When somebody changes thier avatar it takes a while before I get used to it..
I don't know.. It's just that when someone changes the avatar they start to "look unfamiliar", and hard to recognize even by nickname.. 🤢

And yeah, I usually look at the avatar immediately, but if I don't recognize it, I look at the nick.

I like the avatars that stand out, i recognize the names of very active posters and the avatars of not so active posters

Like nearly everybody else I remember avatar then nickname. However once I get used to an avatar/nick combo even when some one changes their avatar I still remember the one I got to know them by.

Sorry for being incoherent

Nickname and Avatar since a bunch of people decided to do the FMA yaoi avatar. Generally it's more of a check avatar and confirm with nickname for more active members and vice versa if I don't recognize the avatar.

I actually remember members by their picture in their sig. If they don't have a picture in their sig, however, then I remember them by their avatar.
