Different

I'm not really a fan of gender bender series but I still gave this a try since the story looks interesting. The plot was surprisingly simple but I didn't really like the ending as it was missing something, like for example, they didn't even know about her cross-dressing. It would have been nice to see what happens if they actually found out.

Also, the aristocratic positions and names are seriously confusing. Maybe I'm not into political stuff, but I don't even know who's who.

But anyway, it was a decent read at least.

Songs of praise, scores above 6, and my own conflictions

Warning I like to comment with either a strong love or dislike of the series. Also may contain spoilers you've been warned by me😝

I'm going to be honest, I don't like this series. The older sister is an asshole. Many of the male cast lack a backbone. And everyone holds this ignorance I can't see past to view this whole thing as hilarious. To elaborate on what I said about the sister Kira, she is so selfish her brother doesn't get to truely live the life that he wants and then she ruins another girls life by getting married to her, because she wanted so much without a trace of guilt and only the shine of ignorance in her eye others had suffer. Most people rate this way higher than I did calling it "so good" yet maybe I'm not seeing it as the others viewed it.

Additionally I find it kind of shallow(the romance part of it). King saw her(naked i might add) fell in so called love with only spoken a few words of apologies and "chivalry"? then tries hard after to see her again with the only thing he knows is a lie(how stupid). Then every male in between who sees girl cross boy(the sister) and think 'how beautiful lady Kira must be a beauty' and just fall in love wth the boy crossed girl(the brother).

To finish, what's up with their names. When I read the disc riptide I perfectly understood then I read it and felt which one are you the boy or the girl. One is younger that was kinda cruel of the parents.

It's kind of carefree and of a happy nature. If you don't take it too seriously wou eill enjoy this short sweet read. I though the characters were likeable and the plot had a nice pace. Some events might seem a bit weird and unlikely but, as said, don't take it too seriously. Overall, great and lived up to my expectations.

Uggh the ending... The beginning was fine, it kinda felt really predictable once the love interest was introduced and everything was at a standstill until the resolution which went downhill.
Btw the only point of the archery in the beginning was to show off, never did anything else.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
That was so fool, the guy was completed blinded in the end and I was waiting for him to find out, and even better if he could have noticed on his own. The only unique thing was that he didn't notice midway like the other mangas.
And because the author didnt know how to resolve it she ended it there!! There was no after story at all let alone a complete resolution. (No shoujo passion)
Or I should say that everything ended so cleanly that it just ruined the whole thing. And there weren't any evil people here either, even when they went to the country. All this commotion was simply misconception and nothing else. Stories like this need a bit more conspiracy, maybe a bit more seriousness, like none of them did any visible WORK or had any problems besides their lovelives.

... Though the good points were that the art was funny and so were to people.

Mehh...disappointed?

I feel a bit unsure about this one. It had really good elements of a classic story but after about 4/5's way to the end my brow started to rise in doubt of what it was leading up to. I guess in comparison to how excited I was when it first started, my expectations deflated and I wasn't satisfied with the ending (see NightAir's spoiler/comment for specifics). I think the drama was piling up from the beginning and snowballed into something so chaotic that I expected the end's resolve to be much greater but it just didn't deliver for me and it felt rushed. I know this is 'based on a classic' but I don't know the original story so perhaps I just didn't know what to expect (I'm assuming it's a bit traditionally/historically based?). But regardless of that, as a story in general, I finished it feeling kind of bummed (mainly because I stayed up late to finish it for no consolation -__-).

In all, I liked the main premise and the comical involvement of the characters. Didn't completely please me personally but still, I'm glad I read it. And for a manga created in the 80's it has pretty good art in my opinion too! :3

this manga is the most awesome gender bender i had ever read in a while. the characters are very likable, the comedy is funny, and the plot with twists and turns are believable. it's been a while since i read a manga with so much happening and still totally bought it. a must read.

Holy shoot....I think this 4 volume manga had made me read this in more than 4 hours. That's a first since I usually take 1/2 hour per volume. Not that it's a bad thing, but a good thing that I'm actually paying attention to the dialogue and reread to get my info right. Anyway, within the 4 volumes, nothing left me unsatisfied, except probably for the ending since it left me wanting to know more afterwards. I guess it's another open ending for us to image. Well, I dunno if it's open ending for some people since this story wrapped up all the problems nicely.

Character, plot, and story development are nicely done. All 10 for them. As the story goes on, the problems became more complicated and twisted, having my laughing at each misunderstanding.

My only disappointment? It was too short for me since I could see more development and problems arising. I could see this becoming more than 4 volumes. But I know a lot of people rather have it short and sweet rather than it to drag on forever.

The only thing readers would probably have is when they come to distinguish the characters. I was confuse who was who during the first volume. However, I was able to tell the difference as I read on.

The author managed to make a complete of the story and tie it up in a neat story packed with comedy and intrigue. Although I had to re read some pages, just to get a hold of the direction the story was taking, it was an enjoyable roller-coaster ride of emotions. It's too bad that this kind of manga became rare these days.

I enjoyed it because it had a sort of story feel to it that made me want to know what was going to happen and also because I have a fondness for that kind of Japanese era with their Japanese fans and their Japanese screens and Japanese etc (historical Japanese lover I am). But then when it reached around chapter 10, the well-paced story seemed to be speeding up and ended up being rushed. It seemed like the manga-ka had planned it and then started playing everything by the ear. Also: The characters are...awkward in their love.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
For example, the emperor was in love with the main lead when she was a male, but then when he saw 'her' again as a female, he seemed to forget all about the love he had for the Lord Kira.

Either way, it's a light-hearted story that just ended too fast, but it's a good read. "Lord" Kira is a nice female lead who tries her best.

This was hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing throughout the story. It was a little overdone at the beginning, but toward the end the humour was well paced and flowed well. I especially enjoyed the "Am I'm GAY?!" bits. The romance was also very sweet. I give it a 10 out of 10.
