What's wrong with bossy females?

If a guy is bossy, I bet you wouldn't complain... 🙄

What does that have to do with anything?
Seriously, going from apples to oranges. 😛

@loosecannon: Well, there really isn't a system like that. Just copy & paste the other posts you want to quote.

On topic though, I think some people are actually turned on by that interaction. It's actually a desirable part of a series for some people. I can't really explain why, but sometimes I find those interactions desirable. What annoys me more is in harems where the main male lead can't make up his mind and sandbags around with a bunch of women.

In addition, if you took that interaction away, you basically remove some key parts of the interaction between the male and female leads, which shifts the story away from their relationship. If the relationship is important to the theme of the story, then you'll see different levels of teasing or whatever. They basically have to have some sort of interaction, and turbulent interaction is much more interesting to viewers then "Dear, would you like me to make you a sandwich?"...

Huh? Did I give off some kind of feeling that seems like I would like a story with a guy that's bossy? I just don't like stories with bossy people in it (or bossy people in general), and it just so happens that most of the stories I have read have bossy females in it. Sorry if I seemed misogynistic.

O_O Oh, you're not! Great~ I misunderstood you, sorry.

Hm, I think it's because of the "tsundere" thing, a lot of guys like it?

@Doc: Pshaw, of course it does make a difference. (Or maybe I have a thing against the "apples to organges" arguement, too easy to refute)

I agree with this statement, and would like to add that if the roles were inverted, such as in School Days, outrage and disgust follows.

I would also say that many manga follow a prototypical formula, because (and let's not forget this) manga is printed to make money. If the subservient male character is what draws more readers, then that stock character will be utilized.

I don't like when the female character is abused. But then again, I haven't seen many female characters being abused in manga. (I guess shoujo has many of those?)

like Manick said, some find it an essential part of the story...
But I don't. But if the manga is really so great, you can overlook it...

Maybe read less harem, or shoujo?) Or wherever there are such things.

yeah a majority of it is a result of the love of "tsundere". personally i don't find anything worthwhile about those types of characters, but they have a huuuuuge following. so it's kind of hard to find one without them being in it.

I'm slightly bending the topic here, but one thing i have noticed alarmingly in manga is the number of 'small built girls' who can beat up/physically overpower larger guys.

A few examples would be Love Hina (the main guy getting punched/kicked all the time), School rumble (tenma throwing harima judo style), and possibly hatsukoi limited, i swear Ayumi does something to some guy when some guys try to fight the big guy (forgot names).

But thats besides the point, I do find it amusing by the amount of feeble looking girls who beat up the guys 😛 , and its always in one kick/hit. 🤣

On the topic, yeah a lot of female roles within manga are bossy....but to be honest i don't think its any different from real life? You also get the passive female character types who are always shy and nice... so doesn't that even it out a bit? The more dominant female characters must attract a lot of readers or they wouldn't feature so often within the stories.

That makes me think of Change 123

You probably just read too much harem manga.

But yes, women are taking over the world. It's freakin' scary. Men, to your posts! PUT THEM BITCHES BACK WHERE THEY BELONG.

well Change 123 has a reasonable explanation of those kind of occurrences. plus the "personalities" of all the girls don't seem to be bossy either.
also i don't think it's so much that people love the "tsundere" characters, it seems more like a fad in mangas to me. it's likely to die down as a cliche sooner or later. or maybe a different form of it will pop up and take over, ex. "yondere".

I agree that part of it is the popularity of the tsundere character, but I think also it is supposed to be funny. For example when a guy gets hit for saying something stupid, or a person freaks out and sulks while being verbally abused, I think that is supposed to be like a comedy routine.

I look at it slightly differently from how most of the responses I've read have come across.

Basically, Japan is historically a quiet, non-confrontational culture, right? But as Japan has become more and more westernized, they've come to think of the self-reliant "American" woman as something of an ideal juxtaposition to their traditional belief that women should be seen and not heard. So what we have in manga is that idea personified to the extreme, creating highly loud confrontational (big-titted) female characters showing dominance over their surroundings as well as incredibly timid (flat chested) weak female characters providing the traditional stereotype. Obviously, the portrayal of an incredibly non-Japanese girl must also include aspects other than their appearance, so they also scream a lot, provide excessive physical contact (either lovingly or through violence) and typically have hobbies that are usually characterized with sports or loud music or any number of other 'non-traditional' pursuits.

Once you get into more realistic stories, the characters become more and more 'real', acting in ways that most actual people wouldn't find offensive.

Summary: A mangaka takes every personality slider in a characters's option menu and put them either at maximum or at minimum, unless the story is for a mature audience.

Personally I don't see strong, outspoken females as a bad thing at all. The tired part of the whole set up is the pushover males in my opinion. I always have liked strong women.

So, let the females rule the manga, they're usually the only reason I'm reading it anyways.

I think Samurai Deeper Kyo would definitely fit what you're looking for.
Although he gets abused by the girl earlier on, but when his split personality takes over (for the rest of the series of what I read so far...), he's the one who abuses the girl and becomes a total badass.
