I don't hate any demographic or genre, because within each there are good and bad stories.

I don't hate it, I just dislike that most of it follows the same formula without being somewhat fresh. AND BARELY ANYONE IN JAPAN SEEMS TO NOTICE IT AT ALL. It's like they're scared of originality over there or something...

I don't hate this demographic because once in a while I can find good stuff in it. Seinen is not a guarantee that a manga is going to be good. I'd read a shounen that can hold my interest rather than a pointless or over the top seinen any day.

You do have a point. They don't notice because most people in Japan only follow a few serieses, I guess, unlike us who read thousands of titles just to come to a conclusion like yours. They probably follow the titles just because they like the characters, which can't be offered by other titles no matter how similar their formula is. And they don't care about the formula at all.

Only if they get too formulaish. Like OP and DBZ. biggrin cool

Everything that is formulated is so because of Dragon Ball. If something sets a precedent, it is not part of the ensuing conformity.

I agree but DB kinda killed itself with it's own formula. The 12 1st volumes were epic, then it went slowly down the drain. biggrin cool

I always feel that a lot of shounen starts off well an then slowly begins to stagnate until every character gradually is shown to be capable of overcome difficult odds if the work hard and never give up.

It's a shame too because some great characters are totally ruined.
Bleach is a great example with Orihime being this bubbly ditz in the early volumes, now she's just a busty Ichigo clone.

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

Shounen, like Shoujo manga tends to stray in the same direction. Naruto, Bleach, ect.

A shounen series I'm really fond of however would be Katekyo Hitman Reborn.

I usually find shounen series boring, but this manga is far from it. biggrin

i like shounen. there is a lot more variety in it then say shoujo (at least i think) so there will always be something original and interesting if you look hard enough

edit: i didnt mention it but everyone else did. at least 65% of shounen manga is cliche

Just wanted to say this ummm.... this post was basically impulse when I wrote it. It was during a time that every single person was taken over by Naruto and Bleach at my past school and I basically started this rant from that. So now that I look back on it it was a very stupid post. But, to this day I rarely read shounen and I like to think that seinen . And like someone said in the past this should have been do you hate shounen cliches.

Am I the only one on this site who hasn't read/watched Bleach/Naruto? Maybe I am just too old and they don't belong to my generation. lol They are also too long and didn't sound interesting to me.

Saying you hate shounen is like saying you hate shoujo. They're just such a broad category that you can't really hate it. Just like how there are some action packed shoujos, there are also some pretty romantic shounens.

Shounen isn't a genre, it's a demograph. So you can't really hate shounen, because it's not one cookie-cutter type of manga.
