Description
Nitta Arata is a typical 21 year-old junior attending college of science and engineering at Toaru University. He is bright, he's in the engineering program after all, but he definitely is from a working class background. He has been working his way through college for the past 3 years without major incident, so being swept up in a warped experiment of an equally warped professor was the last thing he expected in the second half of his college days.
One day, Arata received a letter asking him to meet someone whose initials were "N.H." at a relatively secluded location on campus. The letter looked suspiciously like a "love letter", but Arata had his doubts. More likely it was a cruel practical joke perpetrated by one of his buddies, especially when the initials matched those belonging to "Nogi Hatsune", also know as "Miss Engineer", the reigning heartthrob of the engineering department. Why would somebody like her be interested in a nobody like himself? The short answer was that she would not be interested, but why take the chance of missing out? So there was Arata, in ultra-cynical mode, waiting at the appointed location when he was suddenly grabbed from behind! His last thoughts as world turned to black was that the gloved hands covering his mouth and nose reeked of ether...

I tried to get into this manga but had a hard time. The character development had a lot of weak spots. Yes, I was up for some good laughs in this and found myself chuckling on more than a few occasions but that was about it. Things were predictable and I was seriously hoping for me.

MY FAV. by JaKXz on December 1st, 2009, 1:42am

B-Shock was the first manga that I gave a 10/10. Yeah, its that awesome. 52 chapters that kept me locked, entertained, everything. I re-read it more often than I read new manga. You're gonna love this one, I can almost guarantee it. The fact that there aren't any real "villains" is so perfect for romance manga like this... and the romance was really well executed, there wasn't too much or too little. It added the flavour that all romance mangas SHOULD have, but some either go over or have very little at all. I'll say it again: B-Shock is the best! XD

This is one of my favourite romantic/comedy mangas EVER by apart01 on January 26th, 2009, 1:25pm

First of all, the this is one of those mangas that gave me numerous Laugh Out LOUD moments and my stomach was aching from the constant laughing. The jokes were genuinely funny and the funny expressions the characters have only adds to the charm and funny factor of the manga.
However, the romance was poorly developed as some people have said. The manga goes on for 3 volumes with nothing much happening in the romance department (even though we know the main characters HAVE to hook up as a rule of romance mangas) Then comes the volume 4 and BAM the romance begins to develop (2 volumes too late IMO) Therefore, the development was rushed, the ending was rushed, many characters, and i mean important characters, only made it into the manga once or twice.
Despite the 'rushiness' the ending left me with a good feeling and was a good ending in my books compared to other mangas. It would have scored a 10 if the romance and the ending were not so rushed. (Kinda wish it was longer because i wanted more)

The plot was really original. I really liked this manga. I feel like the ending was a little rushed but it was pretty good. I definitely think that this is more of a comedy with a dash of romance and not for those who are looking for romance.

At first, I thought it was a good comedy. Then, I found that the story went absolutely nowhere, and the romance was very poorly developed. The ending was horrible. You get a few kicks from the comedy, but that's about it. The chapters are extremely short too. I expected too much.

Better then I thought by GeoHolyhart on February 28th, 2008, 7:21am

It was better then I thought, but still not great. Like many others mentioned it was a fairly straightforward plot, which comes with it pros and cons. You won't remember this story far in the future, but it was fun and easy to read while it lasted.

This manga has a weak plot to say the least, totally predictable and felt more like random ideas where just being tossed around all throughout the story. I found that the initial idea was pretty unique, two people put in that situation, what would they do and how would they end up. Unfortunately the mangaka did not exploit all the benefits behind this idea and I felt that it was kinda wasted on simple humouristic situations and complete lack of any twist. The romance was also lacking, two people in their situation I would have expected to see romance growing between the two leads and maybe even throw in some ecchi situations. Unfortunately, that was not the case. In the end, the manga has no real plot and lacking in romance and the comedy was average at best. I gave it a rating of 7 just because it was interesting enough to keep me entertained for a few hours.

Not world-shaking, but fun nonetheless by Geese1 on February 16th, 2008, 4:30pm

As others have pointed out, you're not getting more than an average romantic comedy with this one. The plot is fairly straightforward and predictable, and the characters pretty one-dimensional. Also, the artwork isn't horrible, but it isn't great either; strictly average at best.
Even with all this though, when all was said and done I still had fun with it. The simpleness of everything really means you can cruise through this without overloading your brain, and although the end comes quick (too quick in my book), it's still fairly satisfying and gives a decent close to the series.
Recommended for fans of the genre who have a few hours to waste.
