Dont like the other couples

I love the story of Onodera & Takano, but the other two stories is... Blah...

I mean the Kisa and Yukina story is an alright story, they have their moments and there's the insecurity that makes it a little interesting but i'm not really feeling it too much, but i will say that Yukina is definitley the best looking in the series and i think that it has potential to be better...

And as for Hatori and whatshisname, i dont like the story at all so far, like you know its not good when you cant even remember the uke's name, this story also has its moments but its by far the worst story, and i have no hope for it...

I say keep the main couple of course, keep Kisa/Yukina, get rid of Hatori/Whatshisname and add Yokozawa/Kirishima... If you havent read the Yokozawa/Kirishima novel you definitely should, its really good!

I read this series after I had seen it practically everywhere, and I will admit, Nakamura Shungiku's other popular series, Junjou Romantica, was my first.
This series is almost as good as Junjou, some even say better, but since Junjou Romantica was my first yaoi series, I can't say if one is better than the other. All I know is that I LOVE Sekaiichi Hatsukoi as a whole.
The main pairing, Takano and Onodera, are absolutely adorable. I love the concept of this pairing, as it's something rather unique that I hadn't encountered in a manga before. There relationship is just so amusing, and sometimes even complicated, and you feel warm and tingly just reading and watching their relationship grow with each chapter.
The other pairing, Hatori and Chiaki, are also equally adorable; but well, all the couples in this series are adorable.
I was intrigued by Hatori's character when he was first introduced, since he seemed rather quiet and mysterious. I suppose he is rather quiet and mysterious, but Chiaki, brings out a different light in him. His love for Chiaki, his childhood friend, is so sweet and pure, and the two balance each other out nicely, in my opinion.
The next pairing, Yukina and Kisa, was a bit awkward at first, but it was nice to see Kisa gradually open up to Yukina and give himself to him.

I would definitely give Sekaiichi Hatsukoi a chance if you haven't already, because it is just a wonderful series that you cannot pass up.

So first, this manga to me is awesome. The charaters and the art are all 10 for me. Even though I just wanted to focus just on Takano x Ritsu, sensei pulled me into the other realtionships also. I dont like reading a manga again because I know everything that happened already and its just weird but I
I've read this one alone like 3 times (bored) but still I was excited because Ritsu isnt your average shhy uke and Takano isnt your average demanding seme. their a funny couple RECCOMENDED >___< READ IT

I tried this manga because I was interested in what the fuss was all about with the Junjou series and I just couldn't force myself to read Junjou Romantica - there has been many attempts, but the art just throws me off so bad and the characters are not even likable....
but back to the main topic, it does have an interesting plot - I do have a small soft spot for stories based on the manga publishing industry (if done well)... the characters are alright, though they do fall right into the cliche slots, but at least it's not a 'fall in love, confession, sex' story, the pace is quite good and onodera's struggles with his feelings are understandable so overall, it's a fine read... though I don't find myself wanting to re-visit it in the future.
The other couple is just simply not memorable...because to be honest, I don't even remember what their story was about

I really like this series.

I haven't read Junjou Romantica so I don't know how to compare it to the original series but I really like Ritsu. I like that he's ornery and stubborn and I like that he lives a portion of his life in denial. The reason I like those aspects is because in some ways it seems more realistic to me. Too often in yaoi series, it seems like people have tons of drama over simple misunderstandings. In this case, yeah, there was some misunderstanding in the past but I actually don't personally believe that the misunderstandings are that out of control in the current part of the series. The things that Ritsu believes (whether or not they're true) make sense to me based on what he knows, and I like that he blocked a lot of things out of his past. It fits his personality because he does similar things in the present as well.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
There are some things that I see in yaoi series that I get a little "*sigh* alright" about-- like how Takano basically keeps forcing himself on Ritsu. And the number of times they can go from sitting around nowhere near touching to all of a sudden being naked and having sex. One of the scenes that stood out the most to me with logistics is a car scene where all of a sudden Ritsu's on the receiving end of a whole lot of Takano love. I find it slightly hard to believe that they never have problems with anything and Ritsu is never uncomfortable since it seems like every time lube and (of course, since it's yaoi) condoms are nowhere to be seen.

But the thing that I like about this series is that if you keep reading, there are things that make sense. Ritsu is getting manipulated by Takano in some ways and that's not really the epitome of a healthy relationship. But at least Takano has reasons for not letting Ritsu get away. Ritsu ran away for a decade once and Takano doesn't want that to happen again. It doesn't really excuse any dominant behavior but it at least puts it in the context of his life. And since Ritsu's personality is such that I think he actually doesn't mind the dominating, it doesn't bother me the way it exasperates me in some series.

I know I just spent a lot of time mentioning things that aren't my favorite part of the series so it may seem odd for me to say I really like it. But I do. Ritsu makes me laugh. I find most of the characters to be endearing. I like that more and more information is getting out about the main two characters' pasts. I think I also like that this series is a little bit different-- that at least the uke isn't super girly and falling all over himself to get in the pants of the domineering seme. I like that Ritsu questions what the hell he's doing even as he's doing things he can't stop himself from doing. I like that Ritsu didn't want to believe he was in love for a long time. I like the little notations which amuse me, such as, "296 days until Ritsu falls in love." It makes me curious about what will happen to finally tip the scales-- what that final moment will be when he falls completely in love.

And I like that they have problems and miscommunication but a lot of it seems very reasonable to me. Yokozawa spends all this time filling Ritsu's mind with warnings and threats that it's reasonable to me for Ritsu to be hesitant and questioning and to an extent jealous. It's reasonable to me that he doesn't fully believe Takano when Takano says anything about it because he still doesn't know whether to believe whether Takano was just screwing with him when they were younger. It's reasonable to me that Takano reacted so poorly to finding out that Ritsu had some other stuff going on when they were going out before (I'm being vague to avoid more concrete spoilers), because once you find out more about him you learn that he had a tough life and he was kind of an angry kid and he didn't believe in people who were kind without wanting anything in return. If he thinks the one person who acted that way to him, who he came to love and who abruptly disappeared on him, and who later turned out to have potentially been two-timing him all along-- it makes sense to me if he had a bit of a breakdown when you add that to the other stress going on with him.

Also, this series has made me burst out laughing suddenly a few times, like when Takano finds out Ritsu's last name was never Oda XD That scene was great.

So in conclusion, it's not the absolute omg best ever yaoi series I've ever read. It does have a few tropes in it (which is why I gave it an 8 1/2). But I think they're outweighed by the characters and the interesting dynamics and the things that are done a little differently than your every day BL. I like that the series makes me laugh. I like that the characters are a little messed up but they realize they are and that there's a fair amount of character development. I like that the misunderstandings seem to have at least some amount of realistic basis. I like the dual story lines of the way Takano and Ritsu are at work and outside of work. I like that Ritsu is so determined to be seen as his own person. I like a lot of things about this series and keep coming back to it every few months to see if there are any updated chapters.

I would recommend people read this if they're curious.

Think of it as another perspective. (Alas, I don't expect people to stop burning me with fiery pitchforks.)

I read this first before Junjou Romantica, and... After reading Junjou Romantica, THEN this again, I arrived at one conclusion:

No one has friends here. You know, that kind of close friends you can talk about anything, ESPECIALLY your troubled love life / resurfacing first love of catastrophic past / your brother's best friend who actually liked your brother THEN started molesting you THEN started falling for you THEN you started falling with him.

How lonely. And no, definitely not cultural. One person, completely understandable. Two, okay, homosexuality isn't really accepted. I understand. Three, still fine. Not everyone in Japan has lotsa friends, moreso for accepting friends. But when almost all characters of the entire series + another series related to the work before all exhibit the same anguished, tragic, forcefully hidden under every rationale possible, all wrapped in denial, explosive love (or rather, the tendency to hide it and not talk about it until the worst possible moments).....

Milked for drama. I mean, think about it, a LOT of the tension presented in both series can be fulfilled without much (delicious, but still, artificial) angst if they talked to a friend who can then slap them in the head with a paper fan while yelling "BAKAAAAAAA! THIS IS NONSENSEEEE!!!". Or having a heart to heart talk.

>_>;

And that's the bad part of Sekaiichi Hatsukoi -- in one word : pacing. Junjou Romantica only got like, 2-3 volumes (in which it alternates between different people and different personality and more especially, different kind of resolution) of The Masochism Tango + Belligerent Sexual Tension before going straight to Tsundere area. Sekaiichi Hatsukoi got like, 5 straight volumes. WITH Tsunderes on both sides.

Meta-wise, that's a bit...oi. Well I understand there are certainly progress (and sex. Lotsa sex.). But....exactly that point. I felt a bit cheated. Also a bit nonsensical (albeit sure, I can chalk this to suspension of belief)
Story-wise...dear God, poor Ritsu. He's broken and atm I don't wish for Takano to save him with The Power of Love, as much as for anyone to drag him to a therapist. A lot of psychologist could have a field day with his denial alone, not to mention his inferiority complex. Not to mention his mental avoidance towards 'proper healthy relationships'.

Other aspects, eeh. Standard fare of Nakamura Shungiku. Fans will come like piranhas, detractors stays 30 feet away.

I sure like the manga publishing aspect of the story, though, but I dunno....within the rose colored glass of Nakamura Shungiku's world, which is glossed over, and which isn't?

And thus, I'm done with my long perspective (ranting?). I'll follow it until the end, but just for the sake of a much-needed closure.

Tell me cheesy, but I find the theme beautiful, and actually has something to be aimed for. You might find the uke annoying with all his denial (oh come on, Junjou-roman's Uke was already quite annoying, but at least he still shows his seme some love and affection) and pull-push thingie.

IMO A kind of manga that cant be pinpointed what's so special about, but makes me follow it diligently.

So far I'm really liking this. I love the setting! Personally, I prefer this over Junjou Romantica big time. The "First love" concept is simply refreshing and sweet.

The only problem i have is the art--- the way she draws older men bugs me a bit how the mouth is so low and the chin is so narrow, but other than that i like the art. This is potentially my second favorite yaoi manga ;D (Yellow being the first) Btw, i also recommend checking out the anime. Its nice to see the characters actually in action, and i went through all 12 episodes in a flash TT.

At first when i saw that this series was an anime (after no liking the anime very much for junjo romantica but still love the series) i wasn't going to give this a shot but after a yaoi friend recommend it to me I finally decided to give it a shot and after watching the Ova i'd die-hard and read the series up to vol 6. ch 11. I have to say that in my opinion that this is better than junjo romantica with the plot and with the characters. Again 3 couples are inttoduce like junijo romatica and are parelle with one another as you see the the main character, ristu is the son of the famous onodea company who publishs usagi-san's(from junjo romamtica) and features isaki(also in junjo romatica that similar to ristu's case in this story) The character's are simialar to junjo romtica with 2 of the ukes (Kisa shouta, and chiaki) who looks like misaki but eye color, and hair style different. Artwork like many 0ther said is better.
Contains SPOILERS
1, (Takano x ristu a story dealing with love in the past but resurfacing again after 10 years)Couple and to me is the best couple Takano x Ristu is a couple who was dating 10 years ago for a short time, and broke up due to misunderstandings by Ristu who would watch Saga-senpai (old name) in the libaray and love him for he saved a cat when no one else would dedpite no getting to know or knowing his personaity. After 10 years later Ristu mets Saga-senpai again but could not reconize who he was because his name name was changed and he had other problems. unfortunately for Saga-senpai who also didn't reconized him at first due to his last name which was “oda ristu” which was a fake last surname he added because he was embarrass to put his real name but want to stay conntect with saga-senpai, finds out who ristu is and plans to make ristu fall in love with again despite ristu. who doesn't want to fall in love with him.

2, couple Chaiki x Hatori (Cute couple dealing with childhood friends)
Chaiki is a male Author that writes shojo manga. He being a male is drawn into his childhood friends who love him but he thinks they're in love with each other. One of his childhood friends hatori is his editor but chaiki takes under a female name due to female fans being dissapoint to find out he is a male (Chaiki thinks thats) tells chaiki that he is in love with him and tells him that they can't be together anymore due to the fact that he spoils him and that he was the only reason to get close to chaiki. Chaiki however accepts his feelings but hatori only thinks that he loves him as a friend. Yuu, another childhood friend is rivals with hatori to win chaiki heart as well.
Sadly this series is in Novel only
3. couple Kisa shouta x Kou Yukina (Another cute story and couple that works on if a beautiful love such as this could hold on) Kisa shouta, who is also a editor like ristu and works with him is a 30 year 0ld man who falls in love at first sight at a man in a bookstore who is get shojo manga that he has read and loves sold to a bunch of girls that love him and find him beautiful, Kisa loves him but it's cause of his face that he loves and believes that a person like him could never be with someone like him. Later he is caught in the bookstore stalking the beautiful man again by Yokazoa (i believe) and introduces kisa to him. Kisa gives the man his card but is sad to find out that he does not reconize him for he has met him before, but finds out his name is Kou Yukina. Later another guy finds kisa, who is about to leave the store in sadness is stopped by him cause he wanted to get back together with kisa. Kisa explains that they'd on slept together once an that was it for them. The man wasn't giving up but is stopped by the beautiful man and is told that there is no fighting in the store. Kisa encounters the beautiful man again in a coffee place (i believe) and turns out that all the books that he'd been selling were from the same editor who is kisa and finds him amazing to make him cry while reading his books. Yukina also asks him for his age which surpise to find out that kisa is 30 and he is 21. He also says that he want to create a fair to sell all his books that he loved to read which kisa is surprise by his kind words and starts to blush because of it. It turns out that his words makes Kisa blush leaving Yukina seeing that and kissing him in the store.
Anime and Manga are just amazing to read or watch.
I have to say these 3 stories a nothing but comdey and hardcore happy scenes that actually leaves hardcore Yaoi fans and guys who actually don't watch yaoi wanting more.
