Hi,
I am looking for borderline H or smut with a good story and drawn more in the sienen/ shounen style. Something along the lines of velvet kiss, nozoki ana, cross and crime, nana to kaoru, etc.

I guess I am looking for slice of life, romance, heartache, a bit of comedy, a bit of danger, along with borderline h/smuttiness.

I really really liked velvet kiss and nozoki ana. I don't really like yaoi/yuri. If you are a fan of this style of manga whats your all time favorite? Thanks

Maybe something like Nana to Kaoru?

Have you read the other works by the mangakas of the ones you mentioned? Things like Happy Negative Marriage or Koi wo Suru no ga Shigoto desu?

Yeah, nana to kaoru is right in the lane of what I am talking about. Happy negative marriage is good too. Koi wo suru i thought was too much comedy not enough angst. I also liked hentakoi. I like the art to be more like Harumi chihiro than Amazume ryuta.

I have been trying other manga by the same authors. Thats one of the things i love about this website. I guess what Im hoping to get is more authors?

I also can't get enough of borderline H seinen. If you haven't done so yet, you may want to check out stuff by Kitazaki Taku for starters.

Sundome is also good (I have yet to read the final volume, though); Yen Press also released all eight volumes in english so you can grab the tanks if you want.

Kono S o, mi yo!
Yomeiro Choice may be too comedic (or loli) for your tastes
Koe de Oshigoto!
Oretama
Koibana Onsen (almost no story, all smut)
Haru yo, Koi
KissxSis (twincest is always fun)

No, not like those(lighthearted comedies with degrees of echiness) I mean i read and enjoy those too. But what i am looking for in this thread is good complicated romantic story where there may some doubt, guilt, sundere, anger, loneliness, things that tug at your heartstrings. The smut and borderline H are not crucial but are often part of the package. Its hard to explain, its more like a vibe i guess, the closest i can describe it is josei story with seinen art. (i dont like the josei art, tall skiny characters and feminine looking male leads).

Sundome, nana to kaoru, happy negative marriage have the right vibe but the art is a little ugly.
Velvet kiss, hentakoi, nozoki ana, cross and crime hit what i am looking for more squarely on the head. Most of the other stuff in this thread just misses the vibe.

I just started ao haru ride, looks promising.

Kitazaki Taku's recent stuff definitely has what you are looking for then. I believe it was his Sakuranbo Syndrome that got me started in this genre. Ore x Yome is a good teaser for his works.

Sunder's suggestion of Haru yo, Koi also fits the bill, though it can be a bit annoying to read. And it does have a yuri subplot.

IMO, Cross and Crime is a bit extreme compared to the other stuff mentioned here. It pretty much already has NTR undertones.

Aki-Sora might be worth considering. Good art, good seinen story, borderline h. Meets a good number of your requirements I believe

You should check out Solaris-SVU. They got some good stuff. Personally I recommend Virgin na Kankei, Virgin na Kankei R, and Yuria 100 Shiki (all the random situations are hilarious).

I hadnt read honeymoon salad. 3 chapters in, its not bad, i like the characters. Thanks!

Also, its true cross and crime is a little extreme, it gets a pretty ugly (mostly that one scene in the beginning) but the main female characters feelings really come across. I will check out more of these suggestions. big thumbs up.

update: i really like this honeymoon salad manga. The art is a little old fashioned for my taste but i really enjoy the characters! why is it that manga drawn before 2001 and after 2001 have such different styles? I prefer the newer stuff, even when its the same author.

I don't think that's really a rule and simply more of a coincidence. It depends more on when the author finally establishes his or her style. In the case of Ninomiya Hikaru that's simply her style. In fact, her latter work "...Gokko" (2009) seems to be even less detailed than Honeymoon Salad.

After finishing Honeymoon Salad, be sure to read the prequel Baby Leaf. It details Minori and Youko's past relationship so it helps you understand the main story better. And it was released in 2003, so you can see what I mean about Ninomiya Hikaru's style. 😉
