Hey guys, I'm looking for something similar with Kami-sama ga Uso o Tsuku, Gold Rush 21, Shiroi Kumo, Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan, Yunagi no Machi Sakura no Kuni, or even River's Edge. Maybe something seinen-ish or josei-ish that deals with heavy issues with soft tones and a bit dose of innocence, and isn't heavy with philosophy or idealism. No more than 2 vols please. Thank you for your recommendation 🙂

There are a lot of good recommendations already, Solanin and Hoshi no Koe in particular, but let me still add my two cents. Here are several fitting titles from your wish list:

ASANO Inio's Umibe no Onnanoko
Looks very bleak at first but the innocence will come in when you least expect it.

Sickness Unto Death by ASADA Hikari/ SEGUCHI Takahiro
Solidly told low-key drama about the human psyche. Not as deep as it seems but it still makes for a decent read.

TOUDA Yoshimi's 49
Short series about what it means to outlive someone you hold dear and about the process of mourning. Unexpectedly well-handled for a Shoujo.

Yawarakai Kara and other short stories by OKAZAKI Mari (e.g. Bathroom Guuwa, Shutter Love, Tomodachi Ijou)
Realistic slice-of-life stories with visually and literarily poignant narration. Very Josei-ish.

KAWACHI Haruka's Chiruhi
Thought-provoking Seinen one-shots with a bittersweet touch. Set in the Edo period.

Aside from the titles suggested above, I strongly recommend the following ones:

Made in Heaven by SAKURAI Ami and YASHIKI Yukari
Set in a not so distant future, this manga tells a certain couple's story from both perspectives and in spite of their harsh surroundings, it manages to offer an very humane conclusion. Slow build-up, emotional second hald.

TAKAO Shigeru's Slop Mansion ni Okaeri
Subtly staged, warm, yet heart-wrenching collection of one-shots.

Yaneura no Majo by ISOYA Yuki
A merry-go-around with four young women at its centre. Follow them as they struggle, ponder and grow in their quest for womanhood.
