Quote from TRMshadow

"I know X is illegal, so I don't want to use it, but the other guys might not think that way and they'll probably use X, so I will too."
.

seriously?just try to picture a country where everyones holding up a gun against everyone,do you feel safer now?
a country where i cant take a stroll along the beach without carrying a gun with me is not a country ,its a jungle
okay maybe you would use it wisely but i know a few people who, given a chance, would use this to their convenience
and in case you're wondering,no theyre not crazy ass murderers or anything they're just a bunch of dumb girls and boys who would use guns to tease or even steal

lol no need to carry a gun-- literally, it's good enough if you're cautious of trouble dont make drama out of it..
those bunch of dumb girls and boys steal and tease without any need of a gun it's called shop lifting and bullying

Yeah but it's a question of can you trust someone to use a gun for defence purposes only? And if everyone is allowed to have a gun then how are you ment to defend yourself against a criminal who has a gun. In the end it will just be who fires first either way it will end up with someone being dead or seriously injured.

My answer is simple, no. For everyday people they should not at least, people who have authority and are trained such as police officers(including off-duty) should be though. Firearms are not needed or necessary for the casual person. For protection? You have other options depending on the situation.

yeah, i know, like those ppl who get shown in soap operas or get media's attention for killing a husband while having a family quarell, but as we've discussed before then if not killed by a gun then killed by a knife-- as it doesnt make any difference at all then i dont see a problem in having a firearm in the first place not that it's worth the money though
--or someone being injured, no harm in shooting an arm or a leg

The diffrence between guns and knives is that knives are also used in a culinary and more productive way in which makes them more accessible to people. I am fully aware that guns can be used in a sporting way but then they usually have licenses.

Also don't forget that guns have range and are harder to defend from than knives. It's like I said before if there is a way to prevent further harm to people then why not take it.

true, then are you suggesting that we should legalize guns only to invalids and red necks? lol

Lol no, I am saying that we should not legalise them at all to the general public. I think that only trained officers and people who inforce the law should carry guns and that they should only use them as a last resort. I also believe that if you're using a gun for sporting purposes you should have a license and that your gun should never be carried around in public. If you need to get your gun from A to B it should be unloaded and in a tightly sealed case not a holder. Also I think the gun should have a serial number so in case of misuse it can be tracked down.

its legal as long you have a license for which you have to go through training, instructions, get mental health checked and pay for all that. that's business, baby
there's no point in keeping a gun if it's unloaded, just loading it with some rubber bullets and keeping the gun away from children should be okay

The answer must be no, guns should not be legal. Gun are imho far more dangerous than other weapons because they can be fired from a range and still be lethal, its their purpose.

The claim that they are great for self defense is imo just not true. Because we all know that the use of any firearm would not just be limited for that use only. Some might be able to comprehend that this is the one and only use for it but the majority would use them for whatever. Imagine every dimwit in your area carrying a gun, and yes they would be the first ones to get one, would they only use it for self defense? I think not. We would end up with the mine is bigger than yours scenario. And when said dimwits would get angry, who knows what they would do. And well some might just find it fun to hurt or threaten others and a gun is just one of the best things to do that with.

Secondly its just not practical. For example if you got the gun at home the chances are about 50/50 that a burglar would get the gun before you. Yeah some would argue that they keep it in a safe, a drawer and so on, but if its lying there you just wouldn’t get it in time and the gun would then be useless.
Or lets say you just hear a sound you rush down the stairs or in the living room, gun went off, you shoot the family dog. In none of the cases the gun was of any use and could potentially cause more harm than good. The chances are too high that your own gun would be pointed at you or you would harm another being. Or the worst case a kid could find it.

Thirdly we would end up having a small arms race. You get a gun, bad guy gets an even bigger gun and so on.

Fourthly people would die. It is that simple as that. When someone would feel threatened there would be the chance that he or she had a gun and might use and what would the other person do? Yep pull his or hers gun. And well accidental shots are not unheard of and we would end up with dead people.
The claim that you can just aim at the arm or leg is just not plausible, firstly you could still die from blood loss and secondly people cant aim, honestly they cant, so the chances are that it would hit in a lethal spot would still be quite high unless it is point blank range
. While as it is now it is still not impossible to get a gun it is harder to get one and that might scare some people off from obtaining one.

On the other hand I am all in for non-lethal/less lethal weapons

Neither because it's true. People become competitive for the simplest things. Gangs do it all the time and so do countries, they all wanna say "we have the bigger guns, fear us".

of cause not. it will benefit no one except suicidal maniacs and possible terrific who will not need to smuggle weapons why? because it's legal.
