Suggesstion:Ecchi/Adult rating

I think that the ecchi rating should be more fine-grained. Ive noticed that the ecchi ranges from maybe having a pantyshot once in the series to actually having sex...So I was thinking that there could be a bar for ecchiness. Not too many levels because that will be hard to determine.
Maybe 3-5 ratings for ecchi, something like none/pantsy/slight nudity/heavy explicit material/hentai (or join 2-3 to one). So a "normal" series would be 1 and hentai 5.
Maybe The same thing could be done for violence , though maybe not as many levels. Then it would be easier to see what ,if you dont want to read everything, to see what you can accept.
And you maybe could it an approxmation. So if you think that it has some nudity but it is so little it could be 2-3 or maybe even 1-3.
Well just a thought. Might be much job to implement it but it would give the possibility to rate a series for what it is and not give a misleading genre.

Aren't the series alread divided into enough genres for the nudity and adult stuff?
We already have:
- Ecchi: Possibly the line between hentai and non-hentai, ecchi usually refers to fanservice put in to attract a certain group of fans.
- Adult: Any sexual contents or mature contents will fall under this category. We shall go with the North America standard, which means upper body of women also count.
- Hentai: Adult sexual content in an illustrated form.
- Mature: Contains subject matter which may be too extreme for people under the age of 17.
- Smut: No Description (And I still don't really know what it supposed to mean, I have a global understanding of the term from surfing internet but that's it)
And there is no need to list here the Yuri/Yaoi because that's another type of differentiation.
IMO, this looks like it's already enough...

Well obviously these series need to be updated...
And there is a difference between showing sex and suggesting that a couple had sex. In the first case, It's obvious the series needs to be updated, in the second I think it's ok.

And let me remind you guys that YOU can update the series. It doesn't have to be admins. (We admins have lives too and can't do everything~) So please, if something's wrong, take the 2 minutes it takes to correct it (actually, it'd probably take less than 1 minute...)

Ecchi is perverted scenes which means they have sexual references.......
Smut is like Ecchi, but on a higher level of perversion.

Well the problem is that some content isnt adult/hentai but its really ecchi...I think the "ecchi" genre tag has to cover too much.

Doesn't really matter to me much. I generalize anything containing overly perversion all to Hentai section. Including Ecchi and Smut.......
To explore this matter further, we must go back to the original meaning to Hentai. I think it means literally "Perversion" from the way the characters are written and the pronunciation is produced. Therefore, Hentai was originally not intended to use as a word for pornographically materials, rather just perverted materials.

WARNING, long reply ahead!
Hmm, well I was adding manga and also when I look up manga and look at the ratings/genre it's put into, I can't tell for sure what exactly qualified as "mature" and what was "adult". I was thinking about it myself. I was thinking that "mature" would be 16+ and "adult" 18+ (17+ would be too close to 16+ otherwise... 😉 ^^😉.
But maybe a link or gasp even more text on the submission page (using a list like above) or having that list handy when looking up a rating/genre would be good. It might make sorting the manga easier, and have people come to a closer agreement on what counts as what. It seems like "yaoi" has been thought to be the same as "shounen ai". Because I saw a person label her YuGiOh video as a "yaoi video" with Kaiba and Joey and there was no sex in it! She only used footage from that anime (not doujinshi photos, which would have made it a yaoi video if the two have been doing 18+ activities). There's a possiblity she was an idiot or hadn't been corrected, but I've seen this mistake happen more than once. Maybe with yaoi or shounen ai there isn't really much difference, but when Shoujomagic released Mister Mermaid and that the manga seemed closer to yaoi (though there was no graphic sex although the audience knew with the "morning after" that they did have sex) people were getting jumpy and requesting the Shoujomagic not do yaoi works (which it has no plans to as Siana has mentioned even if it was a long time ago). ^^' Maybe this is why ratings seem so conservative-minded because although the liberal-minded person that rated approved of it with a "G" rating, the conservative-minded person felt it deserved a "PG" rating. If there's something that isn't suitable for kids, the conservative-minded person would yell at the liberal-minded one for not being cautious enough in the rating.
I don't think even TV really agrees with their ratings. I noticed that the movie End of Days was being shown on a channel in Canada and it was rated 14+, while I thought it deserved 18+, or 16+, but that rating doesn't exist (I've seen movies being broadcasted that got the 18+ rating on this channel and the CBC). Another time I saw the Comedy Network show an episode of South Park and it got 18+. O_o I suppose because of all the (excessive?) swearing...?
Anyhow, I think Manick sort of leaves the door open to people who know nothing about manga to be welcomed with "Manga is the Japanese equivalent of comics with a unique style and following. Join the revolution! Read some manga today!" on the sidebar. 😀 And we can avoid the "what's shoujo?" question, although that sort of makes them a bit less inclined to talk, but when the community is really active, it's like the "help me find manga" question, at least to me. 🤢

I once again agree with stealth. For me ecchi, mature, adult and hentai cover everything.
Ecchi is showing of body parts combined possibly combined with hints and unwilling gropeing touching. love hina style
Mature would be Air Gear for me. Nipples, full nudity, but no intercourse or detailed illustrations of penis/vagina
Adult would cover everything in which sex is shown but is not the main point of the manga. Examples would be EDEN or also Freesia
Hentai is Porn, simple as that.
I confess i am not sure where to pull the line between yaoi shonen ai and yuri shoujo ai.
But if this is a problem i would advise putting somewhat more detailed discriptions for the genres.
I have once or twice changed series from ecchi to hentai. takes about a minute

well since everyone has differing views on what makes up what, maybe the admins could provide some guidelines as to what should be rated as what

Adult: Any sexual contents or mature contents will fall under this category. We shall go with the North America standard, which means upper body of women also count.
I have a bit of a problem with this definition. The upper body nudity threatens to put some mangas that I don't think deserve adult, into the adult section. Such as: Midori no Hibi, Ai Yori Aoshi, Ai Kora, and Tsukuyomi Moon Phase
Heck, Viz only rates MnH as T+, not mature.

Don't quote me on that! it's the site standard from the genre description page.
And the site is using north American standards which I don't think are very good either...
But that's a choice they made and we have to go with it...
