There is an Anime, Manga and Japanese soc in my Uni. If I looked hard enough I might find a The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture... All three are quite large but I doubt it would be considered cool/uncool to a member of any of them, mainly due to the fact that most people wouldn't know what they actually do....

Its not as much that manga is lame at my school than it is the people who read them...I don't even like them. They freak me out...and I don't really talk to people who watch dubs...

People are generally surprised when they find out I really love manga/anime.

Manga is not something cool and not something weird in my school. Some people even don't know what manga is in my school. People in my school don't really care if anyone read manga.. 😐 😐

almost all of the comic translated in my country is manga or manhwa(only 1 publisher translate american comics and graphic novels), so yes, people all ages read manga in schools, buses, restaurants, cinemas...

sadly, this made reading manga not a cool thing, just another thing to do...
(it WAS a cool thing tho, before manga boom, we mostly read American Comics, until Dragon Ball sellout...)

now american comics became a rare thing

Hmmm, well as far as I can see in my university..it's no...

People who read manga (like me) are labelled as a geek/childish/blah blah...Yeah, most people think of only Naruto when it comes to Anime/Manga

In my school people dont care as long as its not hentai but almost every body knowns about pokemon, digimon , yugioh and beyblade since they were really popular 5 or 6 years ago (in Quebec,Canada)

But most people in my grade dont read manga (only like 7 people max, on 3 classes of 24~26 with only 2 asians, me being one of them ) and if they do its usually the narushit anime.
🤢
well nobody cares about what you do because were all pretty opended minded.

because as long as you **drink, smoke pot ** (wich i dont 😐 ) and act like a dumbass(wich i sometimes do 😀 ) you are ok.

Definitely now. It's not anywhere, at least anywhere I've ever been, seen, or imagined. If you think it is, you have a warped sense of what is "cool" and what isn't. Only a few people at my school know that I read manga, most of my friends don't know what I know what manga even is.

Sadly, only Naruto and Bleach are being read and referred to as cool in my school

My school has different factions on just about everything, but a good amount of them know about manga considering we have anime convention posters up when they're here.

But it still depends on the crowd and series.

In kinder/1st grade we would 'cosplay' Sailor Moon (I was sailor mars 🙂 )

In high school, there was a group of creepy kids that read manga. I tried talking to them, like in class. shudders Never again.

Now in university, I don't give a damn. If someone wants to say something mean, fine. But they better dodge or they are going to get kicked in the b**** 😀

hmm. well i live in australia, yeah yeah yeah, g'day mate and all that, and in most high schools people still believe that dubbed anime like pokemon and dragon ball z are american cartoons. sad but true, although in my school, probably because 70% of the student body are asian, manga/anime/dramas are HUGE! We have an anime club, people swap anime and manga during class, we have class discussions, we watch it during bludge sessions. our japanese classroom is full of pictures of hot asian guys from hana kimi and kat-tun and all that. even some of the teachers watch it!

It seems to have a fanbase but those kids are creepy so I don't talk to them about it.

Wow... in a way I'm envious of you. Lol. My high school was the stereotypical American school. I wouldn't say manga/anime were frowned upon by everyone. It's just not something the students considered "cool". I hate to admit it, but I tried to hide the fact that I was into anime. Being in college is no different either. Only my closest friends know I like anime while the people I just normally talk to/hang out with has no clue.
