Why are there so many mangas based on Alice in Wonderland?

Some of those (perhaps about one third of the list) are not about Alice in Wonderland at all. /had to mention that/
Also, there's just as much manga about common fairy tales/children stories, so it's not like they're obsessed with Alice or something.

This. Didn't look through the whole list but if memory serves right, 3 or four of those aren't adaptions of Alice in Wonderland. Looks to me like you just searched "Alice" and added everything that returned a result. O_O

I think it has to do with the fact that Alice in Wonderland is a classic tale--having many fans. I've seen plenty of manga adaptations of other classics as well. And well...it's not just limited to Japan. ._.

Looks like everyone of the titles except maybe 2, that has the world "Alice" in it, is based on Alice in Wonderland to some extent. Not as in an exact adaptation, but with similar characters and settings.

Deadman Wonderland however, I don't think is based on AiW.

Doesn't seem like there are any other classic that has this [u] adaptations? I think there's like 2 or 3 on Little Red Riding Hood.

The fantasy aspect gives magaka's something to work with I suppose.
