I don't consider "gay" to be a derogatory term. I find it like a shorter version of homosexual. "Fag" is derogatory though. The word gay also has the meaning of happy. So I sometimes use it to make fun of my friends. I have no problem with gay people but when they start hitting on me, or touching me that's when I draw a line.

Had a funny experience when my friend called me and said if he could drop by my house with two friends. I said ok. Once he arrives He points to one guy first and says this is "name" he is gay, turns to the other guy and says: this is "name" he is bi. The first words out of my mouth were: "Cool, grab a beer guys." 😀

What I meant is that breeding was there before sexuality; when you can gategorize the sex behavior, you are talking about sexuality - and animals "had sex" long before we came and started to tell what's gay sex and what's straight sex. Sexality is the newer thing not breeding like ranmaru thinks.

I have a lot of gay friends, it's just their sexual orientation, no big deal.

It is interesting to read everyone's opinion. I like the debate around homosexuality and fight for survival on the crowded earth.

Homosexuality is not a way for nature to control population. War is. In nature when there is no room left or not enough food or water, there is war and the strongest survive.

But it's been a while since we cut all bonds with Nature. We are "civilised". We fight for other reasons, now. Homosexuality will not prevent the next war. In my opinion it will be religion that will cause it. I don't remember who said "Good people do good things. Bad people do bad things. But it take religion for good people to do bad things". But this is not the subject.

I would have good reasons to be homophobic. In my tenth year, a man try to molest me in public toilets (I am male, by the way). But I'm not. I had two good friends homo. I talk in the past because one of them died of AIDS. He was so kind and candid. Even if he was gay, he was the most innocent man I ever know. In his world (he was a professional classic dancer), homosexuality was as natural as anything else. He shouldn't have listen to his friends and go to that trip in Italy. Stupid disease. The other one is still alive and for anyone who doubt that there can't be real love between to guys, you're wrong. He was in love with a seropositive man. Dispite of that, they lived together until the very end. He was supportive and ... everything. Man, that was so moving. They had hard times. His boyfriend's family were bigots, so you can imagine what they went through. Not unlike a kind of "Love Story" but between two men. His boyfriend died 4 years ago. And then his boyfriend's family was so mean with him. You can't imagine. Stupid disease.

I can't stand watching two men kissing. I can't read yiao (on the other hand when it's two girls, I'm aroused). But I really don't mind having homo friends. Even my wife, who is pretty conservative, loves our gay friends. They are nice people who deserve our friendship and respect.

You don't choose to be gay. I met a lot of stupid people who thought that gay men were oversexed guys unable to control their pulsions to the point of having sex with anybody even their own gender. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Biology tells us now that this is a condition. They can't help it. It's not a disease, it's a fatality, like being left handed or right handed. Their brain is set that way. A biologist can tell when a brain is from a female or a male. The compositions of some tissues are different. A big majority of the gay men have a female type of brain. You can't compose your brain. It grows like that. Interrestingly, lesbian don't have a male brain, but brain composition is not everything. There is far more than that. But the fact that male gay's brain are generally of female type is one sign that you can't choose your sexuality.

though I'm curious to know what you mean when you say 'a majority of male men have a female type brain'. I confused, are you talking about the way the brain is structured make them act and think as female? for instance, TV stereotypes gay men as overly feminine (which drive me round the bend because they place them all into one category), did you mean it that way?

Excuse me if I sound to accusatory, I'm just careful when people say 'females have this type of brain' and 'men have another'. It's not to say that there are not differences biologically, but there are also there are environmental and social factors influencing stuff like that. Also there have been studies to show there are not as many differences between men and women with the brain as people think (of course there are differences, you just have to be careful of how much of a difference there is). So mainly I'm just curious about what you mean when you say a gay mans brain is like a females.

It is not because you will befriend a gay that you will become one. I befriend women, I don't want to sleep with them. You can be close to someone, care for him/her, look up to him/her without wanting to be intimate with him/her.

Now, if you are sexually attracted to a guy.... sorry to break this to you but you migh be gay. 😉

When I wrote most of gay males have a female brain, I should have been more precise. There was an histological study on brain gender of "straight" men and women (dead of course, since they sliced up the brains) and homosexual people. Biological differences between male and female brain in humans are well documented. Compared to women, men have been found to have larger volumes, relative to cerebrum size, or differences in neuronal densities in other limbic and paralimbic regions [i.e. amgydala (Giedd et al., 1996), hypothalamus (Swaab and Fliers, 1985; Allen et al., 1989; Zhou et al., 1995) and paracingulate gyrus (Paus et al., 1996)], larger genu of the corpus callosum (Witelson, 1989) and overall white matter volume (Passe et al., 1997; Gur et al., 1999), and greater cerebrospinal fluid [lateral ventricles (Agartz et al., 1992; Kaye et al., 1992) or sulcal volume (Gur et al., 1999)]. Some have argued that men have more neurons across the entire cortex (Pakkenberg and Gundersen, 1997; Rabinowicz et al., 1999) and women, more neuropil (Jacobs et al., 1993; Rabinowicz et al., 1999). In short, men and women don't have the same brain. And a study showed that most homosexual men have a female histological brain profile.

I want to precise here that these differences don't give any clue on who is smarter. The time when big brains mean big intelligence is far gone. A parrot has a far smaller brain than a cow. In my fifth year of college, there was as much men and women but at the exam, on the ten first people there was only one guy.

But there is one thing you have to keep in mind when you read such studies that give or take back arguments on biological clues related to sexuality : although these articles are written by well known serious scientists, most of the time the biological research is based on unwarranted assumptions about human sexuality, sex differences, and sexual orientation that have been imported from the social sciences and popular beliefs. Un fortunatly, behind objective science and documented arguments, biological research on homosexuality is too often based on personal beliefs and cultural prejudices.

I voted other, because the people i know (including me ) who use gay as a derogatory term don't mean that homosexuals are in anyway bad. Its similar to calling my flatmate a girl, I do not hate girls, infact quite the opposite.

So I guess you're meaning that the study showed that this is the reason why men can be attracted to other men? (I guess I was refering more to behaviour type aspects).

no, that was a time when they used weird instruments to measure brain capacity. and as you said, being bigger does not always mean better, nor would the differences between a female and male brain indicate who is smarter.

Sadly, all studies are biased to a certain extent, no matter what you read. That was drilled into my brain in first year university, and I'm only in my 2nd. I see your point though, it sucks when what you read might sound very good but has a lot assumptions and biases that might have affected the result of the study. Particularly with something like sexuality as it is is such a touchy issue for so many people.
