...ouch...But I guess there can be people that are self-sufficient not requiring a friend to share their time with and be close to.

Anyways, CatGrr, are you male or female..? o.O
Please refrain from using strong language..
Is my nick too subtle of a hint? Really?
This at least proves your case.
Also, try to search for the one thing common with people like Hitler, Mao Zedong, Stalin, Charles Manson, Pol Pot, Napoleon and the like. Yeah. Try to give me one example of a man that isn't like that to a lesser extent.
Ehm, me..? o.O Jinx, back me up here.. 😛
So you're saying that women are angels send from god to Earth..? And wth has cat anything to do with gender..? o.O There are both male and female cats.. 🤣 And of course you're female.. >.> That was just a rhetorical question..
Anyways, like Moritana earlier said, I dislike the term 'otaku'.. I always think about a guy/girl who's obsesses with anime/manga..

Well, first of all, I can't find a guy who's just a manga fan of a healthy degree. I've been in an anime/manga convention and its just scary. They're obsessive (both boys AND girls). They know every single detail of every single thing in every single anime.
And in my school...there are only two kinds of male anime fans: those that are obsessed over generic anime like naruto and bleach, and those that watch nothing but hentai. I find them both scary. Where are the people that read stuff like Vagabond or Nana?
Like I said, its really not just men. None of my friends read manga too. As much as I would love someone who I can ask what series I should read next or who can look at my translations for the week and tell me if something sounds off, I just can't find someone who's not too creepy or not too obsessive.

It's clear that Otaku girls don't go for Otaku guys because they've always got guys like me (Casual fans) that are so much more kickass and have lives to go along with the hobby.
I mean, when one begins dating somebody else, it becomes unfaithful for them to fantasize about me while I am out of their reach. But as long as I am just out of their reach and they are not taken, they can fantasize about me all they want! And fantasizing about me totally beats the real deal with a lesser being!
Note: If you're taking the above two paragraphs seriously, shoot yourself now before you kill yourself on accident later, because you're special in connotation only.
I am the God of Freedom. I am not revered, I have no shrines; and you have never before heard of me nor will you ever hear of me again.

lol, well I must agree guys that know how to balance their hobby and life instead of living their hobby are kickass. Are you sure that we should not take those two paragraphs seriously, maybe it is true and you are just being modest 🤣

just thought about it and found some truth in it actually.
There have been a few times when i've turned down offers for a drink from guys (which usually would lead to this and that), because i'm too comfortable sitting at my computer reading manga.
Anyway, the sad part is that none of my friends are interested in manga except a boy couple of years younger, and even he only watches Bleach. =(

It would seem that people are looking for ready packages here.
If you want friends that do like anime and manga, then make them
like it! Suggestion is the power above all.

actually i would find it cool to find a guy who is an otaku. then we'd actually have more than regular conversation subjects to talk about. I don't go looking for them though. Mostly because i'm too busy with my anime and manga ^_-. Anyway I don't have time to be 'looking'.

Wow, it seems like most of you people have got it pretty hard, in terms of the low otaku populations in your area.
Where I live, almost all the guys watch anime, alot of the girls are into shoujo manga (or just Japanese/Korean things in general)...

I'm from the UK (the Midlands to be a little more precise) and the problem around here is one of numbers. Of the people I know who are considered otaku, there is a pretty large 'community' of us that get together, the guys out number the girls about 30/1. With those odds it's inevitable there are going to be alot of guys going home alone.

I'm sure the 2nd bit where this dude goes on about girls wanting his hawt manliness is obviously a joke, but for the first bit, I wasn't sure.
What is being an "otaku", really? Is it just nerdiness for Japanese things? Yeah, but it's also associated with a variety of certain personality traits. People who don't feel empathy, people who don't have any other interests at all, people who are so obsessed with something that it starts negatively affecting their real lives. Things such as human interaction, exercise, gainful employment, and even showers fall by the wayside for some people. That's not a "hobby." It's a way of life. It's a set of kind of creepy and unpleasant personality traits, and people who have those traits show up in every walk of life, from economics to linguistics to art -- it's just that the ones we happen to run into here are of course into anime/manga.
I've had (both male & female) friends in fandom who just stopped talking to me or drifted away when one of us switched fandoms. Some of them were very close--we'd spend hours on the phone, visit one another via airplane, share real life problems... but those friendships still fell apart. It's not that they suddenly disliked me -- it's just that if we didn't have a fandom in common, they had nothing to talk to me about. If I wasn't interested in Fullmetal Alchemist or whatever, it was like I stopped existing. We still like each other, but we drift further and further apart because for them, their interests dictate who they want to talk to and what about.
It's painful enough when it's close friends who turn out to be unable to connect with you without fandom as a crutch; if I had a boyfriend who no longer enjoyed hanging out with me as much because I stopped reading manga or playing WoW or something, it would hurt much worse. Obviously most people want to date someone interesting who likes the same things, but that's not the same as only liking someone BECAUSE they like the same things as you. Therefore I look for guys who it seems like this won't happen with -- guys who like things I like but who also have other friends, other interests, and other reasons to love me.

My last two girlfriends were otaku. And let me tell you that anime and manga were part of our talks but not the only thing. We watched anime together but not much.
I mean, if I have a girlfriend I don't want to watch TV with her. I ratter go out, talk to her, kiss, hug or anything but watch TV all day. The same with movies, we tried to wath V for Vendetta. We only watched the first and last 15 minutes.
And also, I don't go for women who like anime exclusively. If they like it that gets them some points but if they don't, no problem.
