samurai x - although i think you know this, but what the heck...
gintama - may not be the one your looking for but the arcs of this manga has a lot of action and he always pawns all of them and glimpse of his past can be seen in some chapters when he was a renowned revolutionary. Try jumping some chapters to see the arcs.
