lol... lame topic title title but I seriously can't think of a better one right now...very tired.

I was wondering if I could have a recommendation for a romance where the main protagonists seriously have to struggle ALOT because of some factor in their relationship. . An example, Koi Kaze - both the main couple are brother and sister, and really have to struggle with this fact. Another one would be be I.S, which portrays intersexual people and the daily struggles they have in relationships. Even something like bitter virgin would qualify because of the main protagonists traumatic past.

It would also be great if the romance was something frowned on by society. This also brings an interesting facet in a struggling romance, although it dosen't have to be there.

The examples up above are only a few instances of what I am talking about. However, I'm not just looking for those, in this instance I'm up for practically anything, whether it be shoujo, shounen, josei, seinen, shounen-ai, yaoi etc (excluding hentai, shota and lolicon, of course : ) ).

erk... I guess that means a REALLY broad range of suggestions. But basically, I don't mind what it is so long as the couple struggle because of some deep and meaningful reason (not just because one character feels insecure about their relationship 😀 ) .

I suggest making your lists public or listing in your initial post what romances you've read so that we won't give recommendations to series you've already read.

Anywho, some romances I recommend that fit the criteria:
Hoshi no Koe --> Long distance relationship taken to an extreme
Basilisk --> respective clans are literally at war with each other
Emma --> upper class guy, lower class girl

Second hoshi no koe - amazing..

Tsumi Ni Nureta Futari - brother x sister.. Haven't read much of it, but they fall in love and later they find out they are sibilings~ (all in the same volume, I think~)... So, now they need to make it work somehow.

Model Maybe? Vamp and a woman... A manhwa.. Both are pretty messed up, she's struggling with emotions and what not... Maybe you've read that^

Demian Syndrome shounen-ai. I think it's underrated... It's really good, and maybe fits what you're looking for.

Mars- really doubt you haven't read that one.. I love Mars..^^

REC - Guy lives together with his famous, seiyu girlfriend, but they have to keep it under the public radar.

Saikano - Guy starts dating girl on a whim, starts to fall deeper in love with her after she is turned into a war machine, and has to keep it from everybody else while she starts to become more and more inhuman.

I third Hoshi no Koe. It's mech, it's short, and the 2 main characters are only seen together at the beginning, but it tells a beautiful story of long distance love.

Angel Sanctuary - Not only are they brother and sister and being rejected by their mother but get caught up in a heavenly war as well. Very good manga, great artwork and very difficult romance.

Ayashi no Ceres - Such a complicated plot I don't want to spoil anything but it is good and I think suits the title of difficult romance.

The pen is mightier than the sword...and considerably easier to write with.
