This is something about which I have been curious for a long time, so I decided to create a poll. Maybe there's something like it already, but I couldn't find one.

I myself would go with no. 7 ; I there is only a handful of romance manga in my (rather large) lists.

Please note that 'romance' refers only to heterosexual romance. I am not considering hentai, BL, GL, shotacon or lolicon under this criterion.

If the option you want is not here, then don't bother to criticize me. No one is forcing you to vote.
Please don't argue with others. If you're going to comment on someone's post, do so politely and in an unoffensive manner.

Well- go ahead and vote- I can't wait to see the results!

Uh oh. You've opened the floodgates of arguments with this. 🤣

Anyway, I chose the male option with reading 20% or less cause I rarely find any romance manga that's worth reading. Usually the ones I find have a main character that has a death grip on the Idiot Ball, so I end up dropping it after a few chapters.

Most of the mangas I read have some romance in it and i also enjoy reading mangas focusing completely on romance. Romance is awesome if done the right way. It adds angst and creates an opportunity for heartbreaking or emotional scenes in mangas and the mangakas know this lol. For me a manga feels more awesome if there is some romance in there. This fact is exploited so much. Romance can sometimes also ruin a manga if there are love ploygons and stuff happening in a shounen or seinen manga. Like in Naruto, lol so many people are concerned about who Naruto ends up with, and whether Sakura will ever like him etc. It also features a love square and really is just not good but well just shows the power of romance.

About 90% of the manga I read contains romance. I love romance mangas (especially in shoujo) because I'm an romantic at heart and I love the tension in what will happen to couples in mangas. I only read non-romance mangas if they interest me.

I read romance mangas maybe like 50% of the time. The other 50% is spent on reading action/suspense titles to wash off the superficiality of some shoujo mangas I read.

It's interesting that there aren't options for those that read between 20% and 60% romance titles.

On my reading and completed lists, 40.9% of my titles have the romance genre.
With all my lists minus the unfinished list, I have 38.6% romance titles to my name.

So, I'll vote when a 20-60% option shows up.

Option 7 for me, too. But I think you and I are gonna be the only ones. 😃

But I'm surprised that there are still no votes for the last option. I can't believe that there are no guys who (almost) never read romance. None of the guys I know would be caught dead reading a love story; but then again, I don't know a lot of guys- just my brother and his friends 🤣 Maybe that's just because they're unusual.

True. You're gonna lose some votes because of that.

@cyclamen
I think the reason is that girls who almost never read (straight) romance can still read a lot of yaoi, while the ecchi mangas read by guys almost all contain the romance tag.

You seem to have hit the nail right on the head.
However, I can assure you that I have never read yaoi in my life, and I never will. I read maybe 4 or 5 shounen-ai; but the same principle applies to me with BL as it does with straight romance. I will only read it if the plot is extremely interesting. I don't read manga for their sex appeal, I read them for their story. And judging by cyclamen's lists, she's no BL fan either.

On another note- cyclamen; you and I are really two-of-a-kind! I can't believe that there's another girl besides me who is neither a romance fan, nor a yaoi fangirl. 😀

You sure have calculated accurately! I never expected someone to be so precise.
I'm sorry- it was my mistake for not including an intermediate option. I can't change the poll now, so I guess you won't be able to vote. My bad! 😐

It's alright; however, moderators (such as NightSwan) can change polls by fixing them or adding to them if you ask.

Also, double posting is not allowed... just to let you know.

I m a man and i read almost only manga with romance in it. Why ? I find that the relationship between characters is the most interesting in manga (but i m not a big fan of shojo strangely =))
But even in no-romance manga, i m always searching romance =) (or even in hentai xD)
And i think it's hard to find manga without any romance...

So hentai/ lolicon/ shotacon does not classify under hetrosexual romance? 😕
Also, what's wrong with hentai? There's quite a bit of romance happening in most of 'em :\

Anyways, I voted over 60%
...though now that I think about it, I should've voted over 90%
What can I say? I'm a sucker for romance 😀

Well... I'm not really sure (as in some seem to have romance, but... it's not really a big deal in the manga) So, seeing as I don't really like romance all that much, I'll choose option 7. 😃

Errrr... I haven't really thought about this but a fair amount of the stuff I read contains romance. I suppose...

shrugs Then again, I don't really care about gender stereotypes, social norms anyways... soo... I just read manga for the story, the "relations" among 2 or more humans and if there is romance, so be it. 🙂

And what is this survey about, actually? Are you trying to figure out who reads heterosexual romance stories or are you trying to insinuate something about intersexuals, transsexuals, gays and lesbians? 😕 If the former, perhaps there might've been a better way of phrasing the question. If the latter, ah well... nothing to say. 🙂

Btw, I don't think my answer falls under any of these... lol.

Edit: I'm female, btw.

40% of my manga contain romance, therefore I can't vote in this poll.

And well, it's not like I ever actively look for romance, nor are all those manga purely romance, it might just be a small part of it, you know how it is with Shounen romance.
