what is this otaku community you people talk about?
....maybe its just nonexistent where i live (arizona) but the only time i have ever even seen manga in print was when i saw some nerdy greasy-haired guy in his late 20's reading at chipotle...i wouldnt call myself an otaku by any means, but i think it would be extremely interesting to have an otaku/nerdy girlfriend yet i cant seem to find them anywhere.... where are they hiding? seriously
That's exactly how I feel. Where in AZ do you live? Because I've seen girl otaku before. I've seen them at the mall at the Barnes and Noble (with the huge manga section) and at the library. There's usually at least one other person there when I go there to lounge and read. But it's usually not a guy 🙁 . Girls seem to outnumber the guy otakus here. And the otaku guys I do meet here in AZ are either only reading porn manga, already taken, or just not interested.

arizonian here too!!!
the only otakus i've seen around are these WEIRDOs who hang out in the darkest hallways. i tried to talking to one who was in my class. ...never again...but yeah, any guy i've found who likes manga is usually creepy. i would love to find one who isn't though hahaha

Lol. Which reminds me of my otaku friend wearing this White messy hair wig and cosplaying as Near (Deathnote) in a Shopping Mall..it's not even a cosplay event.
Has he no shame?

Pfft, interesting topic, may I jump in?
I am a self confessed otaku, and I like the fact that my boyfriend likes anime (mostly mainstream adventure shounen types) but he isn't very in to anime and manga like I am. When I ask him to watch anime with me he doesn't want to. He only watches dubbed anime from channels like Animax. But I prefer to watch fansubbed anime, because I like to hear the voices in Japanese. (yeah I'm weird)
I could say he isn't a hardcore otaku like me. But when I first met him, I didn't actually know that he likes anime and manga. So I guess that's a plus in our relationship. Oh, and another thing is that I have this "know-it-all" attitude where I always like to be the one correct whenever we have discussions about anime. And yeah, I'm always right. But if he is in to anime and manga like I am, I guess we would fight all the time. LOL
But if I haven't met him, and met this very interesting otaku guy, hey why not? It's fun to watch anime and read manga together 😛

don't worry you are not weird. there are many people here who hate dubs like me.
...
and for your bf you are really lucky^_^ i mean even if he is not hardcore otaku he at least knows what anime/manga is.

Same here. I honestly don't know too many guys at my school who like anime/manga... and the ones I know like it tend to be of the pervert variety... I always try and do my best to steer clear of them and their big-breasted hentai discussions... 😐 But if I could actually find a nice guy that reads manga for more than just panty-shots, then things would most likely be different.

...With this alone, I have gone too far. 😐
