Yep, it's gorey and ecchi...
And I don't get your second question.

The zombies look like zombified humans.
They look as much different and alike as
humans usually.

This manga is awsome! The last time I enjoyed a manga like I enjoy HOTD was about two years ago, with Tenjou Tenge and Claymore. Zombie stories are a dime a dozen but HOTD is different. It carries many different styles combining gore, horror, story turnabout and ecchiness without ending up like Gantz. I has moments of "OMG! what´s going to happen next!?!?" and then "She looks great in that kimono", "Don´t die on me!!!", "I love BATH tiiiime!" It offers a new face upon zombie-overrun-stories-yadda-yadda because it features highschool teenagers, striving between instincs of survival, "them", their will to become humans (souls, thoughts, the works).
It dwells more within the human side of things than Resident Evil with their machos-SWAT-armed-to-the-teeth-tough-sob's, and other Zombie stuff. Even other teenagers-zombies-monsters combinations just do not have the charisma of this kind of artwork, story and GIRLS! I just love Saeko-san!
And that, as they say, is that.
HOTD RULES!
