Worst Love Interest

I tend to like the jerks.
In real life they suck but bad boys are SO COOL!
I currently hate the lead in Hana ni Nare.
He's always cheating on the main girl with his girlfriend. (So maybe he's cheating on his gf with the main girl?) and he keeps saying he loves her but he does like jack all for her. Except for when he tried to fly to England, but still. LAME!
Worst female love interest? Anyone from any of Shinju Mayu's works or Rie Takada. 😛

Yup, Shinjo Mayu leads are all terrible love interests.
Actually, some of Mayu's heroines are pretty bad too. Honestly.
And I don't like love interests that are super bland. cough Ultra Maniac's Tetsushi. He was so boring. I kept wishing the manga-ka would just remove him from the story completely.

All smut male leads definitely... they're all molesters or rapists. Just because they're good looking doesn't give them the right to sexually harass people. (men and women alike)
Um....
Zero from Vampire Knight - I know everyone goes into freak out mode for Zero but he has way too many emotional issues. I know girls are obsessed with being the therapist to their boyfriend and helping them find the light but... no. This type of guy will always make you feel guilty no matter what.
Like everyone else, I agree with the sentiments about smut leads, which is a large part of the reason why I don't read smut.
But now that you bring it up, both of the male leads in Vampire Knight are incredibly problematic. Zero for the reasons you state, and Kaname for being one of the most controlling & manipulative leads ever (but doing it all with a smile). Earlier in the manga, he put Yuuki to sleep and altered her memories, and lately, he's had Yuuki essentially imprisoned in their home for the past year, forbidding her to leave the house or have visitors, or make any kind of unsupervised contact with the outside world (she couldn't even write letters to her best friend!), all under the pretext of this being "for her own good." Why was that again? Last I checked, as a pureblood, Yuuki has power over ALL the other vampires and could hold her own if she was in danger. She's not allowed to make a single move without Aidou there to observe her (and report back to Kaname), and in the latest chapter, she got in trouble from Kaname for letting her own cousin into the house while he was gone. Despite the fact that all this is oh so romantic in the manga, in reality, it's a sick (and abusive) way to live.
Feminists could have a field day with this manga.

I think the reason why a lot of shoujo bishounen are jerks is...well...it gives the heroine something to do.
When bishounen are jerks:
- they usually have some kind of tragic past that the heroines need to save them from
- the heroine makes it her goal to make him a better person
- their jerkiness usually gets the heroine involved in some kind of sticky situation that the said heroine would not otherwise find herself in
Basically, its an easy (and sometimes really crappy) plot device.

So true. But I totally hate it. I feel like authors who pull out these little twists to explain why their male leads are royal jerks are LAZY!!!!!

I'd have to say Arina Tanemura's male leads, most of them, anyways. The ones I have big issues with:
Mikado (I.O.N.) - Is only interested in Ion at first because she has psychic powers. And then, practically a week later - he's in love. Oh please, Tanemura. facepalm
Shizumasa (Shinkuro) - Such a friggin' jerk. Not to say that Takanari was benevolent at the beginning, either, but at least he develops and becomes...nicer.
Opposite side of the spectrum:
Shizumasa's/Takanari's/Ushio's/Maora's/Kusame's love interest:
Haine - I hate her fake-optimistic attitude, her tragic past, and her downright mary-sueness (I mean really, all but one of the main characters, two if you count Toya, is in love with her; Oh for the love of-!)
Kaname Kuran (Vampire Knight) - a manpulative bastard, what else can I say to describe how horrible he is?
...
I hate how male leads are just there for the sake of terrible romance, is plot development that unheard of?
That's pretty much it.

The worst I think is the male lead in love monster. I dropped that series very quickly partly because I'm not big on smut in shoujo but also because that guy was just an aweful jerk. (I want to use more powerful language but...)

All the men in Nana. I love Nana, but the only guy to treat any of them women with respect was a spineless coward who wouldn't fight for the woman he loved!
You dislike all the men in Nana o_0! And the guy who "treat any of them women with respect" you mention is Nobuo right?
Well I don't hate any guys in Nana. It is not because they are "cool" or something.... =.= I want to say that they may be good as a friend but not the type you want for a lover! And wiithout a doubt, all of them are mature, except a kind-hearted Nobuo =.=
The male character I like most is Yasu. Yasu is such a capable and loyal friend. I like the way he care about his friends without disturbing their own lives. Shion once said that Yasu is the person who love anyone around him. I totally agree. Isn't it nice to have a friend like that? However his attitude towards Shion and Reira may be quite heartless. He left Shion alone with her unrequited love and accept everything she do for him without feeling guilty. When Reira come to him and cry because Takumi is getting married to Nana Komatsu, he refused to help her, the reason is because he has to take care of Black Stone's members instead. You may think this is no good but I think Yasu is not wrong in that decision. Reira is his ex-girlfriend only. They still keep the normal friendship but is it a bit selfish to cry on your ex-boyfriend's shoulder when you hav a trouble?? I think Reira is a selfish and unreasonable girl. Yasu is not hers anymore! Moreover he also has his own business, his own band's members who are also his long-term good friends.

Takumi from Nana. He's actually a pretty interesting character, but as a love interest, I don't like him at all.
Takumi is a jerk! Yes I agree. I hates the Takumi who fool around so may women. But I like the Takumi who is so capable and reliable. He is able to give his family a good life and being a resposible band leader. I think Takumi does love Nana Komatsu in his own way.^^ I don't like the way Takumi treat Nana Osaki and Reira. He is so full of himself!!! Well about Nana Komatsu who is good-at-nothing, except being a faithful "doggie", getting a husband like Takumi is her luck. When she discover that she is pregnant, she cries like there wil be no tomorrow but she sure is happy when Takumi ask for her hand. Her family is happy too ^_^. They sure are because their shoppaholic daughter already has her long-time suppoter. 😀 . They will not have to send her money anymore.... Sometime I think Naoki is right when he compares Takumi x Nana Komatsu as the womaniser and the money digger ....hahaha

Momo from Kimi wa petto. I can't figure out why I should like him (is it supposed to be for dancing?XD).
😲 🤨
😀 Well, I personally think that Momo is cute. He is the type who can make Sumire feel relaxed. I think loving him is good for your heart 😛 as long as he loves you too.

BestFriend-type guys like Akira in Watashi ni xx Shinasai! and Asaoka from Koukou Debut
And the emotionally unavailable ones like Mori from Ouran Koukou Host Club and Yoh from Koukou Debut (although Haruna balances him out so it seems ok).

Takumi and Shouji from NANA. The main lead in Alice 19th. Consenting to date a girl even though you don't like her just to avoid being mean? And then cheating on the girl with her younger sister? Even with the author's honeyed words, it's still not right.

Touga from Revolutionary Girl Utena. But at least he's mostly supposed to be unlikeable.
I have to say that I love Touga, but I love him because he is such an absolute perfect sh*t, and not just to Utena. He backstabs his 'friend' and what he does to Nanami (my avatar) even she doesn't deserve. However, he very nearly redeems himself (at least in the anime, haven't read the manga).
