Supposedly the Best Manhwa Ever but...
Rating: 9.0 / 10.0

The best Manhwa I've ever read!! Of course like the others, I like the Art Style most especially their eyes since it reminds me of Ibuki- sama's artwork. Savage Garden really caught your attention, it's like you are blinded by that beautiful "Garden or a Certain Place" not knowing that the people living in there is trully a "Savage" to the point like you can't trust anyone else but you. Betrayal, Blackmailing, Murder, and Grief.

The characters are really interesting and yeah, their personalities are not properly showed, their thoughts and feelings aren't properly being explained like when and how did Gabriel fell in love with Ray [and Vice Versa], Gabriel didn't react much when Joshua kissed her and Euan kissed her the second time like she's saying "This happens a lot so it's fine". She is forgetting herself that she is pretending to be a male for her beloved friend and also said to herself "s/he" isn't interested in Sodomites but why is she not defending herself.

Lastly the Ending, really unsatisfied as some doesn't make sense. I had many questions about that chapter. Yes, I do admit that Ray is my favorite character and it was nice that he finally met Gabriel again although I wish that there's a sequel to it... the proper ending. Aww man really wish I could make a fanfiction of this but I don't know much about the characters, really not fleshed out...

Wasted Potential

This has so much potential and it wasn't used. The characters were all so interesting but they weren't fleshed out properly. SO MUCH COULD HAVE BEEN DONE WITH THEM BUT in the end, it felt like you didn't know any of their motivations or what was really going on in their heads. The last two chapters were also crap and the whole thing leaves you questioning and unsatisfied.

I feel really sad because this really could have been great, not to mention that the art style is beautiful.

I've not been so irritated by an ending EVER.

All-in-all, it's a typical high school gender bender, just set in 19th century England. Like many a female-male gender bender story, for some reason all the male characters look rather feminine, just as the art style. I've never really understood this (except to excuse why the girl can get away with it), so the art was pretty, but a little much. Those giant eyes just wore on me, too too much.

The story itself had some interesting parts, but could be rather nonsensical at times. It left you hanging too often, in an attempt - I felt - to create mystery. Rather it just annoyed me that things were told in such a round-about fashion. Hell, in the end I think the Duchess was my favorite character, and she was awful.

Even then, I could have come out and said it was okay if it weren't for those last two chapters. Ugh.

Unique story

I liked it a lot - it wasn't your typical shoujo character/plot, and I liked how the mood at times was sad and gloomy without the use of tears. I stayed up late in the night to finish the manhwa because it was so interesting. The beginning and the very end is a bit dull at times, but it's still a good read nontheless. The con is that there is a bit too much death that isn't really involved and doesn't affect the characters' life much - just their feelings.

Pretty good story, and the ending is okay but does not match up to rest of series

The art is gorgeous, and it got me sucked into the complex plot that kept me reading until just now. Gender-bending/crossdressing is usually not done well in stories, but this one made the most of it in the best ways possible. There's some potential shounen-ai hohay, but it's so beautifully depicted I wouldn't mind if some yaoi happened. wink there was no actual homo-stuff, btw

EVERYTHING WAS GREAT, UNTIL the end. Like, the ending is pretty happy and stuff ( well, happy but a bit unrealistic, rushed, and degrading for women) , but the author made the mistake of killing off MY FAVORITE CHARACTER in the most retarded way possible--and then just brushing it off anti-climatically as if it never really happened. WHAT THE HECK confused That's not how someone ends a good story...

A masterpiece, but...

Okay, I am not going to repeat it since that's what everyone here has said. Intriguing, complex and compelling story, extremely beautiful art, great characters, but as you all know, the ending. It didn't have to be like that. It was too rushed and things weren't exactly explained in the end. More time should have been devoted, it would have completed it. But for those who love dark, beautiful stories, I recommend you to read this.

I was dissapointed. I expected so much more from this story. I knew from the beginning, that it was a tragedy. But the end was just horrible. Euan was for me the main character. It was tragedy enough that Jeremy didn´t end up with Euan. Euan died in such a simple and incomprehensible way. He should have died heroically. And Raymond shouldn´t have found Jeremy. Now it´s somehowe inadmissible, that they could live a happy life. Perhaps I am heartless. But it was really not the end I have wished for. I thought they (Ray+Jeremy or Euan+Jeremy) would die as a couple from eating this poisonous poisonous berries. :D Sorry for my bad english. I hope you understand what I wanted to say. :D

Savage Garden had a haunting tone of story telling which compelled me to read it. The art and the delivery of lines were beautiful. The downfall was its rushed plot. There were several characters which it was focusing on at the same time without completely exploiting the potential. For eg. we never get to know why the maid, yvonne, wanted to get close to Raymond when she actually loves Will.

Personally I couldn't feel the depth in Ray's character. Its understandable that he is a troubled kid, but I couldn't sympathise with him much. Any sympathy I could have felt for him got crushed when he abandoned his family for Gabriel. That was irresponsible of him and he didn't even spare a thought for his children.

If only it were longer and less rushed. This could have been a masterpiece.

Euan didn't have to die and the fact that he dodged death once but died immediately after felt forced. He died in the penultimate chapter, then we had a time skip then Ray and Gabriel were united. Voola bittersweet ending. I feel like the author just wanted someone to die to make this a tragedy. Deaths are all right and in fact, I love sad endings as much as happy endings as long as they're all beautiful and compelling. Euan's death, however, felt stupid and out of no where. You know, deus ex machina. It felt wasted for the fact that we got to see no reaction from the main cast and just got a quick review of what happened in the time skip.

Plus, the reason Gabriel and Ray were separated was stupid. Apparently, she never left to America but stayed at a different city and didn't want to go meet Ray. That makes no sense at all. If Gabriel had a brain and loved Ray, she would have known that he was suffering and would not be able to leave him alone like that. If you love someone, you provide support when they are in hell, not leave them there to burn.

I love the atmosphere and the tone of the manga even though the plot was a bit lacking and the climax wasn't solved very well.

Beautiful

There is no other word-this manhwa is absolutely beautiful. You fall in love with the art at the first glance, and then you fall in love with the characters, and then the story. This is one of the most realistic stories based in a historical setting, and its gender bender aspect isn't a mere whim of the heroine, but one of the main dramatic reasons for the story.

The manhwa artistically depicts the multitude of flaws in life, especially in 18th century England (it IS based on 18th century I think but I may be wrong). The vain-ness and languid life of the nobility, and the indulgences and vices and corruption that starts out young. As the story goes on you get hungrier for more, and then all of a sudden it ends.

Yes, my only complain is how it ended... Even extending the manhwa further by one or two chapters would have made it graceful as the rest of the story, but it didn't happen. So all you can do is console yourself with your own colorful imagination.

No, I lied. I do have another complain.

Did Euan really have to die? It felt as if the author knew Euan was a far better protagonist than Ray and there was no way Euan wouldn't be the one Jeremy/Gabriel ended up with so she had to kill him. Even his way of dying had no significance... if only he'd died while fighting for her... he won that battle but lost the war. Killed for a crime he didn't even commit - how cruel. But then I suppose it goes with the theme of the story, the capricious nature of nobility and fate. But it was to cruel, and not well-executed at all... And bringing the time skip right after? Hasty, hasty.

Rushed ending nonetheless, I highly recommend this manhwa. You'll love it, absolutely love it to the extent that you'd wail it wasn't a bit longer, just like I'm doing now smile
