Questionable Art..... Good Story

So, what I am asking for is some manga/mangaka that may not have the best art, but the stories make up for it. I know this is kinda weird to ask because everyone has their own art preferences. Anyway, anything that you can think of that you may have put off because of the art but then read it because you had nothing else to read and realized that the story was great. This can even include cover art that may not be good but the inside art is okay. Here are some examples of what I mean...
Not so Bad ~ The cover art looked bad so I didn't want to read it but then I did and the art truly wasn't THAT bad
Complex ~ I put off reading this one because it was an older manga, but then read it and it is one of my top 10's.
SHOOWA ~ It took me a while to look into her manga because I knew she had a 'sketchy art style'... when I actually read her manga I noticed that I really liked her art style and I LOVE her stories... she is now my #3 fav mangaka.
The only think that I ask is for no shota to be recommended... I am open for anything else.
Umm, well for me personally that was the case with FUJISAKI Kou's works. The art looks sketchy but her stories are go

I dunno if most people think this, but I always considered Antique bakery to be REALLY bad in that category. But I also love it just for the food and the MUSTACHE! xD
Fake has REALLY bad artwork, but the story is cute, and the art gets a but better as it goes on.
Both r shounen ai, much to my disliking >:c ( I WANTED YAOIIII!! >:0)
They also both have anime series, with even worse art, but I still love them :3

The first who comes to mind is Yamada Yugi.
When I initially came across her work, I couldn't bear the art.
But the stories more than make up for it. I haven't read anything by her in a while and I'm not sure how much (if at all) better it gets, but like I said, her stories are worth it.
In the end, I even grew fond of it, mostly because of how I liked the stories.
Takaguchi Satosumi's stories are very good, if you like drama and multi-volume reads.
Her art is simple, kinda plain, but her stories are really well plotted and have a lot of build up.
I especially recommend Sakende Yaruze! and Yononaka wa Bokura ni Amai which is unfortunately not completely scanlated.
Mizushiro Setona is another example of story over art.
Her style takes getting used to, but it's gotten much better over the years.
Kyuuso wa Cheese no Yume o Miru and the sequel are so good.
She has some very good non-yaoi works, as well.
Naono Bohra is one I'm conflicted about adding to the list. Her earlier stories had weaker, messier art, but had much better plots and grittier scenes. I couldn't stand her when I started, but now I like it very much. She's prone to excessive smut and un-orthodox couples. She's fun and has some great supernatural stories.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

Yeah! I have a lot of manga on my wish list from Yamada Yugi, but the art makes me skeptical about reading them. Since you say the stories are good I will be sure to begin reading them. Thanks much, Nightswan!~ I will also try out the other authors you suggested 🙂
@Elvalight ~ I am not all too fond of shounen-ai either, however there are a couple that I have read that I really enjoyed. I have come across Fake a few times but yeah... that is another one where the art makes me unsure if I should read it. Since you say it is good, I will check it out! Thanks 🙂
@AngelCharms ~ I also like FUJISAKI Kou's manga! ^.^
Anyone else have anymore?

YAMADA Yugi is also the first I thought of. Her characters have stick-out ears and wonky mouths, but her stories soon make you forget that. One of my favorites is the main story in Dare ga Omae wo Suki dato Itta, which has to my mind a very erotic clothes-on scene; the rest of the stories are good, too. Seinen 14 Sai is very funny, but the boys are only 14.
1-en no Otoko - I didn't see this on your list. The art sort-of reminds me of both Yamada-sensei and MOTONI Modoru. It sees to me more seinen-like than yaoi. But the stories are great.
ENJIN Yamimaru - I didn't see any of her work on your list, but to me the art is very good. My favorite titles are Tengoku e Ikebaii, I Can't Even Breathe Without You, and Voice or Noise.
These are already on your list, but I'll list them for anyone else. I initially resisted the art because the covers put me off, but found the body of the work to be some of my favorites:
ABE Akane - Ubawareru Koto Marugoto Zenbu, sequel Suki Toiunoni Nazekashira, and unrelated Ai no Kotoba wo Uragaeshi
ENZOU - Kawaisa Amatte Nanika ga Hyakubai
INOUE Satou - Kozure Ookami (INOUE Satou), and cannot wait to read more of 10 Dance
It's hard to know what else to suggest; as you say art is subjective. I can't believe that at one time I thought I wouldn't like MIYAMOTO Kano. 🙄

OMG! Well am I glad that I'm not the only one. I always avoided her works cause they looked old. But wow, her stories are amazing!! And her art is really pretty too once you get used to it 😃

Seconding Fake because it's one of my top five favorite BL works ^.^ Once you get past the old-style artwork (which I grew fond of, and then missed during the sequel), it's hilarious, the characters have believable personalities, there is an actual plot, the romance is nice and gradual, and the cases/mysteries are actually good (I read a lot of mystery manga, so that's saying something).
Hmm, Nakamura Asumiko has non-stereotypical art (weird, even), but she has some of the most unique and heart-wrenching plots I've ever seen nods
I put off reading Ze and Love Mode by Shimizu Yuki for the longest time because I thought her art looked very old. I ended up crying my heart out over both, especially the ending of Love Mode (was extremely tempted to drop it halfway through, so I'm glad I didn't) ^^;
And Komatta Toki ni wa Hoshi ni Kike! is shounen-ai, but while the cover and initial art kept me from reading it for a very long time, it is now one of my absolute favorites thanks to the great plot and loveable characters ^.^
