Hey, anyone here speak more than 2 languages and get mixed up all the time? because i do and its really embarrassing when you talk to people in japanese/chinese when they only understand english or talk in japanese to someone who's chinese, or someone who's chinese in japanese, this stuff always is happening to me... and it's so annoying. Any other multi-lingual people have this problem? or is it jsut me who hangs out with the asian exchange students and the white people :/

Yeah i get that allot-i speak Serbian,English,German,and little Spanish and Japanese.And when i can`t remember words from one language i speak words from other,and the people are like-"What did you just said 😕 "^^

I've done it when learning three languages at the same time. (Welsh, French and German)

I spoke one sentence with all those languages plus English mixed together.

Now the only language I can speak is English, so it doesn't happen any more.

lol i dont either, i speak a whole sentence in al anguage then thingk to myself "... that guy doesn't speak this language... -.-" and look like a total idiot, but it happens when your chatting in english, mandarin, japanese and cantonese at the same time ;_;

it happen only when i think in eglish or japanese, but when i write or speak it all goes well... aside from some spanish word that sound really japanese...

One of my professor used to mix french, english and japanese...>_<' it's really funny to hear.

Happens all the time. A lot of Latinos live around my neighborhood, so I always assume someone knows Spanish once I meet them, but to my embarrassment they don't. There are some occasions when I'd just go on a rant, and the other person (victim) doesn't say anything out of politeness, they just nod or don't say anything. But even that's worst, when the next day you learn they didn't understand a word you were saying. >.<

I often (rarely though) mess up when I speak, because all the languages I know are similar. That's embarrassing as well.

My litterature professor (he is japanese) speak french really well maybe better than some french people but he has a horrible accent that make him almost ununderstandable without some training^^ funny to see how people that never heard him before react when he begin to speak, he also don't know how to use a microphone so it's even harder to hear him...

I speak Spanish and Japanese fairly well, but I can't really say I'm a native speaker. I guess this is why I keep on INTERCHANGING spanish and english words, even simple ones, like numbers and greetings.

However, I don't have the same problem when I speak English and Tagalog. I can mix them when I want, but when I'm required to speak straight English I can dish it out without a problem.

I dunno, I guess in my experience it happens more often with languages that I've acquired, and less often with languages that I've known since birth.

I had lots of trouble with it when I was doing my homework for my Japanese class. Things got really messed up when talking on MSN. My mother tongue is Swedish and I use that when speaking to my Swedish friends. Then there's lots of people I speak English with. And then there was the Japanese grammar and words. Also, there are practically no Japanese-Swedish dictionaries so I had to translate Japanese to English and then from English to Swedish. My brain was on overload.

I still tend to mix up Swedish and English quite a bit, especially when I've got a lot of MSN convos going on at the same time but in different languages.

Yea...it's embarrassing. My grandparents make fun of me when i accidently start to mix English with Vietnamese and start nagging me to speak more in Viet (I think I speak it enough imo. XD).

Yeah, when I can't get my point across, I start mumbling in the other language, cause they have a word for what I'm trying to say
Also, people look at me like I'm slow or something when I start adding foreign words 😛

I love learning languages....so I know a lot of words in those languages....I can obviously speak English, but Spanish, Italian, Tagalog...along with a little of french, japanese, and russian....i'm still learning many more.

What was really embarassing was when I had an oral test in Spanish class...and I kept practicing what I was going to respond...but in japanese...it was soo bad! my teacher was staring at me since i wasn't responding to her question...little did she know that i was thinking in a different langugage >.<
