This idea came to mind when the Topical genre was announced....XD(what happened to it? o.o) (and after lurking about in the "I'm looking for..." section)

Not sure if this has been suggested yet, but, won't it be cool if we could have another whole new search engine (kind of like the Genre function) but, is really for a "topic"? Since "topics" aren't really genres, so 🤢

Examples:

Time/Space Traveling
Reincarnation (with or without previous memories intact :?)
Body Switching (regardless of gender/creature)
Angels/Devils (plays a major role in the manga)

Virus (not virus, virus, but, like :X Something causes people to mass-suicide/do weird stuff/etc. Ex: Alive ?)
Avalanche (Everyone turns to zombies, monsters go loose, everyone in terror kind of thing?)
Evil in 1st Person (where, the protagonist is evil, and the antog is good -kind of like Death Note-)

Forbidden Love (rich/poor, beast/human, pedo, etc.)
Love Triangle
Forced Arrangements (Debt->sold off to other family/Arranged marriage/etc.)

Food related
Beauty related

Obsession (The life of someone obsessed with ____, and how he/she deals with life. Kind of like The World God only Knows (kind of..)

Transformation (goal of story is to change one person to something else; or the life of someone that went through a transformation; ugly girl->beauty, nerd->hero, or something)
I'm not sure what to call those manga where: main char happens to walk by->witness supernatural event->somehow gains power/or something gets sealed in main char->has to do/or not do something to save the world/or is now in danger because of it)

Hero/Save-the-day (random person(supposedly normal) has mysterious power and everyone wants the person(for whatever reason) and needs him/her to save the day/or anything in that category)

Collecting(?) (like, Inuyasha or Dragon Ball Collect all blah together, and you get blah blah.)

Weird school setup (Ex: Gakuen Alice, Penguin Brothers)

Cinderella (Normal girl/popular boy; Normal person turn celebrity overnight/etc.)

Showbiz (not entirely focused on celebrity love, but, the life of someone in the showbiz/modeling world. Ex: Skip Beat! )

Biographies (story mainly based on some real life person's lifel/etc.)

Parody (purely made to make fun of other stuff, Ex: Aspirin; or manga version of certain famous novels/cartoons; Ex: Ludwig Kakumei)

Crack (something purely made to make the reader extremely roll-on-the-floor-
laughing/whole purpose is to make reader laugh; comedy in its extreme?)

many thanks to chu for helping me out on this list~<3
And of course, "I'm looking for..." threads respectively 😀

Would be nice to use in the same way as the genres, since that way, we can use multiple topics at once : D

Not sure what other topics there are XD but that's all i could think up at the moment. And this thread became too long for my own good XD

You mean like searching for actual 'topics' where people already suggested stuff, or adding keywords to each series? o_o The latter has been suggested multiple times. ;__;

And you can just search the forums then for the former option, no?

No, I meant, like a whole new search engine that acts like the genre function. Like...@___@

Edit:
Like, on the genres page, instead of "Action, Adventure, Romance, Comedy..." we'll have stuff like "Time/Space Traveling" "Food Related Series"

Not "keywords" for a certain manga, but a whole general "scenario" thatt's commonly used in manga.

Another one to add on could be Split Personality... o.o;;

That was the point of the keywords, so people could search for topics that they were interesting in including most of the topics you suggested, because there was a flood suggestions to be added to the genre list.

Summed up: The purpose of keywords would serve the same purpose as the topics you're suggesting.

Hm. I guess. o_o Not exactly what I have in mind, since I personally think keywords are a bit too specific Like, just a general area (where it can expand as broad as the genres; like, everything with bread, curry, cooking<<all keywords, will go on forever XD (but they all go into the food section) XD erg, I'm not making sense...

..whatever. 🤢

Poor you~ 😛

So you're saying that keywords don't have a limit? Well, we could assign only specific keywords that you could choose from, like when you edit a series' genre area.

And when we first try to implement this keyword system, someone could make a thread for all keyword suggestions. And then, the most useful ones will be picked out and applied to the manga series.

You could leave that thread open for potentially new, useful keyword suggestions.

Would that solve your problem? 😮

We could do the entire series condensed into one word...
Which would technically mean the keyword function..=\

But I don't think this would work out well, considering we already have genres... and people can always just read the summary...

And where would you put the original stories? Like Doujin Work?
