Then maybe you can see if your local library has it. But IRC is free just like BT programs. Otherwise, I guess you can go without. I wonder how you're getting the other manga though. From the bookstore?
That'd make a nice laugh... i live in Portugal where american comics are underground stuff and manga is completely unknown so my only chance is to get'em online ( mostly through direct download)
I'm surprised that some of these titles are on direct download. I end up going to Lurk via IRC more. I don't know which one costs more for bandwidth though (but Lurk needs support to keep it up). IRC opens up lots, and lots of manga. You won't know what to do with the stuff as I see it, after flipping through the "How many manga do you read at a time?" thread. geez thanks for the
manga traders tip ( see now it's more sneaky).
yep my lazyness does bother me but when i start thinking about it jus get too tired and i have to lay down in my bed 😛
bah i wish i knew japanese 🙁
Personally, I think you only need to know Japanese if you want to read manga that hasn't be scanslated or a specific title that won't get scanslated, like the Tale of Genji in manga format (that's a very different title to read due to the poetry, according to Shoujomagic's info page on it), or even if the manga title that you were following got dropped and no one picked it up and it's not licensed. It ends up maybe being maybe equal or more expensive with having the book mailed (probably from Japan or near there) compared to a licensed book in that country, plus the effort of translating the work (there's the easy stuff and there's the harder stuff). Of course that depends on the country. Of course I'm not 100% sure on this stuff. 😛 🤢
Besides, to get the good raws, I think it also comes back to IRC. The stuff ended up on IRC partly to weed out (lazy) people and obviously the matter of bandwidth.

Aww, you can't be that scared about swinging the other way that you worry saying that Japanese is a "rich and beautiful language" is gay, can you? XD But just to read manga, it shouldn't require as much compared to speaking and writing it when the easy stuff is picked, but translating for other people is probably another issue. ^^;
But for myself (and maybe other members), just how many recommdations do you want and which ones have been good picks by us for you? Otherwise, couldn't this thread just go on forever with recommendations? ^^;
(Yay, 103 forum posts... I missed 100 and 101. XD)

Well it's still going on, but Hajime no Ippo debuted in 1989, and uses the old school art style, very strong outlines, etc. Beware, if Ippo catches your interest, it's just like crack. It took me 3 days with very little sleep to start from volume 1 to get to volume 76.

I'm willing to bet that Detective Conan is pretty old too. Almost 60 volumes now and still going.

Isn't that weird? I mean... Hajime no Ippo is serialized in a weekly magazine while Berserk is bi-weekly right? So how come Ippo is more than twice as long as Berserk?

Easy, Kentaro Miura just looooves to takes looong breaks... and that kills me..
But, what to do... as long as he finishes it in his lifetime (and mine)... I'll be happy.

Detective Conan just celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2006.
