manga based films

I like Koroshiya Ichi because I saw it before I even knew it was a manga; and I dig Takashi Miike's twisted sense of humor which definitely gave the movie a special "spice". (though he's made a lot of crap too, but that goes with the territory he's in)
Even so, I agree, the movie is at times incredibly hard to follow because Miike tried to cram as much as possible in those 2 hours. Often losing sight of the real story, and just going haywire with his visual fancies. One thing I especially dislike about the movie is how he COMPLETELY screwed up "The Twins". Those were some of the sickest, scariest, downright vile characters I have ever seen in a fictional story.
Whereas Miike just portrayed them as a couple of goofballs. Not done.
All in all, I still like the movie. But the manga is just a more complete experience (and one that actually makes sense, aside from all the splatter and gush!), and far superior.
Pity Hideo Yamamoto had a case of writer's block (as he sometimes does) at the time Miike asked him to write a screenplay for the flick.

that kind of makes me want to watch the ichi movie, i loved the manga(nothing has screwed me up as bad as that story) and even if i hate the movie, itll expand on it
I just cant understand whyd theyd even think of a live action DBZ movie, it would either be horrendous or have almost nothing to do with the manga(think super mario bros)
Actually, there is already a Dragon Ball movie. It was made along time ago in China, and its horrible. A modern made movie, done right, wouldn't be too bad.
Also, I remember watching Devilman and Cutie Honey. I enjoyed Devilman, and Cutie Honey felt like I was watching a Sentai program.
Oh, and no matter what anyone says, I enjoyed Casshern.

I actually enjoyed the Death Note live action movie... It took a different viewpoint from the anime Death Note... and Light seemed much, much more evil.

I wasnt to impressed with the Death Note movie. The only part i liked was the last 20 minutes of the first film. I cant think of any other movie that was not mentioned already but the Nodame Cantabile l-a series was a really good adaptation.

Don't know about that, I thought the movie was crap 🙂 Even if I have to admit that it was somewhat entertaining anyway... and I definitely remember it. That's something that rarely happens. Probably most because of how weird it was though.

I have got to say, the only movie that anybody mentioned that would really intrest me is the battle angel alita one. I saw oldboy, which was good. I really didn't like the battle royal manga, so i didn't bother seeing the movie. If i hadn't read the books first i would maybe have liked the movie.
There has to be a lot more of less action battle gore manga movies out there besides NANA. Anybody ever watch them?

this thread is about good worthwhile movies that are based on manga.
The movie for Lovely Complex is good for cute, fluffy, shoujo fun.
Can't really recommend the Honey and Clover movie, unfortunately. It's not awful, but they tried to cram too much into the movie and at the same time left too much out.
Can't think of any others I've seen...lots of dorama, but not too many movies. It's pretty hard to cram a whole manga series into a movie-length show.
