Personally, I'd known about and been visiting MangaUpdates LONG before my join date but I rarely sign up for websites and/or throw away/make new accounts. My profile says I 'joined' in 2010 (lolno) so I bumped it back to 2009.

That said, it always amuses me how so many people will always claim they've been with something since the beginning. 10% has been with MU since 2004 but 5% since 2005? BS.

No clue actually. So went with the joined date which was in 2006. Probably lurked a while before joining. Lurk is also appropriate when talking about manga scanlations. 😛

Edit, as for previous poll. Full Moon wo Sagashite anime >> manga after the split in story lines. Some manga just are tied up badly due to time/idea constraints.

I guess it's kind of like a default option for those who don't have a clue when they started using the site? All I know is that's it's been a long time.

Love Hina was the first series I read online, I think the year was 2002. Gods knows how I even found that site. I even read volumes that weren't out in bookstores yet! (Imagine that.) It'd be a year or more before I really got into scanlations. Once I did, I'd binge read Hikaru no Go, Flame of Recca, I"s, etc.

It's harder for me to place when I started vising MU. With certainty I can say it was before 2007. I remember when the list feature came out and I thought it was worthless. Who would want to keep a tally of what they'd read? (But I guess when you follow 100s of series it starts to become useful.) I recall using the site for a significant period of time before that. Not sure how long is a significant period of time is for a high schooler but I'd say at least a year.

I guess I was one of those that voted 2004 that should probably have voted 2005. On the other hand, I do remember using a similar site before MU (Daily Manga I think it was called; edit: nope Manga Jouhou) before settling on MU so maybe I was here from the beginning?

Although in the member list I've just joined the page for about 3 and a half years, the truth is I've been visiting this page coutless time since my highschool days, when my English was still so bad I couldn't even understand the purpose of the website (My English still sucks now, LOL). Which made it about 10 years - nearly half of my age (EDIT: Just about 8-9 years I'm sorry, I mistook MU with Manga jouhou) - Time sure flies! Talk about nostalgia, huh.

Anyway, this poll needs an option for people who can't remember the time they got involved with the site! We're just a bunch of growing old people to boot, seriously! xD

I think it was en 2011, the year I enter college, asuming that was the period I started reading manga in english cause I eas too impacient to wait for an extra say and then I saw many good mangas that didn't have translation and this page was too good to keep a list.
Os course I may had had an acount before reading too much in english so give or take 1 year.

My profile says 7 years, but I know that I lurked for at least a year, probably closer to two before I joined the site. So...between eight and ten years. Probably nine. 😀

In that case, isn't it better to make the poll "How soon did you join after you first started visiting MangaUpdates?".
Expecting people to track those dates is kinda silly - unless there was something personally memorable around the time of joining, no way will anyone remember them.

Apparently I've been here for 6 year and 5 months. I didn't even realize so much time had passed.

profile says I joined April 2007, but I think I lurked for a while before that, so should be around mid to end 2006, my final year of school.
