Description
From Viz media:
Timid and self-conscious high-school student Karin never paid much attention to boys until she met Kiriya, a popular student from a nearby boys' school. Karin and Kiriya embark on a romantic journey despite Karin's classmate Yuka's best efforts to sabotage their relationship, but Karin soon learns that living happily ever after isn't on the curriculum when she becomes Kiriya's center of attention, as well as embittered Yuka's bull's-eye on her dartboard of hate.
I started reading this a few years ago, and as far as the romance goes it was really dumb (like a bunch of other shoujo manga) but i continued reading it just because, but i stopped at volume 5 until later i decided to pick it up again (from the beginning) after reading Bokutachi wa Shitte Shimatta (which is a much better manga btw) at first i was all "i'll give this another shot.." and then later i was all "ew" i agree with MissRaw's comment about the series.
I stopped reading at chapter 9. This will definitely fit for somebody who loves role playing - spending hours imagining that the girl is you. I sucked it up when the guy saw the girl without glasses. She's actually, apparently, REALLY beautiful! More beautiful than her meanie friends. So the girl was hiding under those glasses she had on, gets bullied by her "friends" and developed a love interest with a popular [and typical] boy (the guy started to like her when she didn't have her glasses on, half naked in his room). Somehow, he convinces her to wear contacts (?) and so her beautiful and lovable self is revealed. The typical bishoujo persona, and typical shoujo heroine - what more can a teenage girl ask for?
If you're somebody who loves real lovable characters, understandable plot, good chemistry between the couples, mixture of realism and drama, this is not for you. Kare First Love does not deserve ratings above a 7 (7 is a VERY generous score).
What I find very negative about these shoujo mangas is that they pick on teenage girl's self-esteem. The mangaka HAS to have some self-esteem issues to write about beautiful heroines all the time - like she's trying to make a new world for herself.
WAIT A MINUTE! I'm about to LMFAO. So I skipped all the way to the ending... and man, this is cliche to a whole 'nother level!!
It started as a pretty good manga till they had to quarrel about XXX. but not bad. sometimes Karin can be a bit too girly.but otherwise is an okay manga.
at first i liked it, a guy spending money to a person he doesn't even know...its just so sweet, i thought...but came the part, about sex and when will they do it and where...i mean its just so frustrating and its has taken over half of the manga and theye rae constantly quarreling and fighting over it...its just so boring! i thought, i have to swallow this all in coz my cousin told me that its worth a read so i tried to swallow it, believe me it took such great effort just to take in one page full of their annoying, suck up not to mention immature fights...
but, oh well, everything has its ups and downs so...i will say that the artwork is nice there some unique moments and it has a great ending and everything fell into place,,,,
i will recommend this to people who likes to read really long romance mangas that is a bit cheesy and annoying at times...
Actually the art is pretty nice. but i absolutely don't like the main guy. at first i still like him. but until what volume i was so dissapointed and left this one hahaha. How come he push his girlfriend to do whatever he wants. I hate him. And in my opinion the main girl is so boring and too shy.
Very typical shoujo manga. Boring at times. But the worst of the lot is... *drum roll* ...There is absolutely no chemistry between the leads. This is a manga, not a movie... Who was talented enough to make a reader feel like that? The leads are as bland, and dare I say up to the level of a George Lucas romance. When you say Lucas' name with romance, you KNOW it is an insult.--- LOL I have to agree with you this manga was average, every one raves about it being a master piece but I really don't see it, a master piece is cowboy bebop or nana this this is just cliched predictable every thing will work out in the end manga. And it deludes young girls into thinking they don't really need confidence as a hot boy will come along take off your glasses and make you at once pretty pfft like ANY guy is going to come along and do that seriously! spend money on a girl he doesn't even know!? I think its good to see a relationship manga as there are so few but its a boring relationship and the leads are bland and cliched. Now I think if any one wants to read a nice funny and cute relationship manga kou kou debut is the way to go!
i LOVE this manga it was so cute, and if you like a transformation story, where a character was ugly in the beginning but beautiful at the end, this is great. i love the two main characters, and i liked the story between the two. i recommend it to anyone. its very sweet and cute.
Karin is so cool and funny, and she thinks like any girl would. she doesnt totally give in to her boyfriend, and i liked that alot not like all the other heroine, would become their boyfriend total pet. she soo lovable.
Kiriya-san is super funny, and is a typical boy. its so cute to see how much he changed and i was glad that he wasnt mean to karin.
the story totally focuses on only Kiriya and Karin, not their friends at all...but i still love them.
I sort of liked it at first, but later into the manga around maybe the 4th or 5th volume i was starting to get either bored or annoyed with how it was going.. The ending was nice though i guess. But if you're into Clichè stuff, you'll like this, but if you're looking for something a little more try something else. It had it's funny moments though.
