Manga. Since there's more variety.

Quote from CiellavonNightmare

For general shoujo, I've seen a lot of stupid shoujo heroines in manga. And when I say stupid, I mean, weak, lovestruck, dumb, stupid. Y'know what I mean 🤨 In manhwa, the lead is the opposite. She is strong, loudmouthed and beautiful (most of the time). The art may be better when it comes to manga but for the typical shoujo, I'd say manhwa. The plots have good twists, the characters are funny and there is no rape crap (like the other say) and I'm a big fan of Kdramas 🤣 😀 But...I've read more manga than I'll ever read manhwa. You have to look hard to find the good mangas with good plot, and manhwas that have beautiful art.

Definitely Agree with you. It just seems like manhwas are so much more realistic and more believable. I mean I'm a fan of manga too but I just wish mangas had more heroines and plots like manhwas did. 😃

Why don't manga's artists and manhwa's plot just combine or something? Too much pride?? Get over it!!

Manga. Definitely manga! I hate manhwa stories. I hate the characters. I hate the art. I just like the humor a bit. There are so few manhwas that I enjoyed reading... (like Noblesse or Goong) Mangas have something different. The way the story is told is much more beautiful. 😃

i don't really care. as long as i like the art and the plot is appealing, than for me it's okay. i mean, yeah, i've read more manga than manhwa, but that's just because there are more manga than manhwa out there. the art isn't that different, and the way the plot and characters are written and developed have nothing to do with the writer's nationality. i mean, you're not a better writer just because you're born in Japanese or in Korea or in China.
the only thing i found it...easier to remember in manga are the character's names. but aside from that, i don't really care if it's a manga or a manhwa, as i said before, what matters to me is the quality, not the nationality.

Either is fine, but most of my favourites happens to be manga.

As for manhwa art, my main criticism is the weird body proportions - they just look freakishly long. There also doesn't seem to be much 'life' to the pages - everyone and everything seem so 'static' as if they're posing in an artbook. Far too stilted for my liking.

EDIT: Why aren't there any shounen/seinen manhwa? Lack of interest? Plus, are there any male manhwa authors/artists out there?

When I was just starting to read manga, I preferred manga, but I've read many quality manhwas since, and now I don't discriminate. I've found mangas to have more solid, consistent plots on average, but some of the most unique, captivating things I've seen are in manhwa. I look forward to more manhwas being picked up by scanlators.

I think the art varies by series. In my opinion, Beauty Is the Beast (manga) has much more static art than Annarasumanara (manhwa) - however, both rank among my favorite series regardless. If we're talking about stereotypical art, I actually like that manhwa heroines are often taller and more mature-looking.

There are a good number of shounen/seinen manhwas out there. Shin Angyo Onshi, Hotel, Ares, and Noblesse are just a few. It seems, though, that the manhwa industry is relatively small, and a lot of manhwa authors strike it out on their own via webcomics or get picked up in manga serials.

It all depends on the story and art for me. Manga and manhwa don't matter. I love both.

Actually, now that I think about it, there are no shoujo manga that I actually like. Instead, all of them are actually manhwas.

Weird.

Manga all the way. I like manhwe, but in the end my favorites are always manga. Some manhwa I can't even read - but there are a few that I really, really like. 😀

My very favorite manhwa is the Bride of the Water God not only because of its awesome story but because of its simply breath taking art work. 😲

I like manhwa, because my favorite genre is romance, and most manhwas center around a romantic theme 🙂 I also like that many of them seem to portray emotions and situations a bit more realistically... it's hard to explain, but for instance one reason why I couldn't get past the first chapter of Ouran Host Club was because all that was overdone.
