Description
Akuma to Love Song revolves around an unusual girl, Kawai Maria who was expelled from her previous school, St. Katria Girls' School, and soon transfers to Touzuka High School, a public school with low standards. Her sharp tongue and straightforward personality leads everyone to hate her with the exception of two handsome boys who eventually get involved with her. With a devil's aura like hers and an arrogant facade to pair it up with, it's just too hard to be understood. And so Maria needs to deal with bullying, adjusting, fitting in and romance. Just how will a devil like her cope with all these predicaments?

I like characters like her, but I loathe love triangles, especially if it involves 2 girls and 1 guy- it turns this into more of a 'typical' shoujo. Beforehand, it was a fine read- in fact I would prefer it this only had SUBTLE romance lol (maybe, wait, definitely because I personally didn't like the love triangle). As everyone else had say, the art is cool and Maria is especially pretty and a bit dull...

Edit: I read it again, and I seriously loved the beginning, but yet again, it disappointed me again with her I love Megu phase. It got interesting with another new character though, therefore I will keep reading, hoping for the impossible... (I hate cliche stuff, gawd, I should take a break from manga)

Really, I think the author did a poor job pulling off what she was trying to do. If I were to rate this manga on execution of her goal, this manga would probably get a 1. None of the character personalities are realistic, and that's fine, but please mangaka, don't make an expectation for it. If you're going to give us characters as ridiculous as monkey boy and Maria, don't try to make the plot so serious. It's like a dark parody gone extremely wrong.

The plot is mediocre at best. Really, the main character is what makes it anything of interest, but the way the manga-ka manipulates the events around her makes even Maria irritating after awhile, despite the fact that she is, by all accounts, a bland character. Unlike previous reviewers, I didn't find her perceptiveness to be a turn-off. It was realistic considering the (pretty ridiculous) background story, and frankly, I'd prefer an omniscient narrator that refuses to tell me things than an idiotic shoujo girl who walks around picking up hot guys by some godly intervention. That being said, the manga shifts viewpoints, yet another reason to be annoyed by this manga. I understood the effect she was trying to create, but the jumbling together of everything just made it more annoying.

Ugh.

I just don't know what to say. It wasn't great. But it also wasn't horrible considering the ridiculous plot. The bullying theme worked horribly with this manga. At first, the theme seems to work well as some sort of warped justice-heroine thing with a dark (and occasionally comedic) twist to it, but by the time the subplots sink in, you're left feeling overwhelmed, if not irritated.

The pacing is okay I suppose though, for the majority of the manga. Personally, what would have saved this manga for me is if she didn't write THIRTEEN volumes of it. Considering the absolutely horrific job she did with character development (clunky, without much reason, and entirely event driven with occasion side comments from Maria's perspective), she should have ended it while she was ahead.

Preferably skipping the subplot catastrophes and love triangle mess. I thought the development of Maria was going to be thoughtful and entertaining, yet somehow enticing, but I was shown extremely wrong. I believe I received this impression within the first volume or so. The male leads are so poorly characterized that it made the manga-ka's lack of ability to do so obvious.

I may be a little more critical than is wise for a shoujo manga of this caliber, but I don't believe I've written anything out of line. I read an astounding amount of shoujo, yet there was nothing about this manga that wanted me to like it despite the astronomical amount of cliches, "hidden" backgrounds (read: DRAMA), and ridiculous event progressions.

Actually, if I were to be so cruel, I would probably say that this manga has a penchant for pissing anyone with an ounce of awareness of what they're reading (i.e. seeing BEYOND the art and supposedly original main character) off.

I'll give it a 4. It could have done better, but with the first volume like it was, I didn't expect it to become so. I'm just disappointed it lasted as long as it did.

Note: I read the original, untranslated version for about half of the manga.

I've only read the first couple of chapters scanlated by serenus-dreamers and what struck out at me the most were how polarized the minor characters were (such as the side students and teachers). it felt really unrealistic to me because no one is that one-sided. almost everyone is marvelling at what an awesome kawaii maria is but I don't like her simply because I found her hard to relate to and unrealistic sometimes.

it was boring and exagerrated. anyways i read about 13 chapters and then dropped it.

I'd recommend this to those who hate the typical shoujo heroines cause kawaii maria is a complete 180 of those. this manga has all the same cliche plot devices that make us love and hate shoujo.

When I first starting reading it, I thought it was a nice opening and I thought it had a lot of potential. Up until the latest volume (vol 8)..With the whole Anna arc.. after that, i found some raws to check out and the story plot just plummeted I did not like the ending at all! Not much character development either -_-.
I don't think I'll pick it back up again even when it's completely translated.

but somehow after the whole 'I love megu' things I couldn't keep up with it. It got sort of disappointing and boring so I couldn't help but dropped it. I like Maria's character and the others too. Although Megu's character is the typical cold guy,I found it interesting since he's not the cool-bastard-jerk type. Also Yuusuke is cute and I love Tomoya too. The characters are interesting but like I said, the story got kinda boring and I stopped reading it.

So I found something that's actually much more annoying than cliches...stoic female leads. I understand how people are drawn to strong personalities much better than stereotypes, but this is nothing realistic at all.
What do you expect? It's fiction,I get it,but to think that the whole bullying part was a bit too exaggerated to make it believable makes it even more annoying.

Maria...how should I say it? She's a very strong character yet she lacks expression and depth. She's basically lacking everything,so she's also very dull.I couldn't see anything interesting in her at all.
The plot seems interesting at first look, but upon examining the rest,it gets boring and cliched. I really did not see the point in dragging this at all.
Most of the characters were drawn beautifully,so i guess that's the only thing that seemed convincing to me.

Maria is so brutally honest that she's everyone's reality check, which is why people can't hide who they really are, and also why everyone hates her. On the other hand, she's completely able to handle the situation and solve her problems. She's a tough character and someone everyone is attracted to. There are lots of side characters that you'll love to hate and some that you'll hate to love. But this isn't a manga with any romantic moments, rather it's something more about gaining redemption and obtaining cardio fortitude.

- how corny it can be sometimes
- those musical things (not interested at all)
- Yuusuke, I hate monkey-like guys
- Anna, I find her annoying too.
- Nippochi is trying too much to be some kind of heavy metalist?
or how should I say it, she keeps babbling about how skulls and black are so cool
etc. that doesn't make her cool if she's surrounded by skulls. oldy 6th graders
think like that.
+ Maria x Megumi
+ Marias personality
+ Elvis Presley - Amazing Grace

Maria's past is quite scary and it's like a violent roller coaster when I first read it.
This manga is generally dramatic...what else?
However, the storyline and the characters is quite enjoyable. I like things that are slightly dramatic/or should I say over-dramatic xD because I like over-fluffy shoujo that has a bland story wave.

It may not suit everyone's taste, but it certainly suited mine xD
