I thought there'd be some yuri discussions here, but most of the topics created seem to be centered around BL, which I am not really interested in (。T ω T。)

I’m a woman who loves all well-written romances regardless if they’re heterosexual or homosexual or lesbian. So, I’m a fan of Yuri too. 🙂 We can talk about it whenever you want, especially fantasy, sci-fi, mystery and historical ones as they’re my favorite genres. PS: we can talk about series centered around lesbian romances or what it plays a big role in produced in western countries too, like “Monstress” by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda. 🙂

Same, I like romance regardless of the genders of the MCs.

I end up reading more BL because I don't really like super fanservice-y male-targeted stuff or romance that's only implied where they never actually confess their feelings or get into a relationship, and I mostly read rofan and there's still relatively little GL rofan compared to het and BL, but I do read GL as well (I Love Amy is amazing as long as you're cool with yanderes).

I liked yagakimi and aoihana a lot.

And I'm kind of wanting to read more yuri, but a lot of it feels like it's written for men and isn't very relatable. But when I find something I like, I do enjoy it.

Got any recommendations?

Honestly, I basically like anything well written, hetero or not, romance or not.

So, I like both GL and BL but am picky about which works I like. Vilifying the opposite sex or absence of the opposite sex (both of which amount to situational sexuality — blech), one of a same-sex couple being a surrogate for the opposite sex, or sexuality being forced on either of the couple (also awful in hetero works) are all huge red flags, as far as I'm concerned.

Admittedly, I'm not straight myself, being a tomboyish female ambisexual (what most people call "bi" or, if distracted or mislead by "bi" technically meaning "two," "pan"). This probably makes me a bit of an outlier in multiple ways.

As for GL I enjoy? Lately, I've been reading Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta (which is a "if it's you, it's okay" type, despite the misunderstanding) and Shino to Ren (the way it messes with expectations is fun — can't say I've liked the mangaka's other GL, though, mainly because poly/harem and cheating are just ugh to me). There's also works by NISHI Uko, TAKEMIYA Jin, and Ratana Satis — those three are solid.

That aside, basically all of my favourites are oneshots or short series. I've found more high-quality long BL than GL, and more high-quality short GL than BL — not sure if that's generally true or just my tastes. (If it is generally the case, then maybe it's because culturally men are expected to be horndogs, and women are expected to be prudes — while the opposite extremes are no good either, they're not the general expectation. Thus the BL benefits from the length and the GL from the brevity? That's just an off-hand guess, though.)

Sure.

Recommendations:

  • The Summer You were There
  • Run Away with Me, Girl
  • My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness
  • Girl Friends
  • Goodbye, my Rose Garden

Which works did you have a bad experience with and feel were written for men?

If you want really well written and good GL stories, here some:

Manga:

Makoto no Momoka a really good oneshot, adults characters, if you have other recommendations like this I am interested.

After hours one of my firsts GL story and I have really good memories about it, young adults characters.

Manhua: (wow there are really good chinese works, I swear!)

Tamen de Gushi incredible manhua and so funny, high school students.

My Dear Lass so pretty, so well written, so cool, a must read no joke, young adults, age gap but not disgusting.

My Mom's a Superstar really cool, beautiful art, not that much in romance but sweet!

Manhwa: (pretty rare to find good korean GL, maybe because of the awful society pressures against women AND lgbt?)

Her Tale of Shim Chong good historical and drama story.

There are plenty of female yuri fans and authors out there if you just take a look. My personal favourite author is Hayashiya Shizuru, who if I remember correctly said she writes "what is natural to [her]", meaning she may be an idiot lesbian herself with how stupid and gay her characters turn out to be. I cannot overstate how much love I'm saying that with. I'm dumb and gay too, I get it.

I love yuri and mostly only read that. There's a massive google doc out there on yuri written by women for anyone convinced most yuri is fetishy or male gaze.

My favorite serieses are:

  1. Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon
  2. Run Away with Me Girl
  3. Liberta
  4. I See You Aizawa san
  5. Shoujo Manga Protagonist x Rival-san

Forgot to add Yuri Espoir (my profile pic).

And i also love a lot of one shots.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. (◡‿◡✿) Gonna have lots of reading to do and already did some, the girl friends one is really cute. And honestly think I might have just been unlucky and stupid.

I had a couple of encounters where I found some short 5 chapter or so manga who's name I've forgotten by now. That were honestly kind of just there to pander to gooners. But after having read a little into the recommendations here it seems I was just wrong about the genre, and shouldn't have made assumptions sorry. >~<

I've found a handful of decent GL manhwa.

Fluttering Feelings was discontinued, but you might want to try Living Will. Some of the stories included in 9 Faces of Love are also good GL.

There's a GL subplot to The Antagonist's Pet, one that honestly pulls at your heartstrings. However, it's clearly only a subplot (one of the girls involved is straight and the other swings both ways).

There are a few others on my hope-to-read-eventually list (and your recommendation has been added to it, thank you). Unfortunately, I keep coming across works involving cheating or poly/harem on the part of the leads or situational sexuality. And one case of being completely and totally disturbing (tip: avoid Kill Me Now, unless you have one Hell of a strong stomach and are okay with guardian-ward lover relationships).

However, that seems to be more a combination of my luck and a smaller total number of works, rather than the tendencies of Korean manhwa. As they say, 90% of everything is crap.

I'm picky in that I don't like most yuri. But some of my favs are I Love Amy, No Love Lost Lady, and Best Served Cold. Kakeochi Girl is really good too.
