Originality is rare when it comes to vampire stories/fanfics =( It makes me sad, really.
Who knows if Meyer's Edward Cullen is guilty of being the catalyst to the start of the "perfect-handsome-vampire" phase, but I have to say, it's become quite annoying. I mean, sure these perfect superhumans are charming and alluring and perhaps make your organs melt inside your rib cage, but how charming can they get if they simply act like clones of all the other leading vampires. It also gets on my nerves when the plot simply seems like: The love life between a human girl and a vampire, and the obstacles they meet along the way. Put some work into the plot, DAMMIT.

Don't get me wrong, I like Twilight. Just twilight. Its follow-ups were draggy, maybe it'd be better as a TV series that didn't end. I will read the latest book, Breaking Dawn, eventually. Just because Meyer claimed that this is the last book of the series; I want to see how it ends. And I quite admire Meyer's linguistic talents, they kind of make up for the lack of plot...

Another "Don't get me wrong": I like vampires, and the concept of them being romantic, bloodlusting creatures. I've even written my own vampire story =) But please, vampires need their own personality, they need flaws, the perfect bloodsucker image has really become a bad cliche, and not too mention, perfection is quite a boring, cardboard trait to throw on a character.

Okay, I'm done...for now?

I've read all 4 books of the Twilight saga, but i think our taste is very different, because I didn't like the first book at all!!! the only reason I continued was because I hate leaving things unfinished~
the second book was nice, the third was better, the last was a nice ending ^^

but really~ I haven't read any other vampire romance, and most of them look very teeny <_<;

Charlaine Harris is okay.
Hers...are kinda on the down low tho.
They're not really super dramatic; they're more..."what if vampires coexisted with humans?" and stuff like that.

I also heard "I Am Legend" is pretty good, but from the description, it's more sci-fi than romance and the vampires are very different from the tradtional view of vampires.

Oh, this series called "Undead and Unwed" is pretty good.
It's just a silly little read that's fast and enjoyable.
The girl character's not really surprising,
but some situations...are pretty freaking hilarious.

Yeah, that's all I can think of. I'm also having problems looking for vampire fic.

Oh, and if you're looking a good vampire manga, check out "Omae ga Sekai o Kowashitai Nara" aka "If You Wanna Break Out Of This World". It's scanlated by Storm in Heaven, and it's an utterly amazing manga. Seriously, it boggles the mind. If there's one manga you should choose to read about vampires, then it's gotta be this one. (and of course Vampire Knight is awesome too. but Omae ga is deeper.)

EDIT: The twilight craze is getting crazy. That book is like the ultimate in getting people to read. Even people who don't like reading read it, and it converts them to actually liking it.
I like the first book the most; the others were ehh...
But I still love Edward Cullen<3

Charlaine Harris with her Sookie Stackhouse -series is my absolute favourite when it comes to vampirebooks. As yumemiru said, it's not as dramatic as some of the other series mentioned here, but that just made me like it more. I find it refreshing to have an adult intelligent and down to earth woman as the heroine rather than a silly girl with rash actions a sand between her ears. And is not asthough Harris' series lacks action, humour or romance, far from it. Highly recommended ^^.

I think Jeaniene Frost is worth mentioning as well, she's not someone I'd rant about, but I did fond her work entertaining.

I'm also a loyal fan of Laurell Hamilton, though I must say her last few books haven't given me anything more than a headache. I'm hoping she'll get her act together... sigh...

Aish, I can't find a torrent to get my hands on Amelia Atwater-Rhodes... what a shame -.-

Haha, my Anne Rice phase lasted from like, 7th grade until 9th.

Not very long... but I managed to read just about everything she had written.

As for those stupid twilight books, I read THAT in 9th grade, and it made me swear off vampires for life. wtf.

I was never into vampire stuff since my mom didn't let me read supernatural stuff (including harry potter) until i was like 11 or 12.

i went to the library one day (back in 2005) and i saw this book called twilight...and i borrowed it cause it was so long (i love long books)....then a few months later (after nobody listened to me about how good it was)...it became one of the most popular books.... 🤨 I love the twilight series, but i just wish that some people weren't so extreme with their obsession 🤢

well anyway my mom signed me up for a twilight discussion (four days for the four books)...i totally forgot about it, then my sister got mad at me 'cause if i went i could've gotten breaking dawn for free >< i mean it doesn't really matter, the library already had like ten copies of it 🤨

i like the books, just not too much....
