Aw man. I'm disppointed that Japan is gonna crop the picture to make it widescreen like funimation did. I was hoping they'd keep it fullscreen. I kinda don't wanna watch it now. =(
I'm stoked for widescreen. I loathed widescreen movies even when I had a 13" tv, and now that I have a 32" one can't bother with "fullscreen". And the HD conversion should be much better, it's not like they drew as low def as they did, so recopying the originals in a better format will be good! It is a major tweak.
I do really love widescreen movies, don't get me wrong. I just hate it when the original image gets croped to make it look like widescreen. I really hope I will one day get to watch DBZ in fullscreen HD (I doubt it though by now). in the end, I'll probably watch it anyway since I'm a huge dragonball fan. ^^;

Just finished watching the first episode of Dragon Ball Kai, and I have to say that I was wrong with my assumptions. The OP and ED are top-notch, and while the episode footage looks old compared to the anime now, if you compare it to the original episode that was made in 1989, then it looks WAY better.
It's kinda sad, but it looks to be better than most anime that's come out lately, and it's just redone old footage.

Has any group picked it up or did you watch it raw?

So far, two groups have subbed it: Suppiido-Fansubs and SafetyDance. I downloaded the Suppiido-Fansubs version, so I don't know the quality of the SafetyDance one.
