This was awesome. It is a turning point for Luffy and I think that it was needed considering this is supposed to be the "halfway point" of the story (eg. Red Line). I think Oda has planned this for a very long time because there needs to be a greater catalyst for Luffy to push him past a certain barrier.

In another sense, he now has something to propel him like all the others. In fact, if you look at all the other characters in his crew, each one has had a major death(s) to change their life (although Sanji's is a bit off as the only deaths that I can see are that of the Chef Crew on that cruise ship).

If somebody has said that there are no deaths in this manga, well, they may just need to reread everything. There has always been death in this manga. That is why they party so hearty after a battle, in celebration of their life as a pirate!

I guess we have to assume haki cancels out logia in a similar way to seastone.
Maybe haki power is like vibrations (same frequency of seastone/the sea, which was
said to cancel out devil fruit powers).

You gotta admit Oda's explanation of magma burning fire was bad though.
Maybe science wasn't his strongest subject...
I am sure he excelled in story-telling and art though. 🤣

Damn it I didn't think he would die but he did. I just wanna hold Luffy because that sucked big time. I can see Luffy changing somewhat after Ace's death but not entirely. I don't think he's the type to be knocked down regardless of what happens...still great chapter and I'm dying for the next weeks.

My heart hurts for Ace and Luffy. I teared up at the end. One Piece definitely is one of the, if not the, greatest manga of all time. Man Luffy going Super Saiyan will be so intense, can't wait till next week. But what a price.

For me, last chapter was worse. Seeing the last few boxes as the papers burns.. Holy crap, I couldn't breathe. But this one.. Seeing everybody's hopes and wishes crushed utterly, hat is the worst part. How many of them sacrificed their lives for Ace, and still he dies in the end. It feels so utterly hopeless..

They really have to kill Luffy now. He had nothing personal against Marines before, not doing more harm than he had to. Now, it got personal. I would be scared like hell if I was a Marine and Luffy manages to get away. And all the rest of the pirates there..

One Piece has drastically changed with a single arc. Power balance, mood, attitude and priorities. With one thing standing out above others.

Luffy should be treated as someone dangerous now. Because he is. Think of him as Kenshin before, only using the blunt side of his sword. That can and will change. They took his brother.

This. Before, Luffy always ended up victorious somehow. Now during the biggest and most meaning arc thus far, Luffy loses big time. It's hard to see how he'll react, but my guess it's safe to say that Sakazuki is a dead man walking.
