^ I can only think of one manga:

Shinshi Doumei † or Gentlemen's Alliance Cross. It's a very interesting manga with several different relationships. It's gay, lesbian, and straight, but at one part a gay guy tries to make a girl fall in love with him.

Nothing comes to mind... Which seems logical.

The interest for GLBT (Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transsexual) related content is sadly still quite small, especially in Japan I can imagine, and I for one am glad whenever a 'true' homosexual manga/anime is released (not the fanboy/fangirl crap or fake 'gay' that clogs the interwebz).

I can imagine situations where a 'gay' character could become attracted to someone of the opposite sex, especially if that someone is a close friend... It's either because they are settling, or because they are trying out (if still unsure about sexuality).
I don't recall ever reading a manga where the heterosexual main character starts dating his/her (same-sex) best friend, so why would there be any for the opposite?
-- Well not quite true, many 'all girls school' settings feature same-sex 'couples' - until they start fawning about some guy - but I wouldn't go so far as to call it love, more like extreme bosom buddies... Fake gay or what some would call 'barsexual'.

But to answer your question, maybe IS? (and the newly - today - likewise named TV series). Not really gay but gender ambiguous.
Otherwise, try searching the oneshots... I believe there lies the best chance at what you're looking for...

@joentjuh, but there are yaois where the main chara who's believed to be hetero is seduced by his pal/friend who's gay. can't remember the titles, haven't even read them 'cause i don't like yaoi/yuri, but seen some scans, read some summaries and there ARE stories like that. Why aren't there any where the situation is reversed? :<

This is true, I remember reading some yaoi like that... But in those cases the main was indeed presumed straight only to later fall in love with his counterpart, the problem with those that I read were that you were simply told (or it was insinuated) that the main was straight whilst already in the first chapter they were showing signs they were becoming attracted to the same sex... No credibility as to their presumed sexuality... Could have unknowingly been gay all his life for all I know.

  • Sorenari ni Shinken nandesu. is one such as those if I'm not mistaken. (sweet story, but still not quite 'gay guy fall for (straight) girl' or 'straight guy falls for gay guy'.
