Hayate The Combat Butler Question(Viz media version)

Has Viz finally adopted the Japanese way of saying names with -san,-chan, etc. like Del Rey manga? I just am asking because I noticed while skimming through the first vol of Hayate The Combat Butler I saw in their Maria saying Hayate Ayasaki-kun and I saw ojou-sama in there. Where as in all their other mangas they don't use honorifics. So does anyone know if they are using them now and also is it continually used in the first vol(only read 2 pages) or was just implemented for no reason at all.

Viz practically never does this.

They have used Japanese honorifics in both volumes out so far (which I happen to own.)
The only thing Viz isn't doing right with Hayate is not explaining all these references to other things that most people would not get unlike the scanlations.

i own vol. 1 and 2 as well 😛
actually they're NOT explaining them, volume 2's page 121 would be kinda confusing when the star fish is shown all of a sudden without the explanation.
So, for now might as well get both scanlations and the actual release, both good ot have really.

That and as per usual with American manga, we get jipped on the color pages. Pity, Hayate has some good ones too 😢

Still you got to admit that there translations is pretty accurate to the japanese ones. I own the japanese ones and bought the englishs volumes 1+2 and it seems they are doing a good job too. Also are they gonna add suffixes to their names from now on like DELREY?

oh well the explanations aren't a big deal, but yeah I guess it could be confusing. Though I hope they keep up with the honorifics with all the other mangas they do and not just Hayate. Also the first volume of Shakugan no Shana is coming out soon.

Woah, so color pages are magazine exclusives? That's nuts!
So, you almost could say ("<" here means "less-great than")... US tankubons < JP tankubons (fewer errors) < JP magazines (more color pages) < Fan Scanlations (cleaned color pages)
Although this is obviously wrong... right?

Color pages are not exclusive to magazine scans. It just depends on if the publisher wants to waste money to put up color pages. I own Galaxy Angel and Galaxy Angel Beta from Brocoli Books and they contain color pages.

Hayate has an incredible number of references in each chapter. We try to make notes on all of them, but inevitably we'll miss a few.
For example, in just the last chapter we scanlated (ch. 50), there were references to:
- Titanic
- Death Note
- Genshiken
- Moeyo Pen
- the Hanshin Tigers
- Gundam 0083
- Die Hard
And those were the ones we caught. It's a pity that the official translation does not explain these references. It's one thing to have a joke explained, but these are references to popular culture and otaku fandom in Japan. Even native Japanese speakers have difficulty understanding all of them.

I missed the Death Note reference...
Where was that? I even re-read the chapter a couple of time to make sure... most of the others where obvious, (Either I noticed them naturally or they where clearly explained with a note) but not this one... 😕
Was it that obvious?
