Can't believe it's done... This was one of those stories that get you so immersed into it, that you feel sad when it's finished. I wanted more, but at the same time the mangaka gave just enough. The ending was great. She made sure each character has a "closure".

I loved the fact that each character was relevant to the plot, and that they developed with the story. The main characters' internal struggles felt real.
I'm so glad I ended up reading this manga.

This manga was one of the best I ever read. The story is really deep and you can empathize with the characters. You can follow how they get stronger and get over hardships. Legend of Basara was really great and I shed the one or another tear, because it was so emotional.

What - in my opinion - was really not necessary was Ageha`s death. Really I cried almost half an hour. He was one of my favourite characters. No one was as cool as he!

No. I dont regret reading this. I regret putting this manga off for like three years and spent my time wasted on cliche boring shoujo mangas. I mean, I'm just on chapter 35 as of now and I cant wait to finish it, or rather, I dont want to finish it at all! I regret putting this on my wish list for ages because I was put off with the odd art (back then it was odd for me) and i thought the story was a bit dull and people just kept talking about it and I realized, for the first time, I found a shoujo manga actually worrth's just so awesome, the character's are great, the plot is good and ahh..the 'thing' about
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Sarasa and Shuri being lovers when they hate each other as Tatara and Red King. Gah, I just cant wait for the time when they both find out who each other are or, sometimes, I dont eevn want them to
so anyways, one of the best. It was ages since I'm doing a one long series marathon and i'm actually enjoying it. I love the realism, tragedy and the way fate plays with their lives. I've never been this excited over a classic manga for a long time, the last one being Versailles no Bara. I reccomend it to anyone who is tired of modern stupid heroines.
Edit: I just finished this (finally) and all I can say is, the ending was great! Yeah,

Shuri and Sarasa didnt die and everything was peaceful
but it could've been better if

they died together, well, you know like kind of romeoxjuliet.
but anw, each character had something going on and they resolve it at the end. Especially the prophecy for Ageha the 'One day you'll meet a woman worth dying for' and those were the words I couldn't forget, ever. Asagi's self discovery and Sarasa's growth. You just cant hate anyone, not even Ginko.

Just read the whole thing, but still can't figure out why so many are in love with this.
It's true that it was good, it was long and heroic. It wasn't very interesting though. I know this story's from 20th ct., but it was just like any other kids adventure book. There wasn't really anything that gave you the urge to keep on reading aside from boredom and full pockets of time to waste.
It's good that there is something you want to waste your time for, but it's not if you do that because there's nothing else to do.
In my opinion everything in this story was decent, just good enough.

I had this on my wish list for a while now and i kept hearing people talk about it so i though id give it a chance. IT WAS AMAZING!!! The art wasn't the best but it got better, and the plot was epic. It wasn't predictable like alot of other mangas i've read. The plot kept moving and wasn't entirely focused on the romance, but about the revolution.

I loved all the character but there were some i learned to love such as Asagi. What i liked best was the follow up stories about the other characters and even though there were about a million and two characters, Tamura sensei didn't forget about any of them. (I wished there was a follow up story about Chacha though....) In most shoujos the characters forget about the bad things that happened but the characters in Basara embraced what happened in the past and learned from it, I could see all the characters grow from begining to end. Sarasa is a crybaby but I think she deserves to be one because of all she did for her country and the people. She never give up. Even when crying she moved forward. This is my favourite shoujo manga. I strongly recommend everyone to read this.

I personally think that this manga is one of the best because, first and foremost, it was worth reading. Every chapter has different twists, and there's no chapter that left me bored. I was really moved when Shido died but it didn't made me cry, what really striked me the most was when Ageha died, because as the story from the beginning progressed I fell in-love with his character (I really cried you know!). Though he was just a supporting character, he left the biggest mark among all supporting character. The finale was the best, though I was kind of sad that Shuri's arm was cut<spoiler!>. It has the best ending ever!

This manga is so 'Epic' that I feel bad if I don't leave a review on how EPIC this manga is. The romance is nothing I've ever read before. It's the plot and the dynamics between the characters that make this manga stands out from the 'mainstream shoujo'.

An advice to first time readers who aren't familiar with Tamura Yumi's works, don't let the 'old school shoujo art' clouds your judgement and skip the first volume. I got the same impression when I first read this manga, thankfully, I kept on reading until the scene where...

..The Red King is actually Shuri, the guy that Sarasa met at the hotspring

Then I realized, things will get heated up since the whole plot revolves around the 'Enemies become Lovers' and 'Secret Identity' trope, it's amazing how Tamura sensei managed to keep things interesting for 27 volumes!

The ending is probably the most satisfying ending I've ever read..all the knots are tied, the mangaka even covered stories about the side characters. Amazing. *Applauds*

Thank you Tamura Yumi for creating such a masterpiece....actually, I can't thank you enough, your mangas have brought so much happiness to me!! *throws out random fangirl rant*yes! She is my manga idol! For those who enjoyed reading Basara, be sure not to miss reading her on-going manga 7 seeds. It's as Epic as Basara but, BETTER.

I've had Basara on my to read list for a long time, and finally got to read it these last few days. I just finished, and I've got chills up and down my arms because that was the sort of reading experience that I swear to you comes only a few times in a lifetime. I'd read some of Yumi Tamura's shorter works, but they do not fully showcase what a master storyteller she really is. There is so much here to offer a reader, whether you want a complex story, fully realized characters, or a unique world.

My life probably won't change after this. I won't be a better person for it. In a few days this "euphoric" feeling will fade. But right now, I feel pretty damn good to be alive.

I have read so many mangas and books but none of them quiet left an impression like Legend of Basara, by far one of the best shojo manga ever. And make no mistake, I rarely praise mangas especially shojos like I do with basara, this is a true definition of a gem of a manga. The reason why I hold this manga in such a high pedestal because it explored every human emotion and balanced every genre well enough to create the perfect world and story.

Where can I start, well let's see

Story: might sound cliched but make no mistake Basara was actually one of the leading mangas that paved this storyline for further generations to follow. I consider the story to be well executed because everything paced perfectly and made sense.

The main character is one of the most compelling female heroines that I personally came across while reading manga, she's unique, despite being strong, she has her weak side, you could tell she was indecisive and was insecure about her Sarasa persona. The rest of the cast fit well and helped the story develop and move on, they make the story. In fact, make no mistake this manga would be nothing without it's characters, the story did not shy away from introducing new characters that actually had a role in the story.

Overall I give this manga 10/10
