From Viz: Sachie Wakamura just lost her mother, and her estranged grandfather has shown up to take care of her. The only problem is that Grandpa is the head of a yakuza gang! Sachie tries to continue living her normal life, but she can't run far since Rakuto, one of the most popular guys in school, is part of her grandfather's gang and her new protector. Soon, Sachie finds herself falling for her bodyguard. But she's the granddaughter of Rakuto's boss, so she can never show her feelings for him. Can Sachie find a way to fit into her new family and seize her chance at romance?
i kinda liked it at the first chapters....before this one bores the hell out of me. talk about the girl being weightless to be easily scooped with one hand for numerous times.. it is pretty good on the humour side, but most of the times, i laughed at the love scenes. still, i like it, but its not good enough.
Gokusen is not like this manga at all. I just could not get into this story, I tried reading volume 2, after being only mildly amused in the first volume, and I couldn't finish, it was just so boring. It seems like a very juvenile story and premise. There is no real character development and everything the hero does seems very superficial. I stopped reading Viz's version of this manga and will probably never pick up reading it in scanlation format. It just doesn't do anything for me, plus the drawings look lifeless. If you want to read something different that the usual vein of shoujo comics, don't pick this one up, it’s incredibly typical.
I like it. It's light and mood friendly. I didn't expect it to be something serious to begin with, so I'm most looking forward to future scanlations... Hmm... Hope it will be complete soon...
Well, the pictures are really cute and absorbant but the characters need more details. But, it is only on the 2nd chapter so far...I like the guy charactrer Rakuto but the girl? Annoying as heck. If you like bad attitude Yakuza with a hint of romance read on.
Please dont' compare this manga to Ouran Host Club or Gokusen. Wakamura Sachie is totally different from Haruhii or Kumiko. Arakure, on the inside, is just another shoujo consists of a girl pinning after a guy, a handsome and popular and smart guy, but afraid to tell him due to whatever reasons. Then angst follows.
This looks like the work of the manga-ka who made Ouran High. This looks really neat! And the storyline is awesome! For some reason, I'm always attracted to the Yakuza stories! Probably because of Gokusen. XP
Ok, I am a pretty big fan of Fujiwara Kiyo's works. Help!! was just adorable, and Boku wa Ne is cute. That's why I was pretty excited when Saigo no Shou picked up Arakure. But...it feels way too much like Gokusen. Yakuza girl must keep her identity hidden, and she has a handsome love interest who has no life other than protecting her. Pretty standard shoujo fare.
The artwork is nice, and the scan quality is pretty good. But what it all boils down to is a submissive servant guy and a silly but "strong hearted" heroine. It's a tried-and-true recipe for a somewhat successful shoujo manga, but not really an original or great story. Fujiwara-sensei could do better...
