@GreenTeaStrawberry
You forgot about guns. The day I saw that they butchered out every single gun on One Piece was the day I just gave up on watching any anime on TV.

True. But I actually found that part hilarious, when I saw the super soakers and the fingers I bursted out laughing.

That is one reason not to go to Iowa. Also why was a collector getting yaoi in the first place that is very weird. I was thinking it was going to like lollicon but yaoi wow. Also like others said why the hell would they bring this to trail that is just retarded. Seriously. I mean its fiction.

Recently, some of DMP's yaoi manga disappeared from amazon.com and borders.com. According to some online sources, they are involved in this case. I'm not a fan of shota or loli, but I'm a fan of yaoi, which is manga by women for women. What yaoi has to do with pedophilia is beyond me. The fact that this anime and manga collector had so many volumes and dvds, yet only a handful were selected for the indecency charge should demonstrate his tastes. They didn't find any real child porn, which is what makes this case so shocking. It's scary times we live in, and I'm glad I don't live in Iowa. If they convict him, it'll set a precedent that could send thousands of anime and manga collectors to prison. And what about all the yaoi manga publishers and all the retail and online stores that carry yaoi manga? Considering that even middle-aged men are not drawn with pubic hair and some younger-looking adults are drawn, the line seems unclear even if you don't consider manga art. How anyone can consider art drawn by an artist not art is also beyond me.

Seriously?

Like Dr.Love said, it's fantasy. How can you arrest someone for something that was thought up in someone else's head, and then put on paper with just strokes of the pencil/pen/brush?

it is a precaution. they want to be sure that he won't turn out to be a child molester.

You can't arrest people for "precaution" otherwise you'd see people being arrested for smoking (they might move on to heroin!). Something is either legal or illegal. Nor can you set excessive punishment to make an example of someone. In fact, it's unconstitutional - see "cruel and unusual punishment".

Quote from Greenteastrawberry

This is America. You can't expect anymore than that. Making big deals about child security and such. Look at 4kids, what do they cut out? Mature themes, inappropriate language, and gore. Apparently, in America, when you cut someone blood won't come gushing out. It's the same with the loli man.

Oh come on. Do you mean to tell me that most other countries don't have censorship laws as well? I realize that it's the popular thing to hate on America, and yes I agree that America has its flaws, but please. You're blaming the actions of one private company who tried to dumb down an already fairly mild anime on all of America? America which has made the horror gore genre (Saw) into mainstream.

@ The actual case: If I were the defendent I would take this all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. This is only an issue because of Iowa's state laws. First off, it seems as though a judge has already struck down the child pornography part so the case suddenly becomes a whole lot more favorable. This means the only issue here is whether or not yaoi is considered obscene or not under Iowa law. However, the guy obviously bought the manga for PRIVATE enjoyment, and private obscenity laws are FAR more laxed than public. For example, it's perfectly fine to walk around nude in your house; however, try doing that in the middle of Time Square and your ass will be warming itself in prison. Second, the entire medium of comics in general has always been pretty vague in terms of obscenity laws imo. Most comics seem to be given far more leeway but every once in awhile, a random comic will be slapped with a case. This needs to be cleared up.

HUGE EDIT:
Can't believe I just thought of this now but does anyone know if this same law would apply to regular hentai? Because if it doesn't, that seems like glaring discrimination. What if this guy is simply gay? No really. Are you telling me that he can't enjoy porn of his choosing in the privacy of his own house. The guy is of legal age, he had the books mailed to his house, it's not like he was gonna blow it up and paste it all over downtown.

Then we might as well lock up all the kids who steal a couple of candies from the candy store, since they might rob banks later on...

 🤨 There goes half of the population.

Precaution is BS. They first have to deal with offenders that actually committed a crime. They're not Gods, they don't know what a person will do, how events will flow. Yes, he might turn into a child molester, but there's an equal chance that he won't and would just continue to indulge into his fantasies. Most people can keep fantasy and reality apart, or else 50% of the MU members would've already committed a murder/attempting some impossible skill (i.e. flying).

I love Dr.Love (hey, its a metaphore, no yaoi here -oh well im not in Iowa-)

@Aneste: that sentence is REALLY frightening (no offense, srsly)

Anyway, this news is just fantasy, really. Lol to aggravate the otherwise ridiculous position of a Yaoi mangas acquirer, they even added the infaming CP to the accuses, obviously to retreat them after. But his name now is done for, he wont be able to show his face out in town, i bet: thaaanks Mr.Prosecutor! spits

you found me frightening because i can understand why they did it?

Quote from Aneste

but it seems funny to arrest a fantasizing guy instead of a real child molester. i think they just wanted to show that they are powerful or something

this is the problem with quoting only a part of a post. sighs too many misunderstanding. anyway this will be my last post in this thread. because i see no point in discussing this. child porn is wrong even if it is manga/anime but before they should deal with real molesters....

@doc
and we might give punishment to those who steal a couple of candies. it doesn't have to be locking up. stealing is stealing anyway under any condition. and it should be punished.

no Aneste, thinking on behalf of someone else and "preventing" this someone from doing imaginary things (at least he is LIKELY to do them only in our head) is very wrong.

Besides i previously edited my post because, on second thought, it appeared to me too angry/flamily on your accounts, and i wasnt, really. Luff you~ :3
