166 when my brain is on, when not it's about 34.

Aren't people that have >160 of IQ considered geniuses? That's cool!!

I can only use about 45% of my brain at any given time so i must have been feeling good.

IQ tests really don't mean much. Who cares how much brain power you have. It all depends on how you use your brain power. Also the human brain only uses 10% of it's power

one of the guys, watson or crick, who created the DNA model had an average IQ
he taught universities where he had the lowest IQ in the class he was teaching

This is a poor phrasing of the question. There are two common IQ tests; both operate with a different standard deviation--and it is different enough to impact the meaning of a score significantly.

The proper question would be, "How many standard deviations from the mean are you, and in which direction?" The next step would be to make it explicitly clear that internet IQ scores are not to be posted.

But that's nitpicking. Even when strictly controlled like that, IQ is, in the end, just another number that defines a tiny slice of us; for example, my IQ is ungodly high on the official test I took (160-something or another on the Stanford-Binet test, which is approximately four standard deviations above the mean; hence I am approximately one in one million) and, quite frankly, nobody speaking to me would ever guess it--and not because I try to hide my brains or something--because the only thing those scores predict well is academic performance and an accurate range general to such terms as 'Below Average,' 'Average,' and 'Above Average'. Funny enough, because of my piss-poor work ethic, my academic performance isn't nearly on par with what could be expected of me. If I did my homework, maybe; if I ever studied, maybe. But I'd never do that shit.

Studying is for chumps. There are way better things to do with my time--now if you'll excuse me, I've got message boards to troll.

Oh, by the way, whomever it was that said that we only use ten percent of our brain power is likely clinically retarded: the original statement was that we only use ten percent of its area at any one time (where people got, "power at all," in stead of "area at any given time" I can't fathom), though all of it is used; and then that statement was disproved quite some time ago. Apparently, at any given time, healthy chunk of our brain is doing something.

I generally get the 140-145 range in online tests.

I know a guy who's in the 160+ range and he's ungodly smart. Got into university at the age of 16-17 and consistently got 100% in each class. His normal reading speed is what speed reading would be to us mere mortals.

Well, IQ's something, but it ain't everything.

One of my friends once told me this: "IQ is a nice car."

Meaning, it's most likely useful, but in the end it's used to show off. 😛

Oh, and I took a mensa test a few years back, and my IQ turned out to be 121.

edit: oops, I was search surfing, and didn't notice this thread was a year old. I apologize...

There's nothing wrong with bumping threads.

I don't know my IQ, but I think it is high. 😛

Mine was 137 or around that value on most tests I took online. xD

Though on the only IQ test I took that was actually in my native language, I had 143.

Right now the vote results go as "50% with a higher IQ than 130".

There might be a good idea to state in this vote what standard deviation is beeing used. From my experience, in votes like these, people tend to state their IQ's using as high standard deviation as possible, without actually mentioning that std (std 24 and such sillyness 😀 )

Anyway, assuming everyone here uses the most common std of of 15 (or std 16- > IQ 132: 98th percentile), IQ 130 and above should represent the top 2% (98th percentile) of the population. (hello 50% at MU, gifted members XD)

The 98th percentile is also what determine membership eligibility in the high-IQ society Mensa.

As Pseudopadoz mentioned, there's actually better ways to formulate a vote like this. Something like "In what percentile do you reside?" or something similar to that would probably be better, just due to the fact that IQ is a measure of "intelligence" (I "." it as intelligence is really so much more than just IQ) compared to the rest of the population. Hence at a vote of actual IQ numbers we should expect a mean of 100, and not ~130 XD

I reside in the 99th percentile or above. (IQ > 135, official Mensa Entrance test, std 15).
