Due to discussion with other moderators, this thread will remain open.
I will say, though, that the concept of this thread is quite pedantic.

I think they're might even be female-aimed Shounen like Reborn and D. Grayman. Just look at the Doujinshis, and you'll get what I mean. D:
Which is funny, because they are both written by females. Or people of ambiguous/unknown gender.
As for me, I rarely read shounen at all. Unless it is good, like One Piece or Reborn, and Tsubasa RESERVoir Chronicle (Which I hardly consider shounen.)
I tried Naruto and Bleach, and I'll read it if I am bored, but I haven't really felt motivated to keep up with them. And most other series I find just completely stupid/not worth my time.

I generally will really like a shounen series so long as it has no harems, and I can stand the main character.
I hate generic good guy main characters, idiot main characters, and total loser who is somehow important main characters.
Usually if it has one of those I won't enjoy it. Unless it's stuffed full of fanservice. Then I'll start to care less. Or if there are enough appealing supporting characters to let me overlook the lead.
My favorite shounen tend to be ones with female leads, like Claymore or Kurohime.
personally i don't like to compare anime/manga to western comics, cuz i hate western comics but that's just me. .___.

I don't remember ever hating a shounen before...a little bored maybe but nothing other than that.I'd go for the longer shounen titles so I can keep myself entertained as well as kill loads of time. Most probably if someone hates shounen it could be that the person is old...thirties?or just simply not in the targeted age group since the the term "sho" suggests it to be for young teens(boys mainly)

Hate shonen ?? NO WAY!
How can one hate an entire demographic (save for yaoi and yuri [if they count])?Anyways, all for the shonen mangas. Actually, all for any manga; just show me a great plot, great characters, good art (okay, well when it comes to shonen, I frankly don't care about the art very much >.>, it's just a bonus), and I will read.
And just to wonder, for those who don't like shonen-ai, does that mean you exclude series' like X-1999 - Tokyo Babylon (both CLAMP titles), Count Cain - Boys Next Door (both Kaori Yuki), Let Dai, etc - since they have or imply it? Or is it if it's the main plot for the story? Just wondering...
I guess that for every genre, there are good manga and bad manga. There are probably even good yaoi and yuris out there...as for shounen-ai, implied is okay for me. But I don't like having it as the main storyline.

The only reason to hate MOST shounen is how they tend to revert back to the generic plot that EVERYONE except New Manga readers and kids hate. Original ideas are now thing of the past and good plots only exist in the first few chapters

Why hate shounen when that genre get you to like anime in the first place, well at least for guys. I can see you guys hating a few series but hating the genre is absurd.

Geez I think u guys are being a bit too hard on shounen. I mean sure many of them have repetitive stereotypical plots, but you have to remember that many shounen are aimed at little kids. I mean are you going to berate Sponge Bob for having a repetitive plot? Then why hate on Naurto? I personally like shounen it's entertaining, what more do i need? 😀

I cant believe that you will relate Sponge Bob to Naruto because there is noting a like that's like relating Watchman to Zetman it cant be done they are nothing a like. And shounen isn't really aimed at so young kids its more aimed at 14 or so not like 5 years old.

speaking of spongebob and naruto......anybody ever followed that show avatar, i had saw one episode on thanksgiving like 2-3 years ago......that shit seemed just like Naruto, i thought it was an anime for a hot minute till somebody told me it wasn't
but back on topic....i guess the main reason i hate shounen, or atleast tend to dislike shounen, is becasue the most popular shounen are normally not the best or even some of the great ones, ya know?
it's like why's it all about bleach and not about Ippo, or all about Naruto and not about Beck?, you feel me?, but yeah that just pisses me off
so it's more that i don't like actual shounens then shounen manga.....

I've always understood shounen manga to have a targeted demographic of 10-17 year olds with seinen aimed at people between 18 and 30 years of age (with roughly the same ranges for shoujo and josei). There are specific children's manga aimed at children under ten. I honestly don't think your average 7 year old would really even understand most of the plot to Naruto. Unless it's anime filler episode, then they'll be fine.
