Wasn't this already a closed issue? I swear we reached a general consensus on this months, no, over a year ago.

NightSwan also said that she wanted to peg me, once, but I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or a threat...

I have no problem with 10 votes, the aim for manga is to be a 9.5, 9.6, 9.7, 9.8, 9.9 or even a 10. Since most people don't use the 9. system it means that anything 9.5 or higher is a 10. Making it ~0.3-0.7% of all manga or some such to me. Then I don't read very badly rated manga, bringing that figure up quite a bit to around 1% or so...
Since the goal of manga is to make it good it doesn't follow that anything published is a 1, what I could draw would most likely be above a 1.4999... (lowest that can be rounded down). Not to mention what actually gets published. Especially since they cut down what titles are allowed on the site to exclude the category that most commonly have bad titles.
But as stated it is subjective, I don't think there has been a single manga published that is under 1.5, a kindergarten student couldn't create something so bad unless they tried to.
(Since my other thread got locked and I was linked here.)

Hm too many opinions and too many seems just right.
I personally never give out 1 point ratings, I simply kick it out of my reading list. On the other side I very often give out 10 points ratings, even if there is only one chapter out so far, of course you have perhaps (why isn't there a good translation for "unter Umständen"?) to adjust your rating.

Goal? Yes, usually people want to succeed and make money. But if it turns out to be crappy, then it will be crappy regardless of intention.
As you have also stated, it is subjective. Therefore, not everyone uses the same standards as you so people do vote for whatever option they feel most deserving of the title regardless of other people's own personal scoring criteria.
I thought this died ages ago, someone lock this since it doesn't do a thing to help the site and it's purely a personal option that greatly differs from one to another. Unless there's some serious series bashing by people spamming 1-ratings, then there's a need to contact an admin or moderator and tell them about it.
Otherwise, it's other people's freakin opinion, you have yours and they have theirs. Don't like it? Then go vote higher and offset it then >:-(

I recalled something else as well, but didn't find it in a quick overview so might have been my faulty memory.

It is rare for me to give a 10 or a 1 to a series, because, by nature, those are simply difficult scores to earn--I don't give scores like that lightly. And when I do give something a 10 or a 1, I mean it, and I have good reason. I don't want my vote being discounted because of others' foolishness.

10s are given too liberally. There are probably only one or two manga in existence that are absolutely perfect for your personal taste, so 10s should be reserved for the jawdroppingly brilliant, best-manga-you've-read-by-a-long-shot category. I think people start off voting for the series that got them hooked on manga, then dont bother changing their rating once they realise there's much better series out there in the same genre.
There are manga out there that deserve a 1.. but why someone would read enough of a 1-star manga to be able to rate it fairly is beyond me, by definition it's too bad to read without smashing your computer screen. I guess things get 1 scores because people have put time into reading a series and then it's annoyed them, which is the kind of thing its good to know 🤣
I think the amount of 10s balance the stats
since people are equally capable of rating
bad and good hastily. Of course there's stuff that
is plain awesome like Yotsuba& and stuff that plain
sucks balls like Air Gear.

maybe have a system where we gotta prove to the mods we're intelligent before we gain the right to vote?

i havent read all of the above recommendations, but wouldnt one solution be to rate serie based on different properties, like
#/10 for art
#/10 for story
#/10 for characters
#/10 for originality
#/40 totalof course it would be better to have it out of 50 so it would be easy to get a percentage...
this system would result in "impulse" votes (e.g someone read one chapter and thought it was bad, so voted it as a 1) because it would require too much effort. it would also help people see why the series was rated low/high.
Can be abused just as easily as the current system

You're giving people more work to do...and even if you do prove yourself capable, someone, somewhere will still give 1s and 10s too easily.
