Being this kind of princess is nothing to be proud of for Matsuri so it's a secret that she keeps from her school mates, because it's her father who wants to make her a wrestler...but what will happen when she's discovered fighting those three guys by Arata, the bad boy who can even "fight cows"? Discover it and keep track of Matsuri Special!

Not shoujo by Goobersnotch on September 22nd, 2009, 2:00pm

I see a lot of comments, both positive and negative, claiming that this manga is a "shoujo". Actually, it's not, it's a shounen work running in Jump Square, a shounen publication. Of course, it's going to have a lot of female fans, but it is aimed at boys.

matsuri special vs hana yori dango? by xcyanide on August 31st, 2009, 10:48pm

Is it just me or does Matsuri, the pretty-boy, and the spiky hair guy look UNCANNILY like Makino, Rui, and Domyoji? Not just resemblance, but EXACTLY? Besides Domyoji's hair of course. But other than that... I can't see any difference.

Not that this is a bad thing. It's actually a plus for me, since I love Hana Yori Dango ^^

I only started reading, but it looks very promising! I love all of Kamio Youko's works!

Yoko Kamio is awesome! by margiepeace08 on August 20th, 2009, 1:13pm

If you're looking for something fun, amusing, and heartwarming, you'll love this series--even if you don't usually like shojo. The characters feel very real, and may sometimes irritate you, but learn and grow as the story progresses.

I wouldn't let the reviews complaining about the jerk love interest dissuade you, all signs (at least to me) point to Matsuri ultimately ending up with the other guy. You also may be put-off that Matsuri has a crush on this jerky character. Well, she doesn't know herself very well yet, and is a bit lost as to what she really wants (with both boys and wrestling), like most girls her age. So, you might even say that this is a story about Matsuri "finding herself"!

Tomboys ROCK! by Mel7 on February 24th, 2009, 2:21am

I think this is turning out to be a very fun read and I'm confident that it will prove itself to be an extremely entertaining story!

Kamio Youko is doing a great job setting up character's personalities and allowing them to grow as the series progresses (just as she did in HYD and Cat Street), and I'm looking forward to uncovering the truth behind each one.

This series carries more humor than her previous ones, and I am truly enjoying my time reading each chapter. I love Matsuri's energy and crude nature, and how her true feelings conflict with her actions. Her crush on the good-looking classmate shouldn't be so misunderstood and criticized...she's just a kid with a crush! It happens to us all at one, or many, points in our lives and shouldn't be seen as a weakness.

No, I don't believe it's going to shock anyone with an ending that comes from left field, but the ride will still be what makes you want more! The author's previous stories threw in many unexpected twists and turns, just as I suspect this one will do, making the story as a whole something to love.

In a nutshell, it's by a girl, for girls, and I'm a girl, so of course I love it! If you have any bad feelings toward anything just mentioned, you may not like it as much!! But if you're looking for a sweet story with memorable characters, you should really give this series a try!

very weak by ngebe on January 30th, 2009, 10:11am

typical shoujo setting, plot and art. the girl is basically a crappy drawn poor mans yawara, you know the prodigy girl that wants to do girlie stuff instead of rigorous daily training. two guys in the love scheme are both equally annoying, one weak female rival and most likely a typical shoujo ending you can spot from the moon make it a very weak read

I find the characters very interesting! I like the heart wrenching feeling this story gives (especially through Wataru's actions) 0,o It may be because I haven't read much shoujo sports manga but this was unique. Amazing story, can't wait to read more!

Don't really like it by Molenir on November 7th, 2008, 8:11pm

As the title says, I don't really like this manga. Its about a girl, forced to be a wrestler to help her father. She doesn't like it, doesn't want to do it, and yet the father basically forces her to do it anyway. 2 love interests, 1 is a complete jerk, thats the one she falls for of course, the others a nice guy, who likes her, so of course she can't return his feelings.

I don't know, I just find the story and the characters irritating. Doubt I'm going to bother with this one again.

its funny and all by marionoflag2 on October 18th, 2008, 4:47pm

its funny and all, but from the first 6 chapters i can tell thats that is no strong heroine, she might be physicaly strong, but her personality is really weak . beside i cant understand how can somebody fall for someone that hard just based on his looks, specially when you know he is an asshole it really pissed me off. are japanese girls are really as shallow as presented in manga? i dont really think so, but they are like that in almost every manga so its starting too get hard not to think so.

So refreshing by KittyTeea on August 27th, 2008, 3:23am

Finally a heroine that's not a total wimp. I'm so sick of all those girls that can only cry each time something happens to them (some of them cry even when they're happy, dumb). Matsuri might not be the smartest heroine ever, but at least she can deffend herself and doesn't need constant babysitting.
This manga has it all: a great plot, plenty of gags, nice artwork.
I recommend this manga to anyone who appreciates great stories.
