Yuri, a modern day teenager who had just received her first kiss, is suddenly whisked away to ancient Anatolia where an evil queen wants her for a blood sacrifice. Luckily, the timely intervention of Prince Kail saves Yuri from the queen's grasp. For now. Kail promises to send Yuri back to her home, but the queen's persistent schemes to kill them both, plus their growing interest in each other, keep those plans delayed.

Note: Contains a side story called Orontes
that is published in the final volume (28) of Anatolia Story, which is set in the same historic period.

(Datenshi Blue's vol 28 does not include Orontes Renka. Instead, it was released separately by ShoujoMagic.)

In 2001 this series won the Shogakukan Manga Award for shoujo.

Starts good and goes steady for a while but close to the end it gets boring and repetetive. My suggest is you start reading and get as far as you can have fun.
It is definitely not a bad read, but because of length it gets boring. Definitely a good shoujo.

Too much problems

Is it a good manga? My answer would be a Yes. BUT, I stopped reading it because there's just too many problems. The manga didnt have that break where the couple could relax. As if the reader would always be worrying or headache because of too much problems. It would be okay to have those problems if Yuri and Kail would have enough time to be together, But they are always apart. 3/4 of the manga they are always apart from each other, and the 1/4 would just be talking and thinking of tactics. Well I havent finished it im on volume 22 because i got tired from all those problems. My own problems is enough for me, i wouldnt want to read such a problematic manga. Manga is my place where I could relax and fulfill my own fantasies. hahaha. But its a good manga, its not that bad after all smile

i'll give it an 8 since its not that bad and worthy of reading.

This manga was a little on the annoying side. I say this because Yuri always made stupid mistakes. When someone told her not to do something because it will cause problems, she did it anyway and some times got people killed. This manga was good i liked the fact that as the manga developed she became stronger and stronger and not so helpless. Another problem I had with this manga is how it became repetitive. Yes some mangas are repetitive and we can look past it, but this manga drew on for soooo long I found myself skimming the pages because i knew how they would end. All in all I did not favor this manga but i know some people will like the way the story develops. This wouldnt be my first choice to recomend but i would recomend it none the less. I say give it a shot but if you get bored half way through, I say skip to the end because the story wont change. You really wont miss much and you can put it together easily.

A gripping story that should not be put aside despite the quiet old art style, this is still one compelling manga. The only negative side is the repetitive plot line of

attempted rapes and untimely deaths from side characters
anyway this manga is absolutely worth it for shojo readers!

So I've picked up this manga after putting it on my wishlist for a long time since I'm not sure if this is a good manga, although I've seen a lot of people recommending it not to mention that there's 28 volumes which is another reason why I'm not reading this yet since I'm not a fan of manga with long volumes. But, I'm kinda happy that I picked this up. Although at first I'm pretty irritated with Yuri defying her love for Kail, just because she's from a different "era". The another thing that I dislike is the constant kidnapping of Yuri. It's a bit annoying that she gets kidnapped every single story or scene, although she can still mingle her way out without relying on the help of Kail. Her bravery is what I admire of course! Not to forget that the people who spoils my mood by making their appearance is Urhi and that wicked Nakia. But overall, it's a good story although so many good people died. (I cried when Tito...uh, I better not say it. You guys should read it!) Since the ending is a happy one, I'll recommend this. :3

it was quite long but it left nothing to ask for. most of my questions were answered and it was worth the read. (i finished it in only 2 1/2 days biggrin)

it's a mixture of romance and history and i see her actually growing. it's more believable since time is moving unlike usual mangas where the heroine is set to grow mentally and emotionally in a short span of time.

There wasn't anything to hate, on my part. I was a bit worried about whether or not i could tolerate the art since i can't stand the earlier manga art but i was proven wrong. everything was drawn simply yet elegantly. all the characters were beautiful and the story is realistic in a sense that there are war strategies and a strong sense of loyalty and honor.

all the characters were great, including all the antagonists(there were a lot). The protagonists were adorable!!!! I just loved them!

all in all, this manga was worth the read and it gives a sense of finality that most mangas don't give.

you should try it.

The story is interesting but it kind of drags on. When it ended I was just glad it was done instead of wanting to beg for more like you would after reading Basara. Also some of the ideals in the story just make it seem forced, hinder the progress and make the story less believable. Like how the king, a war hero, basically refuses to have anyone executed, including the main villain of the story. sorry, i'm going to have to call Bullsh*t on that.

anyways, don't get me wrong, its a good manga and an enjoyable read, its just not a great one. I'm giving it 8/10

Spoilers ahead!!

At first I was...sort of skeptical about reading this since I am very particular about what manga I read based on (for the most part) the part of the manga. Just based on the art itself, I could already tell that this is an old manga (older than what i usually go for, lol). But I know I shouldn't discriminate based on that--it's just that I have such a hard time reading a manga if the art is sucky. The style is quite apparent. However, based on very good reviews and recommendation (searched for recommendation manga similar to "Shirayuki" manga), I started reading it. It's...very long. So be warned. Haha. I started reading this while I was supposed to be studying for midterm and got absolutely sucked into it that I couldn't stop. I lost sleep reading this. Tis' absurd. Anyway, as I read it, the art is actually very, very well done. It's in a different style than I am used to. This kind of art is so much more detailed and proportional that I know it must have taken considerable more effort and skill to draw it. It's very stylized--however you wanna take that comment.
The story is quite well done. There's so many twists and turns that I couldn't get tired of it. Things never really turned out the way you want it to. Though,...I do agree to some extent that the evil queen plot may be a bit repetitive. Personally, i don't really mind that much .Yeah, sure it's cliche, but I'm more into the romance and military advances than the queen's attempts to kill Yuri.

People you don't want to die, died. It's kind of sad, but I guess that's what makes the manga sort of realistic in that it doesn't discriminate characters. Umm... I was a bit put out for a while that the main character (Yuri) seems to be relying too much on the Prince (Kail), but then later on in the manga, she started to develop reason and good judgement. She matured a lot as the story goes on--not as fast as I would have liked. (Also it seemed that sometimes everything just sort of...fall in to the lap without her doing anything significantly brilliant). But she did, and that's why I classified this as a coming of age manga among many.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)

-First love.
-First time (sex)
-playboy turned one-woman-man
-coming of age = growing up
-leadership (as a prince, princess, queen, king, and the "Istar" which is a religious/ideological figure--the Goddess of Love n War)
-royal family vs. commoner
-feuds between countries and between the peoplr of the royal family (the rights to the throne)
-love triangle (between the king, the commander of Egypt, and the girl-Istar)
-historical biography (middle east => Egypt, Anatolia, Babylonian, etc. = situate historical figures like Pharaoh Ramses of Egypt in a different and more intimate context).
-hot guys who are half naked most of the time. and....of course "hot" girls who usually wear revealing clothes --not for prudes!! (lol). Like, seriously, even though this manga doesn't have any explicit sex scenes, you'd be surprised as I was how many nipples were shown. I just keep wondering how they shave their legs (tmi?).
-military (campaigns, war, training, fistfights, sword fights, etc.)
-lots of deaths

Highly recommended.
