Emo

I just recently had some memories resurface from after my dad died, and I think I was some sort of proto-emo. Except I wasn't stupid enough to hurt myself in ways that people would take notice, therefore reinforcing the idea that what I'm doing is cool. On second thought it may have just been depression.
Whatever you do, don't knock your head against a wall for hours at a time. Eventually, it'll feel soothing, but it comes with massive headaches and possible memory loss. Ah well, no cuts for me is all I'm saying. 😃

I have no idea... People who dress in black?... ALL black?....
It makes ma laugh though. The whole thing of "having a statment" by wearing black clothes... They want to be different, but than so many people do the same... Not really effective. ~
people that dress that way to be different make me lol
Same as those damn'd ICP fanz

Emo's want pity. So they openly complain about problems. Most f which aren't even worth batting an eye at. Also cutting themselves makes it look like there problems are much more serious, or they just are into the pain thing. 🙄

Emo= People who hurt themselves physically is what I define emo. It can also describe a person's appearance/style.

emo is a subgenre of hardcore punk rock that started during the 80's hardcore scene. the genre has gone through 3 revivals or waves, the first wave being when it stared in the 80s with bands like husker du and fugazi i guess. second wave emo occured in the 90's with jimmy eat world and weezer. 3rd wave emo is the current wave for the genre and the music sounds completely different than the previous two waves though one can still hear the hardcore roots. 3rd wave emo started unfortunately in my home state of new jersey probably in the late 90's and i guess the main stream music industry decided to use it as its new cash cow and thats how it became so popular, cause i doubt many people heard of the genre before my chemical romance got big. emo stands for emotional hardcore since its hardcore music where the lyrics tend to be about how the band is depressed over something.
for those who tl;dr, its a crap music genre for kids who like to shop at hot topic

You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about this - can you explain to me, then, the difference between emo and shoe-gazer? I know there's a difference and I'm pretty sure that shoe-gazer is closer to grunge but I've heard early Wheezer be called shoe-gazer before and I wasn't sure if it was just a mislabel or what.
