Description
Junjou Romantica: Takahashi Misaki is suddenly having some unexpected and odd problems. What started as a need for some college entrance exam tutoring has somehow led him to being romanced by a suave older man who also happens to be his big brother’s best friend. Confused by all of his brand new emotions, Misaki struggles to deal with his suddenly very odd life. And if that wasn’t enough, his suitor, Usami Akihiko, has plenty of issues of his own. A man-child who decorates his room in giant teddy bears and toys, Usami is a famous novelist who also writes steamy boys’ love novels on the side. When Misaki cracks open one of these books and reads sentences like “Usami licks every inch of Misaki’s hot body”…well, let’s just say that all hell breaks loose. Plus it dosent help with Usami claiming hes in love with him.

Junjou Egoist: Kamijou Hiroki is a broken man, consumed by unrequited love for his childhood friend, Usami Akihiko (the writer from Junjou Romantica). Along comes Kusama Nowaki, whose name "Nowaki" means "typhoon", an orphan working his way through life since middle school. Like the typhoon he is named for, he whirls into Hiroki's life and heart, blowing all resistance away before him.

Junjou Terrorist: As fate would have it, Miyagi Yoh (whom Hiroki is working with as assistant professor) and Takatsuki Shinobu, a high school student, cross paths. Bits of pieces start to link together from the first two stories. That aside, Miyagi, who has a sad hidden past in himself involving a relationship with his teacher, is faced with Shinobu, who just says whatever is on his mind. The wheel of destiny is beginning to turn once again...

Its such a shame as well since I really love the other two couples, but Misaki and Usami have always been my biggest pet peeves before and after I read this manga. The art of the manga always put me off for a pretty long time, but due to the hype I decided that as a hardcore Yaoi fan I had to give it a go. Can't say I was proved wrong, since the main couple continued to irritate me, but the other two couples were enough to get me by ^^

Misaki is so annoying -__- I hate the undecided and super easily embarrassed characters >.> I feel so sorry for Usagi-San. It's so damn frustrating to read it and not be able to smack Misaki around, Gawd e_e He's worse than a virgin maiden in the 1800's. I think that after the third time of doing it with someone you like, you would stop acting like that.
Most of the ukes in works from this mangaka tend to be like that, what's with the super embarrassed adult men? @_@ After a while it gets old. I think if I was a seme in this mangakas universe I would get tired of dealing with whinny ukes and turn straight.
There, I am done ranting XD I just had to get it off my chest. Hopefully it will improve as the series continues.

The series is good, and others may not mind characters like that so go ahead and read it, it's interesting :3

For me it is between Romantica and Egoist--like everyone else: I can't stand Terrorist. That kid is rotten to the core and not likeable. Misaki annoys me 75% of the time, too--the saving grace of Romantica is that Usagi-san is THE best character in the entire manga! Usagi-san makes me laugh out loud at his ceaseless craziness and uber-cuteness/quirkiness. I understood at forst that Misaki was having trouble coping with physical desires, but come on now--it's been 4 YEARS and he's still so immature? You get to feeling VERY badly for poor Usagi-san after a while! sad As for Egoist, even though Hiro-san is as hot/cold as Misaki, he is a tad more honet about his feelings and actually has his sweet moments. So I like their dynamic a lot--Hiro-san is my 2nd favorite character. Aikawa-san is my 3rd favorite, lol.

i'm just bound to this!!! i'm soooo hoooked!, but after all of this time reading other mangas and seeing the situation of Misaki and Usami from another point of view... it brooked my heart!
I dunno why but, i just never thought of Usami's feelings!, i mean he's sooo desperate all the time!
must be horrible to be.. HIM!,
All day long loving someone so much that it hurts, and that THAT someone doesn't even tells u he loves u or ANYTHING AT ALL!!.... i mean al LOT can be lost in translation and what u seem to want to express, may not be what u are expressing at all!...
He must be on a state on completeee AGONY!! all day, just by thinking that Misaki can leave him just about anytime he wants!... and that again.. just brokes my heart... :(
Cause this one, was one of my first yaoi mangas so.. i was more drawn into the: "OMG WTF do i feel for him" from Misaki that i am now, cause i've seen other works and read other histories where the character just kind of accepted rather easy his change of sexuality... -.-'
And don't get me wrong i DO think that, THAT IS a really big change into someone's live!! an that is correct to make the transition sloooowly... but i mean just look at the poor bastard he's loosing it!!
EEEverytime he thinks Masaki is gonna walk out of the house and never return again!... so.. i just hope in the future more it's written about Usami's happiness cause he deserves it... i mean LOL, give the poor man a break! and A LOT i mean A LOT!!! of love!! LOL

Alright...So do not be discouraged if the art at the beginning burns your eyeballs. If you're determined to find out what it is that has made it so popular, the art gets better. Not incredibly better, but not quite so... oddly proportioned. Like many of the other commentors, I'm not a huge fan of Terrorist. Doesn't seem to be going anywhere, every chapter they have yet another misunderstanding/lack of communication. Their story never, ever goes smoothly, quite honestly its becoming incredibly annoying. Come on, characters. You're getting it on, I'm pretty sure you can find the gumption to say whats on your mind. That storyline aside, its a pretty good series. Not the absolute best that I've read so far, but it does have a great number of releases.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Misaki needs to go ahead and stop being such a wimp about owning up to his feelings. I've been seriously tempted to smack the screen in frustration, "hwa...What are you talking about?" he's talking about hearing you say you loooove your favorite mangaka, who loves you in return even though he doesn't know a damn thing about how annoying you are. Maybe he'd like to hear it directed at him for a change. A**hole.

So >_> yeah. I'm....undecided. its been an entertaining read, yet at the same time, I'm kind of let down that I've spent this much time on a manga thats taken this long to get....nowhere XD

Pure Romance or Plain Comedy

I came across this series after searching for a good yaoi read and this came up. I read some reviews and decided to give Junjou Romantica a try. The art was cute or perhaps charming might be a better word for that, despite the hands not being proportional and being larger than their heads. But you can't judge a book by it's cover now can you? The story was good at first and the comedy scenes are humorous and amusing to laugh at. The sex scenes are yes, explicit but there are times where I have a hard time making out what is what to the point I do skip over some pages. However now, the story seems to be going nowhere and is instead going into circles. It feels like Nakamura -sensei is running out of ideas and is repeating chapters in different styles like a broken tape recorder. Each of the couples relationship seems to be going slow or nowhere now. I find it absurd that the anime is better than the manga but that's the truth. Romantica or Egoist, I cannot decide which is the better. Both Hiroki and Misaki are tsundere types and seem to be copies of each other. The only difference to me is the appearance and one being more violent than the other. Usagi and Nowaki are somewhat opposites and I find them funny and likable. Usagi has me cracking me up and Nowaki has me saying aw and smiling softly. I will say this, Terrorist is the one I do not like the most. Shinobu seems not like a terrorist but a pushy annoying brat who is spoiled. Miyagi is very closeted and not a very likable seme. The whole three couples connecting in different ways is however, unique in it's own way. Personally, I like that idea and wish there were more of that. The recent chapters has interested me and I will give this series another chance, me being nice and hoping it will get better or worse. I for one, hope it gets better. The art, the story, the couples put together had me asking myself, "Is this really the same lady who made that heart wrenching manga Hybrid Child and had people crying like their pet died?" Well hey, at least the lady tried to create a good yaoi manga despite it being somewhat cliched. So I'll give her credit for the effort. This manga is good for the yaoi fans who don't mind a cliched manga with large hands and tsundere ukes and good comedy. Now here's my verdict, being nice I am, I am going to give this manga a 7.0.

I just loved Junjou Romantica O~O
Even though the art wasn't really good in the beginning, I think the art just got better and better (especially the hands..). In the latest volume I read (volume 15), the art is lovely ^^ I like that kind of art!
I actually saw the anime before reading the manga (It was the first yaoi anime I had ever watched). But because I wanted to see more, I started to read the manga. At first I was really chocked because there were so much more details in the manga than in the anime (not that I'm complaining).

My opinions about the couples:

Junjou romantica: I really like this couple. It's my favorite! I don't know why, really. But I always fall in love with the main couple. Usagi is just adorable! Misaki can be annoying sometimes though, especially when it's about taking the first step, and telling Usagi that he loves him. You just waits and hopes through the whole manga that he will tell him and at least give him a kiss (on the mouth and not the forehead..). But I guess that's a little cute too ^^
Usagi has a really special personality too, very special. I like that ^^

Junjou egoist: I love this couple too. In the beginning I just pitied Hiroki soooo much. Nowaki is just so cute ^^ Hiroki never takes the first step though and it annoys me, since he is an adult ^^ And when Nowaki goes abroad to study and wont contact Hiroki not even once, that's just so weird. Who does that?

Junjou terrorist: Omg, I love terrorist! I like the fact that the uke is going after the seme. And Shinobu is just so cute and takes the first step a lot. I guess that's a little rare and I think that's why I like them so much ^^

I love, love, love the Egoist couple, followed by the Terrorist couple, and then the Junjou couple.

Nowaki and Hiroki are just brilliant. If I could change one thing, it would be for Hiroki to be a little more frisky with Nowaki. I think the author could pull that off and still keep him in character. But I love them both!

Yes, I gotta agree that the art wasn't the most perfect thing. But I have to admit that I could reread this manga over and over again. Just to say, it was a killer searching for the actual manga volumes in stores.

I really like the story line and plot. Found the characters cute and funsmile
Just didn't bother reading the ... terrorist one, the name says half of it. It was the worst, jus terrible if you know wut i mean!
Hope they make more yaois like this one!biggrin
